  1. Great show that seems to pass under a lot of folk's radar- The Americans. Season 4 starts next month, well worth catching up on if you've not seen it.
  2. It was a cracking ball, but how the hell could Hazelwood have known better than the third umpire that there was a slight inside edge?
  3. Indeed, I was watching a few overs of it last night. The Kiwi commentator was aghast. I think Hazelwood was mouthing 'who the f*** is the third umpire?' Worst I've seen for a long time.
  4. I love Test cricket, but you've got to be adapt to the times, Twenty20 is here to stay. What I would do is get rid of bilateral ODIs, just keep the ICC tournaments (World Cup and Champions trophy). Our own Twenty20 competition is a mess. Lancs are playing pretty much every week at Old Trafford throughout June and July- overkill. Apart from the Yorkshire game, the ground will be half full at best.
  5. Of course that is the crux of it all. This is a big job for Lambert, get this wrong and it will be a total re-build of his career. So he must have been told that funds would be given to him in the summer, why risk his reputation otherwise? If it is another summer like 2015 this time round, then 1) he will have been sold a pup and 2) with no more parachute payments, aiming to just stay competitive in the second tier will be our target in the future.
  6. Straight on to India for the Twenty20 World Cup for some of them. For the ones that also did the full tour of the UAE from early October, that's some schedule.
  7. Biggest problem is the sport's complete move behind the paywall. When I was a kid, I used to watch Test matches on TV throughout the summer holidays. Now, as the majority of kids don't have Sky, we've a lost generation. Think back to the 2005 Ashes team, they were household names, 9 million people watching on Channel 4. Now the Ashes gets around 900k watching. Rugby Union now has a much higher profile than cricket- why? because the big events are on free to air television year in year out. If Joe Root walked down the street, how many people would recognise him?
  8. Looked like the Valencia players were being controlled by a 10 year old on a Playstation...
  9. They were obviously hoping that Hales could do the David Warner tee off opener role, however he just doesn't seem to have what it takes.
  10. For me, he should without doubt be a shoe in for the World T20 coming up, however Strauss hates the bloke, so that's that.
  11. Interesting series that. Compton started in Durban in his usual style and helped win the game, seemed to lose his way after- constant sniping at his style knocked his confidence? Still not sure about Taylor and well, Alex Hales is no Test opener. So thats 2, 3 and 5 of the batting order in doubt. Definitely a work in progress this team.
  12. When Broad has one of his mega spells like that, Test cricket takes some beating, exhilarating stuff.
  13. Damage was done day 3 with all the drops. Very patient double ton from Amla too.
  14. Day 1 definitely, I was thinking that it was a results wicket, however it seemed to become easy paced as the game went on. I suppose it just didn't disentegrate as you would hope, and as there was no swing or seam, ended up as a draw. Though we did drop plenty of catches- ie AB on 8.
  15. Usually a bit more bounce at Jo'Burg, so here's hoping it isn't another 600 plays 600. Amla just isn't a captain, which I think even he knows.
  16. Only England could hit 600+ declared and then be hanging on
  17. Years of pro Kean propaganda from the media hasn't done the man much good, still hasn't been linked to an English job since the day he finally fecked off. Just goes to show how tainted he is within the game.
  18. I found the post match scenes really illuminating. Souness was obviously a tough task master, no cosy relationships with the players there, yet he ensured that the lads were given the plaudits they deserved, i.e. insisting that Hughes went up with himself and Tony Parkes. I can imagine working for Souey was intense and perhaps why things began to quickly unravel in the last 12 months.
  19. Three years on from the last beating in the UAE and we still can't bat against spin... and these days we can't bowl it either.
  20. Could be a match winning inninngs that. Really tidy player, think Bell's days may be numbered...
  21. Went last night, classic Bond really. No pis$ing about- fast cars, women, gadgets. Nice nod to the back catalogue with the SPECTRE organisation. Daniel Craig is really in his element now, ridiculously OTT at times, but he does it all with a knowing smirk.
  22. Really enjoyed The Martian. Thought Matt Damon's performance was excellent, kept you captivated though on his own for long periods. Sean Bean makes me laugh. He's Sheffield's answer to Sean Connery.
  23. Seems odd that they'd ignore Rovers, the fact that in his first job he almost pulled off back to back promotions on a shoestring would surely be a great addition to any eulogy.
  24. The pitch in Dubai usually offers more than this one, not been many draws there. We can't have three Tests like this, terrible advert for the game.
  25. Anyway my point being that this website isn't as out of kilter with the wider fanbase as some try to make out...
