  1. We are now just one of only 11 league clubs not to have played at the new Wembley.
  2. Shame he’s been signed up till 2021 on no doubt good money.
  3. Did I imagine it or did he duck when the ball was crossed towards him in the 6 yard box?
  4. Good job we beat Wigan or I think we’d be getting a little edgy with Derby and Forest as our next two games...
  5. Yes £10 million is a lot of money for non parachute clubs in this league.
  6. What was the reasoning for splitting them up when they made a big deal about the upper tier, no booze on sale, using Strikers lounge etc?
  7. Looking at the club photos, doesn’t like like there were close to 2,500 in the upper tier.
  8. All clubs should (and I think do) have a historian. If we somehow don’t, there are plenty of folk like parson and our former fellow forumite jimwilkz that I imagine would be happy to help out with such matters.
  9. Personally don’t think he’s a wide man, looked most effective in central areas. He does seem to flatter to deceive, but give him a run of games.
  10. I’ve not actually asked for him to be sacked or voted on this thread because I know he won’t be. I’ve certainly not given any thought to a replacement. What’s the point? So I’m just hoping he somehow turns it around, the evidence though looks like that is beyond him.
  11. Exactly, so a football manager fits that category.
  12. Who the feck will want to ‘prise Smallwood or Williams away?’
  13. Football manager qualities though, aren’t they?
  14. Part of being a football manager is contingency planning - we didn’t do it with the defence and we’ve paid the price. Thank feck Graham didn’t break his leg on the 1st Feb, because that would’ve been another example.
  15. What’s changed? I would say a load of League 1 players playing relentlessly at the top of their game can no longer reach those levels - as to be expected. Ergo the transfer window was a big missed opportunity. It was becoming apparent from around Preston and Wigan away right through to New Year’s Day. The January results papered over some very large cracks and the manager buried his head in the sand(paper).
  16. End of the day he will be here next season. But you’ve been around the block long enough to spot the flashing warning signs - yesterday was surely one of those?
  17. Fine. Every choice you make in life is then a guess. You use evidence and experience to help you formulate these guesses/choices. Mowbray has guessed wrong, repeatedly. And he’s the ‘football man’. Says a lot about his judgement and if we should expect things to improve.
  18. I was guessing that just buying young players would be problematic I was just guessing that most promoted League 1 teams drop off in the second half of the season. I was just guessing that letting go of one of our only recognised centre halves in the middle of an injury crisis would turn out badly. Modern day Nostradamus me.
  19. Yeah why couldn’t he. It obviously is the owners view that we should bring in young, English players for future profits. But he’s signed up to it. Im not sure why me (and plenty of others) getting things right and Mowbray getting it wrong has anything to do with ‘Fifa’, the only ‘ultimate team’ is in TM’s head.
  20. I imagine Rodwell is in the same boat as Reed, TM has probably heard from him or his ‘people’ that he won’t be here next season.
  21. No egg on my face. I said BB was an odd signing then and nothing so far has changed my view on that debacle. I said repeatedly that largely concentrating transfer policy on bringing in young, English players was a fools errand. You must also bring in experienced heads. I also said that many promoted sides have good starts and then run out of steam - perfect for January signings. So the season has turned out how I imagined - though this run is certainly worse than anything I envisaged.
  22. Just shows the lunacy in signing up Smallwood, Evans, Bennett et al on lucrative new deals. No chance they’d be snapped up by anyone else, so surely you see how the season in the higher league pans out? If they are up to it, you start to hand out the new deals around now. If not, thanks for your efforts, but we won’t be needing you next season, freeing up valuable space in the squad for upgrades. Now in the summer, we are going to have a squad full of contracted, well paid, league 1 footballers, seriously restricting our room for manoeuvre. Jobs for the boys mentality that will do is serious harm.
  23. This ‘hindsight’ thing again. It was said on ‘negative brfcs’ repeatedly that the summer spending had the wrong priorities. Again in January it was repeatedly pointed out that the squad, especially at the back, needed strengthening. The fact Mowbray took a different path was down to his own rank bad management, hindsight doesn’t come into it.
  24. The more telling thing I got from his tweets were how ‘loyal’ the owners are. Put that together with his relationship with Waggott and I doubt his position is under much threat.
  25. Rothwell doesn’t do enough defensively, apparently, to help the full back when played wide. Bennett certainly does, as his ‘engine’ for getting up and down the flank is probably his best (only?) quality. Rothwell likes to roam the pitch and play ‘between the lines’. So, who does he play as number 10 and who does he play wide?
