  1. There's nothing here I disagree with - and my main criticism of the Conservatives (at least in the UK) is that are a factional party interested only in looking after their own . They talk about values of family and nation but don't make any serious attempt at imposing them . As an aside , one thing I always notice is that the immigrant parents of lads like Jessie James (not Jackson as I wrote earlier !) , Stephen Lawrence and the Walker lad in Manchester all seem to have strong values - Christian values that they brought with them from their homelands . It appears , though , that these virtues get lost PDQ somewhere along the line within a generation or two. Christianity and the traditional family structure have been deemed a little old fashioned for the liberal elite for a few decades or so . Could be a con-incidence I suppose..... No ; it was abolished quite some time ago
  2. About the best I've seen , better than Shearer , but even Carsley missed one for us if I remember correctly . No silly side foots with Carsley .
  3. Not racist but a rather daft generalisation . This gentleman is a product of a society that has long ago lost any real values . He's probably had no real discipline in his life , no doubt the product of a broken home and the victim of an education system that has left people like him what I call "spiritually impoverished" . There are hundreds of thousands like him , black gang members , white trailor trash , call them what you like - their colour is irrelevant . They have all been betrayed by politicians who have followed extreme liberal policies for generations and have not the guts to admit that they were wrong all the way down the line . A disciplined education followed by a years national service and the gentleman in Krakow would not have felt the need to engage in an unusual form of window shopping - I'm sure of that . At this moment I am watching the news coverage of the funeral of Jessie Jackson . He was betrayed as well . Another sad example of our education system ....
  4. I haven't got a clue who we're playing but I predict a bad attendance . There'll be no more Cat A and A+ and B- etc , etc nonsense after this season . Mark my words
  5. Well it seems nothing is to be done about these pests despite overwhelming evidence that they are just not wanted . BRISA , if they still exist , don't seem to be interested .....A pity , because the games coming up would have been ideal for a trial period to prove that they are a waste of space . Personally I just don't know how those in the Blackburn End can tolerate them ; I'd prefer not to go if I had a free ticket for the BE .
  6. Yes we will . It's inevitable - unless the powers that be are prepared to see sub 15,000 gates and maybe even sinking down toward the 10,000 level in the next few seasons or so . The board have started to see sense now , it seems , but if you think they can go back to charging £34 I'll tell you they can't . It'll get to the stage ,for a variety of reasons we've all discussed before, when many of the prem clubs have to follow suit . Sky can't afford a situation where clubs play in front of empty grounds - bad for business if the game goes on a downward spiral of higher prices leading to lower crowds leading to higher prices to compensate for lost revenue .....etc
  7. A draw was a fair result - a game of two halves . Well refereed I thought . He could have made a name for himself by booking every daft challenge but used his common sense . Riise should be brought before the authorities for his blatent dive which earned Neill (I think) a booking but the ref got it right for the two penalty appeals . Maybe Nonda should have done something with the ball instead of trying to con the ref in our case...
  8. Very aggressive , Col ! The wife not let you in bed again ..
  9. Makes me wonder why you're posting on this thread then .... Money has little to do with it with the players if you're comparing their attitudes toward club and country . I'd suggest , if anything , the players are more likely to stroll around when playing for their club than their country . Ferdy , Terry , Cole , Neville playing for England put in just as much effort as Neill , Todd and our players for the "town" . Maybe players representing England just smacks too much of patriotism for youyr liking , Col
  10. You can kick a ball 24 hours a day , Theno , but the formulative years are the most important , from the age of 8 til 15 or so - the same in any sport whether it be snooker , tennis or whatever . I remember when I was at school . It was a bit of running etc and then straight onto a game where you'd be lucky if you had the ball at your feet for more than a few seconds in the entire game .( Luckily some are born skillful but others aren't so lucky... ) I suspect that life in the schools hasn't changed much . When you combine that with the fact that kids don't play on the streets much nowadays , then there's a problem . Tactics and application etc are icing on the cake of skill .
  11. I was about to bring this up , but you beat me to it ! Can anyone imagine a Shankley or a Clough or even a Martin O'Neil having anything to do with a Public Relations bloke like Clifford ? It just appears that McClaren is anticipating the inevitable and making plans already ....still in the honeymoon period ! On a similar note Martin O'Neill is on record as saying that his interview with the FA was the main reason he didn't get the job . Presumbly his football knowledge was irrlevant compared to interview technique . To those who maintain we are just an average team , all I can say is a top notch manager like Wenger , Ferguson or O'Neil simply would not send teams out as tactically and motivationally ill prepared as that we have seen produced by McClaren . And it's not just been the last two games either ..the rest were no great shakes .
  12. There's only one thing worse than a bloke with a tattoo ....and that's a woman with a tattoo
  13. That has been England's main problem for as long as I can remember . Why they can't play the English fast , pass and move way is beyond me . McClaren is not the man to motivate the players ; nor does there seem anyone on the pitch who can either . What is needed is a Roy Keane type midfielder to up the tempo and break up the possession of the opponents - if Savage were English I'd shove him in .
  14. Why do you come on here , Jan ? You must realise we're a predominantly English lot ..
  15. They are very likely to follow Rovers' lead .......just not yet .
  16. It was a let down . Even Daniel Day Lewis couldn't save that one
  17. It's about time Scorses came up with something decent - it's been too long for a man of his talents . That is , if your review is correct , Matt
  18. LOL . I think this deserves an answer Abbey .....
  19. Rovers v Wigan ; junior tickets £13 . This will deter many adults from bringing their kids . Just too much for a family afternoon out . Attendance by Rovers fans down by a few thousand on Sunday without a doubt . The lesson of cheap tickets for kids at all games has still to be learnt . PS - Am I the only one who suspects that the crowd was bigger than 19,000 ?
  20. Some of us said that at the time and received a load of abuse from your good self ! Wasn't it £10m you reckoned JW was going to get for us...
  21. I'm sure the fans around you who had to endure this hysterical onslaught were glad you only noticed him five minutes from the end ...
  22. I don't believe that would be so - especially as the Rovers have the trust money to keep us punching above our weight - in a league without the Sky money it would be worth more . For every fan that is now feeling , like Paul , that the fans are just suckers to be screwed for their money by the suits and players , ther is a genuine fan who would return under the right conditions . The right conditions , for me , are the removal of Arsenal , Chelsea , Man Utd , Liverpool from the prem league into a Euro league . Let them take their high salaries , Sky and the dodgy agents with them . At the risk of sounding like a "loser" let them take any potential conglomerate businesses like Lancashire Utd with them . Just leave us with the traditions and rivalries of real FOOTBALL clubs ; there's plenty of them out there who'd be ready and willing to play in a new league where they might , just might have a chance of winning something . Get rid of the big stars , the big egos and keep players' salaries at a reasonable level and interest would go . The only trouble is that the Euro league would inevitably fail because the inter club rivalries are just not there - there's no tradition to build on . That's the reason why Gordon's plan is doomed from the start did not Confuscius say "...never build on sand " ? Be imaginative , Paul - you could do both . Get BRISA to suggest a cycling track round the ground....
