Aha but we have a young squad ? Improve the first 18 with 2-3 quality signings a seson! Personally I'd be filling out the lower end of the squad with players moved up from the under 23s rather than the Caddis and Gladwins of this world.
-
But that's still 6 or 7 squad fillers needed if we let them go, from what is not a large squad to begin with. We need to be replacing 2-3 a year not 7 to 10 each year.
-
Where does it say anything about being disappointed regardless who we sign? You sign players -better than the ones we have. Next window, you evaluate the squad, move on underperforming/weaker players and replace with better. No?
-
Not really. Maybe, just maybe, it's not about point scoring. If you want to progress at anything, you have to constantly evaluate, find weak areas, resolve them and improve. Constant wash, rinse, repeat. Every one on here bleeds blue and white, some of us just look at things from a different angle - yet sing our hearts out for the boys on a Sat. This positive/negative bollocks really gets in my wick. From his comments and evaluation of our season start (which lots have been saying is great) you would have TM as a negative poster on here.

You could argue about the playing well part. We have fought hard every game and probably played better away from Ewood as we prefer to counter attack. At home we were very lucky first half v Millwall, 2 down after the first half against Reading and offered little attacking threat against Brentford. We are lacking that bit of extra quality to dominate at this level rather than compete. That may be sorted this window or take a couple more (if the money is there). That said, I think the next year or two could be very interesting and for the first time in a long while...I am looking forward to the next time we take on our 6 fingered friends ...

We've got a better keeper. Maguire though...

I'm struggling to include Rodwell in any calculation 12 month deal is akin to a season loan. He is 'training with the first team' to see how he does. Quite possible the guy won't play a game for us - or might rediscover his passion for the game. Taken from the LT when Rodwell was announced TM said. “I would hope there’s going to be some bigger deals to be done at the football club than a couple of free agents coming in to the club.” Rothwell looks like a first team player. Davenport is hard to assess due to injury. Looks lightweight, maybe one for the long term - especially given Rothwell's start. Palmer- looks a talent - first teamer but loan, no option - could we potentially afford this guy in light of the budget? Armstrong. First team and permanent. Don't get me wrong, pleased with what we have so far...But, if the money is there as TM has said, it is better being spent as there are no guarantees with Venkys that it will ever be there again. Something TM alluded to in today's LT. “You can have regrets and if you’re sitting there and don’t spend it and don’t get the players you want then it’s easy for managers to moan about money, not having the players, other teams being too strong, but if we can spend the money then let’s spend on some good players, young, athletic, fast footballers and see where it takes us.” This is a pivotal season for us. We are a bit of squad depth away from being serious dark horses for the play offs which would be a great turn around for the club. We have a very committed squad, that just lacks a stronger bench with some quality on it. We aren't far away at all. Nobody is knocking TM or the players signed. Just don't want to see a golden opportunity not seen through. We want to be in a position where next year, if we are still in the champ, we only need to bring in 2 or 3 players to push on.

I'm as skeptical as you but the other day I'm sure LT were reporting a couple of attacking players. Reed can't be classed as that. Maybe, see someone off the radar coming in permanently with Brereton. Otherwise we are short of the permanent players. I don't think Rodwell counts in that quota.

Should have offered the top tier of BBE to the Darwen Enders. Guaranteed to sit together etc. Same principal as before. -
Promising certainly. Let's see how he does over a full season before we start calling him a great player!

You are also relying on Venkys to let us invest the money back in the team. Not happened at any stage so far!

I think we will get this season. Depending on where we finish may dictate. If its lower end, think he'll be off. If we are around the play offs, we may get another season. Also have to factor in Venkys being stubborn sellers - with players they like (Rhodes). -

Not in this market and we wouldn't be stupid enough to put a £10 mil release in his new contract. Would we... -

By Alan Dixon long lost brother of Alan Nixon. £10 mill. I think not. -
Lots of sided are unlucky with injuries. That's why you need a strong squad. At this stage of the season we should not have an under 23 striker starting games and Caddis/Hart on the bench. As I posted before, we've got away with it this last week - which is great. Get the bodies in next week and we can really have a good go this year.
-
Factual but a fair reflection of the game? I think we have ridden our luck this last week. But fair play, if the squad is filled out next week, then it's all good.

ROVERS v Brentford

Agree with that. For some reason the pitch has been slow and looked almost boggy. Nowhere near as good as we've had in the past. Against Liverpool in particular the ball didn't travel. -
But we've needed more since the end of last season. Got out of jail today. Let's hope we full our boots next week and really kick on.

What a team of grafters we have. A surprising and welcome 3pts. Gritty performance. If we can add some quality up top, we could be the surprise package. -
We won 1-0 but have Raya to thank. How many times did we threaten their keeper? We have a team of grafters who never stop running...but we desperately need more quality in the top half. Open league this year. Get 2-3 quality players in, then who knows.

Graham surely must be able to play this next 45. Only chance of getting something. Otherwise think we will end up losing 1 -0 -

We have plenty of effort but technically we look a league one team. Brentford nothing special. There is nothing to fear in this league. Just need some quality. -
