[Archived] Lucas Neill
adopted scouser replied to juggalo_rover's topic in Football Messageboard Archive
Just been taking the ###### out of reds fans, and the inability of their team to beat us today, and got an interesting text from Ian who works at the passport office in town. Had a chat with Lucas who admitted that on transfer deadline day he waited all day for the phone to ring from Liverpool. -

Aye, I listen to the Peel sessions all the time in the car. It's hard to display the attitude he's famous for when at best he's incoherent. Most of the band seen there have all buggered off because of the way he is, his missus though on keyboards is delicious. I'd eat chips out of her knickers. -

The Fall still doing it for me, and as a reasonably intelligent bloke the frustration grows as I can't understand why I like it. -
Agreed Matt, got the Aviator soundtrack in the car. I haven't seen the Departed yet, but by all acounts it's a refreshing blast away from all the dross that's out at the moment. Took the girls to see 'Devil Wears Prada' yesterday, they're getting too old for 'Hoodwinked', it was OK I suppose. Oh well, nearly Nov 17th - Bond and Dec 1st - Flushed Away. If you're thinking of watching Flushed Away on the opening weekend It might be a good idea to start booking now !

Was it a re-run of the 'frightening world' etc that BBC four showed a while back ? Cracking stuff, got it on DVD. Elena Poulou ....................

[Archived] The Old Gate Debate
adopted scouser replied to Gav's topic in Football Messageboard Archive
It's a shame finding a negative element following our fantastic result last night, but why are we getting so excited about the gate ? As it said in the sports section of this morning's telegraph, the club did everything short of John Williams telephoning each fan individually, and offering to play in their back garden. -

Hit him with his own handbag more like. Poof. -
Marvellous - nearly had you measured up for a cardie there
-
It's because they can't believe it. Blue supporter mates of mine were astounded they could take upwards of 5000 away from home and the gate was only 22K. What are you apologising for... must be going soft. As for that LU theory Gord, it's the old 'shared ground on Merseyside' debate. It makes all the financial sense in the world but it will NEVER happen.

Used to love listening to Mike Dickin at 10 every weekday, now my 3 hour drive south on a Monday is covered by John Gaunt. Not bad, but the insistence that callers refer to hims as 'Gaunty' makes you itch after a bit. -

If he really is in Australia, there's every need for a gap. -
Just watched 'The Queen', a marvellous film, Helen Mirren's performance is incredible.

It's only a football chant FFS, get a grip. "Build a bonfire, build a bonfire, put put some scousers on the top" (regularly at Man U) - then in the next breath "Rooney - Rooney - Rooney". Supporters want to taunt, goad and threaten all from the relative safety of a segregated crowd I might add, leave it be. -

A mate in Stockport bet me last season that city would finish above rovers, thanks to Mister Bellamy he owes me £50. Two weeks ago he offered double or quits. Looking at the way we've started I was going to take the money, now I'm not so sure ... -

Away kit or not I still can't understand why we aren't playing in blue and white. Both teams in red and white a tad confusing ? -

Mediocre games that continue to be more expensive. Vastly wealthy teams occupying the same league as teams with limited funds and an even more limited fanbase. Got a freebie at Old Trafford last week, and if you take away the grub. booze, free programme, free admission, Frank Stapleton going table to table and Dennis Irwin holding the door open for you - it was at best a mediocre game. As a neutral I enjoyed the day out, but it felt like a cake you used to look forward to as a kid suddenly had fifty odd toppings on it, so much so you couldn't find the cake anymore. Man United, Blackburn - whatever. For me footie is wall to wall, saturated in cash and as a result a lot of the magic has disappeared. I can still remember sitting in the riverside with a flask of bovril, laughing with my mate at the fan with the bald head who had the players sign it as he ran round the pitch, Howard Kendall era I think. Where they used to open the doors between the enclosure and the Darwen end twenty minutes before the end of the game, as kids we could sneak in and watch the end for nowt. Or through the turnstile at the Blackburn End, up the concrete terrace past the red railings to see the pitch in front of you and people getting ready for the game. On a course in Burnley yesterday listening to a mate who had watched the clarets come from two nil down against Barnsley, to win four nil. He paid about fifteen quid to get in, spent the rest of the night down the pub, and was making plans to get to Stoke on Saturday. Shocking I know .... but felt slightly envious.
