  1. My bum-on-my-seat for a kick-off (I attended the Bournemouth game because I thought a tenner was reasonable) It isn't about small town mentalities and it isn't just Rovers fans who are saying no to expensive football matches. The fact is that football fans in general have had enough of being ripped off - I know I have. I have missed very few games at Ewood by choice but I will choose to miss this one.
  2. Absolutely no way I will pay £19. If we struggled to sell seats for £10 for the cup game against Bournemouth how on earth do the club think we will sell them at these prices. There were alot of empty seats in cup games around the country yesterday - it is time for clubs to get wise.
  3. Couldn't agree more. Among the few good things left in the modern game of football are the split second joy of scoring a goal, the flow of the game and the controversy. I fear the use of technology (which won't stop at goal line cameras) will erode some of that. I don't like the thought of a giant screen (as in Rugby) telling me whether or not we have scored, or having to have constant reviewing of decisions. As much as we get frustrated by bad decisions, deep down we all get pleasure from moaning about them. Take away the human element and you take away alot of the pleasure.
  4. Disappointing to lose so late yesterday but a win against Charlton will make up for it. My main worry when Souness left was that we were so bad that the transfer window would come too late for us. Now we have a bit of optimism for the new year!
  5. I thought that too. Perhaps the flu is an epidemic in Horwich!
  6. Winning away at WW - best Christmas present of the lot! Every player was up for the cause today. Slowly but surely the confidence is growing and we are now a million miles away from the pushovers that we were three months ago. Our defending was very good from front to back, but special mention should go to Nissa and Todd who were excellent in dealing with anything that they could throw at us. There wasn't a great deal of fluent football but we were by far the better team. Come on you blues!!
  7. I agree with that comment. I think some people do not realise just how bad we were when Souness left. Yes we are drawing alot of games and ideally we could have done with turning one or two of them into wins. But we are now going into games with a chance and are disappointed when we don't win. That to me is a dramatic improvement from a couple of months ago when losing was expected. We are still far from a good team but we are a damn sight closer than we were.
  8. Graeme Souness does not deserve to be booed by Rovers fans on Boxing Day. Yes he has played his part in losing one or two of our better players Yes he left us in a bit of a shambles on the pitch But he did give us: - an unforgettable promotion season - the League Cup - sixth place and qualification for Europe When he took over we were a million miles away from that. Just be thankful that he went at the right time. I am not suggesting that he should be given a rapturous welcome but he also should not be booed. Perhaps silence will speak volumes.
  9. Granted that Flitcroft has limitations, but I wouldn't have thought that standing around doing bugger all is something he could be accused of.
  10. Defensive improvement is an absolute priority which makes a midfield player and a commanding central defender a must buy. Our problems in the last season and a half have stemmed from our inability to stop conceding. Although we don't have a 20-goal a season striker we have shown in recent games that there are a few goals in this team.
  11. When was that then? Most times he's played in central defence actually. I am still struggling with that.
  12. Very good comment. I was surprised by the substitution because Tugay was by far our best performer across the midfield yesterday. He was the only one likely to open up the opposition. It seems he has become something of a fall guy. I wasn't against bringing on Thompson but why not take off the very ineffective Ferguson (whose number of poor games far outweighs his good ones). Why not stick Thommo on the right to replace Reid? Also have to agree with Revidge regarding the comments about Dickov. Whilst his work rate and endeavour have been top class this season, I feel we will need something more in terms of quality if we are to stay out of the relegation places. On the plus side we have only conceded one goal in the last two games and is something to build on. I know it is stating the obvious but the quality of our January signings will be the difference between staying up and going down.
  13. Absolutely spot on mate. Except I would go further than that and describe it as totally and utterly embarrassing. It is more of a hinderance to the atmosphere than a help.
  14. I don't know him but I remember seeing him on the concourse at half-time yesterday because he stood out with the Roma scarf on - and because he looked totally plastered as he staggered in front of me!
  15. He was undeniably a great servant to Rovers and his departure was handled badly. That being said it was time for TP (who has made an excellent living out of BRFC) to move on, so FFS Rovers fans stop the amatuer dramatics, get over it and move on.
  16. I think we have to look at the positives. Three games unbeaten, including two away from home, is a drastic improvement. The fact is that we were in a very bad way when Souness left us and it was never going to be an overnight transformation. It is all about picking up as many points as possible between now and the transfer window, and then hopefully the manager can bring in one or two players of his own to bolster the squad. All is far from lost and a win or two is just around the corner - keep the faith!!
  17. Undoubtedly Tony Parkes has been a great servant to this club and deserves all the praise and thanks that he receives. However I can't help but feel that this is the right decision at the right time, and shows that our new manager is looking to the future and is not afraid to make difficult decisions. I know that we have brought a few players through the youth system but it has long been a concern of mine (since Souness came really) that there is a lack of continuity between the Academy and senior set up. The fact that steps are being taken to rectify this can only be good for the future of the club. Thanks TP.
  18. Scored a few goals in the 80-81 season including the winner at Burnden Park - that makes him a legend to me!!
  19. That is the most ridiculous thing I have ever read in my entire life.
  20. And no doubt at the players request.
  21. Sorry, what I meant was, although he did play himself into trouble in his own half, which is worse than if he was in the oppositions, it was early in the first half, if I remember correctly, when the whole team was edgy and he did it rarely. Just give it up mate - he was bad.
  22. My first thought was a 4-5-1 formation similar to the way Wales are set up. I think Hughesy has so far given the team chance to prove itself by not rocking the boat too much, but I think that will change pretty soon and we will see more of his influence on the team.
