Damn straight we need another one.
-
Lenihan is part of the spine of the team, with Travis, Dack, Graham. We need a new goalie and long-term striker (if Gally won't kick on)
-
Awesome result. Mowbray got it bang on with his team selection and subs.
-
Was it compulsory?
-
-
Why change the formation when it looked like we were onto a winning formula? Nasty feeling it will be Bennett for Nyambe, Armstrong for Graham, and Gally on the wing.
-
Did people honestly expect the penny to drop after the other night? Mowbray's far too entrenched to reform his "philosophy". Plus he needs an excuse to get Benno back in the first XI.
-
That does sound like something Mogga would do but I find it more plausible that we needed him out to bring in Cunningham (like DE said) or a contractual issue.
-
If Mulgrew didn't feature in Mowbray's plans, why start him against Charlton? Mulgrew said the move was a shock, so he obviously didn't get the memo.
-
Agreed. We need a style of football that plays to our strengths, where everyone knows their role and sticks to it. It won't be suited for every team we play, and we may get overturned by the more direct, physical sides but that's football. We'll win more games than if we choose to keep chopping and changing.
-
Based on what?
-
And what if Wigan hadn't come calling? Mowbray was prepared to weaken the team for the sake of dressing room harmony?
-
Too right, Stu. Millions of pounds pissed away on rotten managers, rotten signings, NDAs and the rest. When all they had to do was let the current setup carry on. All too avoidable.

If Graham's not up to it, then it has to be Gallagher up top. What's the sense playing him and Arma in the wrong positions? -

Good point. Probably why the partnership with Holtby hasn't panned out. I actually think he'll keep the same back-line (injuries permitting) but it won't be long before Bennett's back in the fold. -

Agreed. Don't see what BB is going to achieve rotting in the U23s or getting the odd 10mins. -
To be fair, Brereton was brought on for the last eight minutes and wouldn't have seen a lot of the ball. Difficult for him to impose himself.

I know it's preaching to the choir but it can't be overstated enough that we need continuity and stability in the starting XI. Play your best players in their best positions, play to your strengths, it's not exactly rocket science. -
Fans said Downing could do a job at left-back. Fans said Armstrong is never a centre-forward. Fans said Nyambe is a better RB than Bennett. Fans said Rothwell deserves to start more games. Fans said Graham is our best striker at the club. Why is the manager only cottoning on to what the average joe has been saying for months?

Hayley gets my vote but they're all a step-up from Walton. -

With any luck, Evans put himself in the shop window last night. He's had his standout game of the season, which usually precedes the calls for us to keep hold of him. Groundhog BRFCS ? -
Expecting the stubborn old mule to abandon his ways is naive. We're a midtable team with a midtable manager. A few bad results and we're drawn into a relegation scrap but we've enough quality to get back to that midtable cushion. Lose players like Dack or Rothwell and it's a different story. He hasn't lost the dressing room. Is that because the players believe in him or because of the holiday camp setup? Things were cushy under Bowyer, who shared Mowbray's knack of pulling results out the bag but couldn't make the most of the talent at his disposal.

Enjoy it for what it is but let's not get carried away with a win at home to Brentford. Much improved team selection and performance levels. Will it be a watershed moment for Mowbray? Probably not. We've been here before. Too many false dawns.
