  1. But the interpretation given at the time was, although he moved to go for the ball, as he did not make contact, he was not offside. At the time the decision seemed very frustrating but this explanation was given to rationalise it.
  2. The point that was made last season was that because Cisse did not actually make contact, although he started off to make contact, meant he was not offside.
  3. He might turn out to be an excellent signing, but the chances he got in the first half, along with his other misses in the 2nd half, coupled with his inability to control the ball when it is knocked into him with his back to the goal, mean whereas lots of people are raving about him, I'm in the minority camp.
  4. I obviously think it's a good idea! Until the details of the card came through the post, I had only really known about the £20 membership, which also makes sense, but the "card" is something many people could publicise.
  5. And yet we made quite a number of chances-Benni should certainly have scored 2-I can't remember if he missed 2 or 3 glaring chances in the first half. Wigan created very little in the first half and only really came to life after their substitutions.
  6. The person on Eurosport UK said they have made a very good start to the season and they're a good team.
  7. That is what we did to get to a wedding. Irrelevant now.
  8. According to teletext the Daily Mail are linking Bowen with the job.
  9. The rule certainly used to be that as long as you played the ball backwards, rather than forwards, the other player would not be offside despite there being no player of the other side between the attacking player and the goals.
  10. I'm sure there will be refence to the "card" elsewhere on here but I have been unable to find it. Anyway, I got a letter recently about it. Every time you buy a Home League ticket, you get a "proof of purchase" sticker. Reward A with a minimum of 3 stickers-£10 off any game. Reward B with a minimum of 5 stickers-£20 off any game. Reward C with a minimum of 7 stickers-free ticket to any game. I have spoken to 2 people about the scheme today. "A", who is a young man who works Saturdays and would not buy a season ticket, went on Thursday and will go to a number of games during the season. He didn't know about the card, but was really quite interested in it as an idea and will look to use it. "B" is an old codger like me. He lives outside the area and can have problems coming to week end matches because of his business. He often comes with one of his sons. Again, the Reward is of interest, especially to his son. It will be interesting to see if the "Card" does catch on. What I like about it is it can get people into the habit of going to Ewood.
  11. Yes, it was on teletext today. It sounded as though it would depend on his Indian summer continuing.
  12. He has done really well this season and should be delighted with his performances. Now come the 2 buts.... He has to be careful with playing the other side onside, as he did against City-really early on he did that again last night. Late on he showed why he is more dangerous as a full back-when he can run into space and is not as closely marked as when he is playing in midfield-when he struggled to get over a couple of crosses. Apart from these things, he has done really well.
  13. It struck me walking away from the ground that there were more younger supporters than usual. If I am right, they are unlikely all to be at the cat A game against Wigan. However, if they can get the prices right for Europe, hopefully they'll be back for them.
  14. I think he was one of the names first linked with the job, but I haven't seen any reference since.
  15. It was on teletext yeaterday; today reading are down playing it.
  16. He was also encouraging fans to go to the match. He said the tickets were priced low to try and get people to the ground. He wants to see how this works as he seemed to be agreeing that people fall out of the habit of going to matches, but also said they might have to look at the success of this type of ticketing policy over a number of matches, whilst at the same time giving priority to season ticket holders.
  17. I think Jeffers will have a chance, but he is going to have to be a lot more determined than he has been up to now.
  18. On the evidence so far for the Rovers, he has made a promising start-he looked good against City, seemed to have a predator's instinct and apparently did well on Saturday. I didn't seem him in his early days, but I did see Shearer when he first came to us. After the crude foul on Boxing Day by Leeds, he never recaptured his full speed but he still had a decent career. If Nonda can continue in the same vein- and indeed improve- he could turn out to be a decent signing, especially if the fee has already been agreed. The other thing that pleases me about Nonda's start is that we now have 3 potentially good strikers. It also means Jeffers can be the 4th striker, giving him the chance to prove himself but not having him overly high in the hierarchy of strikers.
  19. Sorry Terry but......................Jansen happy without a contract. Although he is currently training with Bolton he has no intention of pushing himself into contention for a new deal. His father-in-law and representative Barry Corner said, " There have been lots of inquiries but he does not want a contract right now. He is keeping his options open-and Bolton are one of the options. Matt has tried and tried over the course of the last three or four years and I think there has maybe been more expected from him than he has been able to give in the circumstances. He is deliberately staying out of a contract-so he can get progress at his own pace." ( LT ).
  20. And Cotterill or Kilby said you might be top after Saturday.
  21. What a star! His redeeming feature was that in his first season with us, he helped us avoid going into the 4th Division.
  22. Yes, you're right, but I was particularly relating to the time over the last 15 years or so. I knew very keen fans who went till they were 16 and could no longer afford when they were 17 and were students.
  23. I think MH has said on Radio Lancs Reid is unlikely to be fit.
  24. Before the young adult season tickets were introduced, the 17 year olds went on to full season tickets and most people could not afford that, so there are likely to be more 17-21 year olds than before.
