Somehow I don’t think it will be Mowbray. Unless he’s been told that there is an expectation of top 6 after all the recent investment. Even though I think they are clueless they can’t be happy with funding 15th placed finishes every season. This young side is screaming out for a manager with some faith in them. A new Souness - although I’ve no idea who that is. Otherwise Hughes would be my preference.

Chicken and egg. Players need a run of games. Armstrong has had a very generous run and has proven he doesn’t offer enough. He should be given a stint on the bench and Rothwell given a few games. I do wonder about the Graham situation. He obviously wants to be playing football - as demonstrated by his cameo against Stanley on Tuesday. Next minute Mowbray is touting a move for him in the local rag. (Testing the fan reaction? Which has been fairly muted. Most against him going but not threatening to throw their ST on the pitch).

It’s a sad indictment of Mowbray’s recruitment that £12m later we are still absolutely dependent on Danny Graham. I hope we don’t try to move him on in January. From Graham’s point of view, it would make sense. We really should have been better prepared for it though. Still time but I’m not sure we will be able to get any more money to buy a replacement. Brereton and Gallagher have to come good.

Hilton made some great saves - particularly at close range. One after a defender made a massive error in the box. I also thought Mols was brilliant tonight in centre midfield. He was everywhere and the ball stuck to him, always driving forward. Reminded me of David Dunn if he’d had normal sized thighs. He seems to have been around forever but us still only 20. I hope he can get a chance at some point this season.
