  1. The stats have backed that up for last season but it doesn't seem to get pushed like the possession stats. Where some continue to try and say it does work sometimes so it might be justified. Unfortunately the wise old book end in charge will continue with it. Theory is turning those 0-1's into 1-0's and we'll progress. Doesn't work like that in practice though it's just as likely they'll turn into 0-2's instead.
  2. We'll get an undisclosed fee and no player if he moves to Saints. Just window dressing all this talk and IF there was some player coming north then likely just a young loanee.
  3. I think Mowbray would've kept most of the seniors released if it was up to him. That kind of upheavel throws him slightly off his comfortable little cartwheel. Ready made excuses for a bad season of course but he now has the hassle of trying to replace a few. The ex Boro handbook and Coventry fall back options seem all but exhausted now. No head of recruitment handing him decent youngsters on loan either. Prepare for some last min panics this summer.
  4. Bog average kit suppliers, bog average manager and team. Just a bog average championship club there just to make up the numbers and not get above our station these days. All whilst flushing 20 million a season of Indian money through the pipes with seemingly happy billionaire owners. No wonder not many of them look like they give much of a toss on the sidelines. It's just a wage.
  5. Not sure i'd trust much that swirls around the club these days in regards to embargo etc. There's been a lot of assumption and little official comment, they seem happy for fans to assume FFP/Embargo is to blame for everything. They couldn't even throw a straight bat about the training ground stuff. Just a bit of lip service once it had been outed, vague is an understatement.
  6. Indeed. For a club now set on putting so much into relying on youth that was quite pathetic. No surprise whatsoever though as arse covering was in full flow by then.
  7. I think he'll be wrapping them in cotton wool pre season. Understandably. You just know though that a month or so into the season we'll be on the wrong end of several key players injured again. The excuses will fly even thicker and faster than before. As for Mowbray unless he performs a few miracles he's pretty much on a hiding to nothing this season. He's made his own bed though.
  8. He had to manage a back injury all his career though. Bit of a non argument that though as it was nigh on 40 years ago. I'm making comparisons to more recent times. The game is quicker than way way back yes but players are better conditioned and nourished for it. Also the changes in rules and less physical nature of it somewhat balance that out.
  9. I started wearing them once and never liked them they just didn't feel right and that was years ago. Presume they are even lighter and more flexible now so it's no wonder. There was an epidemic of metatarsal injuries when they first started with the lighter boots. Some high profile players fell foul of that. Players in general though seem more fragile as being trained in academies from such a young age puts strain on body parts before they've developed. They are also more athletic and seem lighter and less bulky than the recent past. So less to absorb the impact etc. I'm not having it that there are more injuries these days though due to pitches etc. That is nonsense.
  10. More injuries than there used to be ? With less tackles allowed, less elbows, in most cases better playing and training surfaces ? Come off it you're sounding like Mowbray now. The only thing that stands up there is the footwear theory. Also it's a nailed on fact Rovers medical dept is half what it used to be.
  11. Like last time in the 80's you fear a legitimate reason will surface sooner or later to close it. If we can't spend properly on the pitch or keeping the rest of the ground up to standard i'm sure the Riverside will become a problem sooner or later. The thing actually in its favour is the lack of footfall in there now means less wear and tear and less demand for the facilities. So i reckon it's safe....for now.
  12. The only basis would be the ageing facilities and cost of upkeep versus bottoms on its seats. Every season it remains open in the current climate is a bonus especially with downgrade specialists in charge. Its time will come though.
  13. No doubt at all there's a pattern to all this kind of thing now. Owners still too dumb to notice the little advantages being taken sprouting up over the last few years. Probably willingly blind to it though, keeping the midtable messiah happy.
  14. Which is what happens with most normal managers, not ones who've given up and just want a quiet life in the dugout. When lads here get rotated and they know they will regardless of results or personal form, then where is the motivation to fight for the shirt ? That applies to team or bench. Of course it's decent for the younger lads who know they'll get involved. Is that all we exist for now though ? You'd be forgiven for thinking so. Given some of the comments from the sideline last season about individual performances trumping actual results and league position.
  15. Yet again it's the contract that causes consternation. Good player on paper no doubt but taklng in all the elements of the equation, chucking 3 years at a guy over 30 who hasn't proved he can play regularly for 2 thirds of a year. Plus one who was hightailing it to warmer climbs for the money only for it to mysteriously break down at the 11th hour. Then in comes Mowbray on his white charger with a 3 year 10k+ deal ? Might just be bad luck wit injury but he hardly looked the part before that. So much so that TM was reaching for his excuses book quickly this time - not suited to our style etc- and all that crap. Really funny how we allegedly lose out on some players due to wages but always come up trumps when it's an ex boro boy.
  16. As empty as the 'look at Bolton and Bury' etc. The Kean era, as bad as it was is now a decade and about 150 million ago. We are well over that fence now but the arse coverers in situ will create parallels if they stay much longer. That seems a bit lost on some who throw out the above 'defenses'.
  17. So Waggots notes in the accounts say that besides covid impact the losses have gone up because of investment in the team. So where is the impact of that ? Why aren't the owners looking at that ? Nothing anyone can do about the covid scenario but continually letting people piss money can be rectified. No doubt the so called investment is mostly wages related and paying up of more installments. That being Brereton and Gallagher plus the alleged loan fees for a couple of others. Yet the team continues to go nowhere and shows no tangible benefit for this so called investment ! Why are they so blind to this ?
  18. Wasn't inferring it was conditional on that but it's still something that needs squaring off eventually. So any lumps of monies coming in will go towards whatever is outstanding i'd assume. I was more concerned that tax isn't something you can keep putting off unlike maybe re-jigging outstanding transfer money owed etc. It's all in the outstanding debt column at the end of the day.
  19. As i always say at this time of year i'd love to see the actual payroll and who's on it.
  20. Read the accounts there's a 5 million tax liability in there is there not ?
  21. Wages up £3 million ...... nobody tell me this manager snd his puppet aren't pissing money down the drain. Tax is the one to watch there, clearing 5 million on Armstrong would sort that.
  22. Why are there so many disagreements about the AA fee ? It was reported as 40% of any future PROFIT goes to Newcastle. So a 10 million sale is 40% of 7 million back to them and what's left is for Rovers. It's a shite deal for Rovers but we did well to sign him in the first place. Fact it might come to that is down to several factors but mainly whoever didn't tie him down a year ago at least needs sacking.
  23. He sounded a bit Chris Brownish so lets move on to hopefully something a bit livelier.
  24. Not sure how it sits right now but after the signing of Rhodes i think the ins and outs of their tenure pretty much balanced up. Probably not too far out now just on transfer business obviously, not including paying for the running costs black hole.
  25. Completely agree that barring a miracle Mowbray over the last few years has blown what slim chance we had at cracking the top 6. Managed to make it all about himself and this daft 'footballing philosophy' and nice guy image looking after all under his charge. Now it looks like a case of cut back and start again, yet with him still in charge managing something more within him and his pals capabilities. Namely a club in the mid 3rd of the Championship perennially. Yet still costing it's ownership -15 million per year and it's rapidly dwinding fanbase higher ticket prices. Sickening really but they are on the cushiest number in football and they know it.
