Rovers v Millwall. Wed 2nd Dec 7.45pm
tomphil replied to darrenrover's topic in Blackburn Rovers Fans Messageboard
The last 2 have definitely been screaming to be lost but they've dug out the wins so we can't fault the desire. Touched on it before but i think they are mentally stronger these days. Also whilst the finger can always be pointed when we concede the real howlers seem to be getting snubbed out for now so that's a big positive. The keeper helps that imo. -

That's how i saw it as well and i think us having a strong bench and being able to do that helped rather than any tactical masterstroke. Could be argued it gave us a big more leg and a base for the last 20. A point was the target though then until Armstrong did his number, the plaudits are for him from me like i said his manager owes him. Very similar to a league 1 season performance and win. All toil and disjointed but the strength tells in the end. -

The manager owes Arma and one or to others a day off that's for sure because he was pulled out of the do do and a potential panning again late on tonight. Tactically out done again and a desperate roll of the dice helped enormously by us having a much stronger bench. Very remis of league 1.....where that approach got us up ! -

Nice little habit of digging games out finally developing this team is mentally stronger than in the past now. Credit to Millwall always ugly twohats to play against and they were doing a number on us but good old Armstrong. He's becoming the Rhodes of this team. Very valuable win that, bollocks to the starting tactics again though. -

That's him all over it's so predictable always just a matter of time before he needlessly muddles things up again. Oh well, late winner would be new territory ! -

I just think he's one season away from being shot, he can turn in the odd great game but just can never follow it up. -

I think Johnsons problem is the same as all the older players we tend to sign = can't play back to back. Downing being the exception last season, i fear Ayala might turn out to be the same as the others though. -

Too much fecking about with yet again trying to be clever then the oppo just come and get in our faces and stop it. Hopefully the habit of turning things around will finally set in 2nd half but i'm not confident. -

Some forums allow that and are like that there's nothing to say some of those are actually Millwall regulars. Their type of rep is always going to attract that more than others but like everywhere else on SM a lot of them will be playing the big'un from their bedroom at their mums. Really wouldn't bother about it if it was allowed on here we'd have a few of the similar. -

We had a handy high profile fan to sort the job back then. -

His narrative often starts top 6 then changes to that very one as the season rolls on so it'll be interesting how long he talks it up this time. -

I'd be interested to see us have 10 shots on target like one of them predicts. -
If the near future was us as a yoyo club i'll take it. Agree this squad would never stay up it would take a bit of up and down to restructure again i suppose.

Certainly more pleasant watching a side that looks more balanced and players comfortable in the positions they were presumably recruited to play in. Said it before but if Mowbray took this team up now or next season it would rank as one of the finest BRFC modern time achievements without question. Thing is though have he just landed on this because of the situation or is it really a planned progression ? Dack coming back is great but it is also a dilemma but a good one if worked properly. Him, Bennett, Evans etc all being back fit actually worries me when it shouldn't do as the spectre of disjointed formations and shoehorning might rear its head again. Only time will tell if he really is moving us on but for now perhaps it's better that lads come back in dribs and drabs and cover for other inevitable absences.

All good thanks, nice to see you in the opposite corner again and fair play for sticking to your guns with Brereton. As for Arma i don't think it represented much of a risk as he must've had best part of 30 goals to his name by then. Clearly had something about him and if it had flunked it wasn't a massive hit although his 15 grand a week would've taken some shifting.

Armstrong had some goal scoring pedigree for a few seasons already plus it was obvious TM could fit him in the side. He was barely much older than BB and the fee was 1.75 if he didn't cut the mustard it might not have rose to 3, still might not have. Not really a good comparison as we were buying on a 'its already doing what it says on the tin' scenario. I don't know about straw man but there's plenty clutching going on trying to score a few points.

Would that pair have ever got into our side or near it if we weren't being run by clowns though ? I don't think either were ever anymore than lower level ability anyway.
