  1. It gave them somewhere to go after the Man Utd Superstore in Preston centre shut ?
  2. When you have chance to move consistent under achievers on you move them on. Desperately clinging on just hoping something clicks isn't trying to move the club forwards. It's weak management just trying to maintain the status quo for the sake of it.
  3. Embarrassing Preston ? It's like us naming things after Ardiles or Archibald !
  4. Or Samuel or BB that berth is well covered unfortunately.
  5. Agree on Cunningham all he proved is that he was a more comfortable left back than Williams or Bell there's absolutely no guarantee he'd have kept it up all season. The signs were good but he was all at sea a few times as well, such a shame we didn't get to find out if he really was the real deal. You've highlighted the good there of TM and also one of his major weaknesses and for me the two tend to balance each other out somewhat overall. Could be worse hell yes but also should be better at times he lends to the inconsistency by being very inconsistent himself.
  6. They are just farming out their 4 th choice keeper in the hope someone will buy him that's all that's happening there.
  7. Now don't go all snowflake again already you know you got to roll with punches on here you throw enough jabs yourself. You've got rusty on the lockdown mate.
  8. We've had a long line of novice keepers since Robinson so naturally they are all going to be compared to each other until we actually sign something that is already proven. Walton are Steele are the most comparable 2 of all that line of novices and Walton is going the same way. Making constant nervous clangers with no crowd or with a crowd isn't a good sign.
  9. I think the key there Mr Know it all intk ( yeah right ) is we can't keep it up otherwise we'd be successful, no ? That's the whole point.
  10. How can it be lazy we are talking about young keepers trying to make the grade of which both were/are. Steele was 3rd choice at Boro, Walton 4th choice at Brighton, behind...... I'll agree Walton seems to better physical tools than Steele as for me that's where his main problem was. The fact he couldn't reach the halfway line with kicks gave him and the team problems that it wouldn't under a stronger guy. Other than that you have 2 keepers who are similar in a way that they make too many unforced errors off their own bat. As Tim Flowers said being a good keeper there's no secret ingredient it's all about minimizing the mistakes.
  11. If you go back and look at Steele you'll find he was ropey when he first arrived but settled down a bit for a period. He was the weakest physical keeper iv'e ever seen down there but seemed to get a bit of strength in his legs and his kicking improved. Once the GK coach John Keeley departed he seemed to go rapidly backwards again. You'll also note if you paid any attention outside of your own 'i know everything' bubble that Eastwood became decent backup under Keeley. So imo the coaching and the involvement of the coach in recruiting keepers makes a big difference. As for the clean sheets you also might want to take into account defend as a team which starts from the front so the credit for that needs sharing around surely. The comparisons with Steele are about him being equally as unreliable for spells as physically they are different. You seem impressed because Walton looks bigger that doesn't make him immune to the same sort of regular rabbit in the headlights moments.
  12. He'd have to bedded into our system first so that may take a while........
  13. He and Steele are similar but most young keepers at this level seem to be in this era. Raya was sublime at times but could also be ridiculous but i think he'll always have both those traits in his locker. The difference with him seems to be make an absolute howler but bounce straight back from it no dent in his confidence at all. Likes of Steele and Walton are wobbly all the time, have their little purple patches then return to being wobbly. A keeper needs to excel at the basics and anything else is a bonus but nowadays it seems the opposite way. This level used to turn out good solid keepers why doesn't it anymore ?
  14. Once Coyle walked through the door we became relegation fodder had Lambert stayed we wouldn't have been. It wouldn't have been great but i reckon he'd have ground out a mid/lower mid finish.
  15. He definitely seemed to get complacent early doors. He was being picked all the time despite poor form which doesn't help. Neither did sticking up top on his own and hoofing it. Mowbray seems to have sussed how to get the best out of him.
  16. I don't recall many slagging off the Armstrong signing or fee. It was more a case of 14 million spent on forwards and nothing on the backline that had people's backs up. Armstrong was a bargain and TM has done well with him. That's in his plus column. Thing there though is he had goalscoring pedigree in lge 1 and he had pace. There were qualities there for all to see but he was still young. We also had a good look at him and signed him straight off.
  17. No I don't think it would be as severe but that's hypothetical. He has spent that money and even if they'd worked out so far the fact we've no decent keeper and don't own much in the way of decent defenders would still go against him somewhat. Against the right sides on the rights days his methods do work despite how frustrating they are. By equal measure they don't as well. That's why he's midtable Mogga.
  18. Ironic because i always thought Johnsons weak point was crossing when they had him as a right winger. Found his niche at Brum mostly as a tenacious midfielder i think. I hope he's mentoring Travis i see him being best in a similar way not another manufactured crab type.
  19. When the owners decide they want to do that they do so regardless. Therefore perfectly understandable fans might urge the same sometimes. You reap what you sow.
  20. Look at the bigger picture I'm judging him on his time here not last 2 games. Always had a knack at getting himself in handy positions but remember at one point the lad who scored a few for the U23s was in front of him simply because he could finish better. We are stuck with the other two but there's a chance to put a freed up wage to better use here.
  21. Poor finisher. His approach play and all round ability is no worse than the other 2 though and being fair for a few hundred grand it's about what you'd expect. Gallagher has the tools to be an athletic grafting battering ran Allardyce or Hughes would make him or break him. This fella has so far made him worse and doesn't have a scooby what to do with him. Out of the 3 he could be turned into something effective but probably won't be.
  22. Again some of it just has to be the failure of successive Venky managers to build a decent defence and install a proper keeper. That has proved extremely costly points and position wise. Chuck in the constant 'nice lads only' remit and it really is no wonder.
  23. Rid look at the chances he misses and always has and as long as he's around he'll keep getting on good bad or indifferent. The rotation of him, BB and Gallagher is already annoying imagine a season of it !!! One of them yes but all 3 no thanks we'd be lucky to see a return of 10 goals combined.
  24. He absolutely won't remember the poor start to the season then the revert to something more sensible and a winning run ? So much so that we thought he'd been taking his pointers off here ! Soon as he could he changed it again and round in circles we went. He's seems determined to try and pioneer something out of the norm and we are his experiment. Either that or he just prefers trying to keep everyone happy in his squad.
  25. Him or Mulgrew maybe ? I'd take a season of Mowbray stepping back and mentoring one of these or Johnson as long as he stayed away from the dug out.
