January transfer window 2020
tomphil replied to GunnerRover7's topic in Blackburn Rovers Fans Messageboard
Didn't know he was on that much myself to be honest. However if we want a quality keeper we are going to have to pay north of 15 grand per week even on a subsidized one. Just the way it is, pay or flounder about trying to find another to grow and sell. -

It's about putting the ball in the net not galloping up and down the wing. Get a good 45 or 60 out of DG and hopefully a goal or 2. Then get your willing worker on or moved from the right to centre. Defending from the front. -
Not sure about the ST rise we don't want to discourage anyone. When people sack off them for match by match they usually then end up part timers. Totally agree on the flat rates, certainly for BBE and Riverside. 20 quid bog standard 25 quid the more attractive fixtures and just leave it at that.

The sending back of Walton and releasing JL would surely make a nice contribution to it. Especially if they are considering spending a fee on Walton ! -
A Charlton fan tweet claiming Rovers have sold around 1400 so far. Good result this weekend might get it nudging 2k.

Davies had pace and was strong that stood out. Had a bit of experience in the rough and tumble league as well. That's something that would have done Ben the world of good I think To be fair the injury was really bad luck as he'd had an ok pre season. Not that he was going to used correctly anyway though seeing as they'd bought Gallagher as well. That's the world we live in at the moment though. If I was at Rovers I'd try and find somewhere , anywhere to get him games. Pay his full whack and just let them the other club cover expenses and insurance or whatever. Games and experience are invaluable to him now. Especially when they've invested so much.

You can soon put the fire out in a 19 year olds belly when his wages are trebled overnight and he can buy a 600k house with his signing on fee ! Especially when he probably wasn't that good yet in the first place. Major bollock dropped for a host of reasons by people who are experienced enough to know better. Then again we all know something wasn't quite right about this one and it would only likely happen under this ownership. Please nobody highlight Davies or Grabbi both had pedigree of some sort previously.

I don't buy into that theory. I think it's a passing interest were one or two of them like to play with it now and again. The rest as long as they get fed the right guff at every 6 month board meeting are happy to chuck company money at it. Because they can easily afford it and still get the odd bits of publicity from it. Those in between are the ones who really benefit.

I predicted this might be the case after the last one whether by design or just plain necessity brought on by continual floundering and bad spending. If the owners or their backers get a big chunk of the previous 3 seasons funding back from a load of sales they aren't going to be that bothered about leaving it to bob along. It covers some of their input, resets the FFP and overdraft and gives license to go again doing the same thing in the feint hope everything just falls into place one season. It causes them little fuss when they have people they favour running the show and they'll be lenient to bad form, purchases and maybe nice wages and bonuses out of in safe in the knowledge at least half of it can get covered every 3 season cycle. Fair enough a lot might say but in reality it isn't building the club it's just keeping its head above water whilst providing wages for people. Hence the lack of urgency and ambition that often seems evident here in certain quarters. If it's going to be that way they can't keep gasping at the crowds. Somewhere in all that they'll need to do something to stem anymore bleeding away of support never mind build it up significantly again. They should have learned by now northerners see right through the wool being pulled over their eyes.

Sums up the club at the min though they know they aren't going anywhere this season so he's probably been promised some game time as the season peters out. There'll be a few getting a look in who haven't to help them get fixed up somewhere else and no doubt maybe get another generous contract here. Possibly even at the expense of some of our kids, that's where we are at now. 100% look after the players best you can first even if it means carrying them and their wages making us unable to bring others in. Not sure what it says about some of these players and the contracts they are on when they'd rather sit it out than go somewhere and play. It's not a holiday camp but it seems far too easy going and set up to plod at the min whilst everyone does alright out of it.

Steady on. I get what you are alluding to though but big Ben has gone backwards badly since arriving here and i'm not sure it's all down to the fee. Still hold out a bit of hope but i really think the first 6 months of next season he needs to be getting regular games somewhere first.

One for the future ?

It grated me a bit when Sharpe tweeted ' That's what you pay 6 million for '. Really ? He's spent too much time being brainwashed at Brockhall I think.
-
Perspective, he was surrounded by quite a few first team players in our U23s. Good goal nonetheless and will have done him no harm.
-
It was in 2008 with my dad sadly there was next to nothing out there and that was when funding was allegedly better than its been for the last 10 years. Luckily we had a hands on family with some experience. Hope you get sorted.
-
Think Johnson being with the U23s a while figured how to play to their strengths. Sure i read somewhere, maybe on here that now they are wanting to be more like the first team. Can't really argue with that if they are trying to get an ethos through the whole club other than to say like the first team i can see some flailing around and falling away. Simply because they aren't being used in the position that best suits their ability at that point. So the recruitment at that level just like the first team needs to start reflecting that ethos otherwise we'll have a club full of utility men.

The calls for renaming the Riverside the Tony Parkes Riverside are just the ticket for me. Someone like Tony should have been honoured some way by now although i'm sure there's always been something in the thoughts at some stage regardless of this news. Time to do it now though and i don't want this to turn into a bashing thread again but they need to put it to the owners right now, today. We know how long things take down there and it's not something for the next board meeting with Rovers staff in July. Get on it right away.

Sorry to hear that my old man went through an aggressive form of vasuclar dementia brought on they thought by a quadruple bypass a few years earlier. Not really much you can say other than i hope you all come through it the best you can and your dad copes as well as can be expected. All the best.

Some of the stuff iv'e come across from the Liverpool masses in recent years regarding Klopp beggers belief. All changed since this season though where he's suddenly bordering on Shankly like status. There's rarely any middle ground these days and whilst a lot of Blackburners do tend to be too quick on the draw it's also genuinely bizarre how a lot of Rovers fans think our fanbase is the only that moans about everything. Or at least they like to get off on presenting it that, whilst having plenty moans themselves !

Surely time to lock this .....and all future January window threads ! -
Real legend and top gentleman. Not much consolation but he has the thoughts of the whole town behind him on this one.
-
Still about 2 years on his contract though. Think he's just clammed up about windows because for the second year in succession they've done nothing in this one. He knows he's spent up and summer might be a difficult one as well.

Fans will get blame probably due to lower crowds. Steve was 'looking into it' but not enough in the pot now. After HE over budgeted for some reason !
