  1. Tier 3- like an away game at Everton or Newcastle.
  2. Five teams ahead of us drew last night so we did make progress with that Preston win. It is going to require consistently good results to haul ourselves back into promotion contention. We hadn't beaten teams above us but now we have. Any defeats in the four games following Barnsley will see us slipping back badly again. Millwall, Brentford, Bristol City and Norwich are all promotion six pointers. The top 11 are all bunched up so the 3 goal margin at PNE was as good as a bonus point.
  3. I would start with last night's starting XI. Numerically, our list of absences should be no worse and at least one better than for PNE. Barnsley are a good footballing side let down by lack of strength in depth. People are saying the Tykes will come and shut up shop but I am not sure they have the personnel capable of doing that. If we start out low key, Barnsley will take the game to us and certainly have the players to hurt us. Again a high energy start on the front foot is needed from Rovers to avoid any calamities. We should win this one but 'should' doesn't mean we have an automatic right to Barnsley handing us the 3 points gift wrapped with an addition to the goals scored and goal difference columns.
  4. All in favour of having Rovers internationalists but Santiago makes Windhoek look like a trip to the corner shop. As for the occasional game in Concepcion...
  5. 75% possession for us, 0 shots on target for PNE. By way of comparison, only Barcelona with 70% possession in Kyiv come close to that level of dominance from last night's matches. Even Exeter's 6-1 demolition of Colchester came from just 54% possession while Hull won 3-0 at Ipswich from just 36% possession! Hopefully, if we keep last night's squad fit they can repeat those sorts of performances. And we needed that win just to keep in touch with wins for Norwich, Bournemouth and Brentford lastnight and straightforward games for Boro and Swansea coming up tonight. Fingers crossed for two draws Millwall v Reading and Bristol City v Watford.
  6. So pleased for the lad. PNE players definitely know all his tricks and how to counter them but Dolan was unplayable when he came on. Very encouraging for the future.
  7. His heat map will be a red blob well outside his area!
  8. Oh and really chuffed for Davenport. There is a very good player there now thankfully his injury nightmare is behind him.
  9. Holtby a significant part of the difference tonight. Really liked the way we kept our shape and momentum after the subs came on. PNE guilty of some really dirty fouls, only some of which were punished. Hope Elliott not badly injured but it didn't look good as he was helped off. Now can we have this level of performance consistently please?
  10. Holtby making a huge difference. Not convinced by Trybull. We are well on top of this one and I don't think there is the character in this PNE team to mount a 10 man come back. Let's get a second quickly then have some fun. I hope we don't see the team set up only protecting what we have from the kick off, please Tony.
  11. This 0, 2000 and 4000 nonsense cobbled up by somebody who is totally ignorant of life, the real world the universe and everything.
  12. Anticipating a right scrap tonight. Odds of 11 v 11 at the end must be pretty low.
  13. Might have been dropped. He let in 6 in the previous game.
  14. THE BIGGIE FRIDAY. Everton at Leyland and the return of Bradley Dack. Very handy win against one of the top sides in Brighton. Back up to 3rd with a game in hand on the top 2- Liverpool and Derby.
  15. Vinnie Jones on Gazza iconic image...
  16. Great posts from JH and revidge. Yes the ref robbed us blind at Luton but we were never set up right for collecting 3 points and in this game Mowbray had the luxury of up to 5 subs to shake it up. He had no plan B when we have been in that sort of situation against robust dangerous but frankly limited opposition and totally failed to change approach or energy level. That observation is probably true of 30% of our games in the Championship under Mowbray.
  17. We know how Holtby, Travis and Dack would combine with the current squad?
  18. Looking at the table, getting to the point we need a win or this season has gone away from us.
  19. We don't know do we? Holtby, Travis and Dack playing like they can would have transformed yesterday.
  20. I don't think Mowbray has but if we have as much good fortune with player availability from now on as we have had misfortune to date, the squad might be good enough to carry him over the line.
  21. Presuming you mean on Ben at the end. Definite foul but probably just outside the area. The unpunished foul on Arma just before was a rugby tackle. Still pinning this droped 2 points on Mowbray. So many things wrong with the team set up irrespective of unavailabilities.
  22. With the three in the middle and so many midfielders to select from it seems we have incredibly few combinations actually work. Partly because the way we are set up requires early forward balls yet Mowbray prizes retention of possession above all else. Is Trybull myopic about his colleagues' forward runs or is he scared to play a percentage ball for fear of losing possession? I suspect a midfield trio of Travis Holtby and Rothwell will be fantastic but with our luck an Tonbola Mowbray we will see it rarely this season. Incidentally, is it only me that gets the sense that Brereton and Rothwell running when the other is with the ball is totally disorganised?
  23. Bournemouth had been in the PL 5 seasons and so were pretty well PL class throughout the squad. It really showed second half against Reading.
  24. Magliore scored for Hartlepool too
  25. Well we saw an exceptional performance from one person on the field- exceptionally bad from the ref. Quite how we got all those yellows and Luton none but the run of decisions against us after we had equalised was something else. Yes we finished strongly but pretty mediocre for the rest of the match. Two points casually tossed away and I am putting them against Mowbray who did a pretty bad job setting us up for that game
