  1. There seems to be an assumption that all current season ticket holders will renew. Taking everything into account I think we'll be around the 5,000 mark.
  2. It started out as a hobby and to try and prolong my active involvement in football but climbing up the ladder has to be aligned to becoming more professional. Very rarely was there a day when I wasn't doing anything that didn't involve refereeing. Training, paperwork, meetings, travelling and the games themselves gave me little time for other things when the 9-5 job is factored in too.
  3. I don't recognise the nickname - do you know his real name?
  4. At least it looks like I'm moving on that one John ??. My usual area of patrol hardly got me out of the centre circle.
  5. A good article which addresses some big deficiencies in the tactics and selection. https://www.lancashiretelegraph.co.uk/sport/18583417.another-mid-table-finish-rovers-go/
  6. It's quite simple to me. Nyambe seems to be a quiet, humble lad who won't cause a fuss when he is dropped in favour of Elliot Bennett-Mowbray. It's another example for me of Mowbray picking the low hanging fruit.
  7. Two fantastic posts from Rolo and Matty written with passion and obvious care for our club. If anybody from the club reads this board they should take heed of their words.
  8. The first day of pre season training Wycombe had nine players and two of them were trialists. That out Mowbrays bedding in theory into a cocked hat. Excellent from Gareth and his players. I just hope the grounds are open so their supporters can enjoy the ride.
  9. I believe he did intentionally kick the Barnsley player which is the key point in the referees judgement.
  10. Whilst I don't think Mowbray should be saying publicly that he fined Brereton your assertion that the sending off should have been challenged is wrong in my view. Appealing a sending off costs £500 which is non returnable if the appeal is unsuccessful and there is a possibility of extra games for a frivolous appeal. From my viewing it was a clear sending off and wholly unprofessional from Brereton.
  11. What a moment that was. If Jack could have got hold of that FIFA blazer he would have been locked up.
  12. Another sad day for English football with the passing of Jack Charlton. I met him a couple of times and he was a proper football man. I saw an interview once when he talked about the fourth England goal in the 66 World Cup Final. He said he was screaming at Bobby Moore (I think) to put the ball into row z but Moore played a sublime pass to Hurst who scored. Jack said he shook his head and muttered to himself "I'll never understand this bloody game". RIP Jack.
  13. Hats off to you my friend. I used to deal with a sales representative who was a huge Man United fan. He had been going for years to league games, European games and stuck with them when they got relegated. I hadn't seen him for a while but in our next meeting the topic turned to football and I asked him about United. He said he had stopped going and only had a casual interest in them now. I was stunned and asked him why. His words stuck with me. He simply said "I love Man United but hate what it's become". That summed it up.
  14. The main negative for me has been that we have dropped 25 points from winning positions. Losing leads has been a recurring theme under Mowbray.
  15. There is another punditism Andy that grinds my years - playing between the lines. WTF does that mean. My theory is that the condescending 'experts' make these silly things up to try and impress us mere mortals and justify their media work whilst imparting the professional opinion on us. As you say football is such a simple game and should be treated as such.
  16. There are hundreds of players that play against Mowbrays teams and Dack was one of them. My wider point was that Mowbray generally likes to sign players he knows or that somebody at a previous club will endorse their character. As for the European scouting system the time to judge is when we actually sign some players who have been recommended. Personally I'll believe it when I see it. Will the new legislation ending free movement in Europe scupper any potential new signings?
  17. How can it be a three up front when you say Graham was deeper. I just can't get my head around how you fit a false nine into a system. If it's as you say and Graham was a false nine (I disagree) then it should have been 4-3-1-2 to accommodate Graham being deeper. That's the nonsense of over complicating things for me.
  18. I have always thought of Mowbrays transfer policies as lazy and picking the low hanging fruit. By that I mean players who he has worked with or been at his previous clubs where he can sound out his contacts about a particular player. The notable exception here is Dack who has been the jewel in Mowbrays transfer crown. Dack had a bit of a reputation at Gillingham of being a bit of a maverick and was no stranger to trouble. That is maybe why he was relatively cheap. If I ould wish for one thing in the next window it is that Mowbray comes out of his comfort zone and tries for another Dack or two.
  19. Of course players will move around the pitch in a fluid system but in general Graham was playing down the middle and was the focal point of our attacks, doing what he does well by holding the ball up, bringing players into play and occupying their centre halves. Gallagher pretty much hogs the touchline in Mowbrays wide striker role.
  20. No false nine, no wide strikers, no square pegs in round holes and no baffling tactics. The players seemed to know their roles and positions. The result is a solid performance and win. Hopefully Mowbray will at last realise that football really is a simple game. But I sincerely doubt it.
  21. Barber - how very dare you. Footballers have hairdressers ??.
  22. I too would like to see them both under a different manager. Preferably at a different club.
  23. Pre Covid-19 I would have said give Downing a new deal but the in the last four months the footballing landscape has changed significantly and with that in mind I now wouldn't. It's not just Rovers who are counting the pennies. When this season ends in a couple of weeks there will be many Championship clubs pruning their wage bills but more importantly players will not be able to demand wages disproportionate to their ability. We will still have Mulgrew to shift and that won't come cheap.
  24. This is the real by product of the wholly ineffective Fit and Proper farce. Once again the lower paid personnel are the ones to be hit. The EFL should be investigated for their inept negligence. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/53318930
  25. SPL fixtures are out today with the first games on August 1st. Despite meeting five days ago the EFL haven't given a firm date yet for the Championship to start. It's not like them to dither...........
