  1. Sorry to see Danny Graham go but it's the right decision. He's been really good for us and his contribution should never be underestimated. He seems like a great professional and a decent bloke. A nice interview here. https://www.rovers.co.uk/news/2020/july/danny-grahams-fond-farewell/ I'm not sorry to see the others go. Smallwood (in league one) aside they have contributed very little and had a few years of earning good money. I wouldn't keep Downing neither. His post lockdown from has been distinctly average and his wages could be put to better use.
  2. There simply wasn't time Andy. Maybe one for another day ??.
  3. This time last year Mowbray was talking about changing to a possession based game and (I honestly don't know) I would hazard a guess and say that the possession numbers are higher but in every game were we have had more of the ball we haven't hurt the opponents. As demonstrated last night we are so easy to play against. I personally think it was a case of Mowbray talking again without thinking. How many of our players are able to play an incisive passing game? Very few in my book. After three years we have no identity in terms of how we play and if Mowbray wants to address this he needs to sign players who can play that way and play the right tactical game. I am really fearful of our chances next season under Mowbray but after a decade of mismanagement throughout the club I shouldn't be. Another fundamental issue has been the dropping of 28 points from winning positions which just shouldn't happen. I believe the root cause of this has been a lack of real leaders, another area where Mowbray has been negligent.
  4. The own goal was unfortunate but the real issue was letting the Luton player win the first header. Not defending balls into our penalty area properly has been a real Achilles Heel under Mowbray. Even in League One it was our vulnerability.
  5. The real worry for me is that the whole club is becoming stagnant. Mowbray is Mr Average who will probably keep is mid/lower table which some are happy with. His body language and recent interviews have the look and sound of a man who knows he has gone as far as he can. Waggott seems to have a similar intention as he appears to be in his comfort zone at Rovers with essentially errant, uncaring owners who seemingly never question anything. Both Waggott and Mowbray are under no pressure. The supporters are mainly disenchanted and disenfranchised by the whole situation and I firmly believe that season ticket sales will be the lowest for decades and who can blame anybody for not renewing? But ultimately nothing will change. With the new season less than seven weeks away there appears to be very little planning done on or off the field. Mowbray allegedly doesn't know his budget so can't plan accordingly, season tickets and merchandise aren't yet available but this isn't new to us. Every close season under these owners we have the same issues. The elephant is still in the room and whilst it is we are going nowhere.
  6. And a marked difference was that Huddersfield 'rested' players because they were assured of a playoff place not to mention Redknapp doing a number on their Klopp wannabe manager. We are simply trying out a few kids with a view to next season. Managers have to look after their own clubs interests.
  7. Just to correct you Bazza Mark Patterson didn't play for Burnley. The story is that he was on his way to sign for them when several of his friends contacted him and told him they would disown him if he signed for them. He allegedly phoned Ternant and told him he wasn't signing and went home.
  8. Having seen Luton several times they are a hard working, robust side with big lads up front and in defensive positions. I am not really concerned about Lutons or Wigans points but from our perspective it would do the seven Academy players we had out yesterday the world of good to play in this game. I don't want any sentimental team selections from Mowbray using players who won't be here next season. Our future is these youngsters.
  9. An entertaining game but typical of an end of season dead rubber. I was pleasure see the young lads not only play but show plenty of promise. Several posters have been saying our future is bringing through the youngsters and I firmly believe that is the only way for us to go. I wonder if our team that finished the game was the youngest ever to represent Rovers at first team level. Anybody know?
  10. Interestingly the back four are all Academy graduates.
  11. I really hope Carter can replicate Phil Jones' debut. I have seen him play several times and he seems to have all the bits and pieces including physicality.
  12. It's been an incredible few days for Ryan Nyambe. Bereft of confidence and dropped in midweek and now back in the team presumably full of confidence.
  13. I don't remember many comments either way when we signed them apart from wanting them both to do well. On that score (no pun) they have failed miserably and the buck stops with Mowbray as it's his job to get value out of his signings. The pair have been Mowbrays biggest failings by a country mile.
  14. Essentially John the vast majority of teams are a collection of characters and temperaments just like any other workplace. The extremes of nice and horrible guys are in equal measure. That's one of the reasons I don't really buy the team spirit line so many come out with. Many times have I been asked by a player to send off one of their teammates or indeed their manager. The majority of players I came across were pretty much as they were portrayed to the public, both good and bad.
  15. Leeds have only used 17 outfield players this season. Waggott will be mourning the loss of 8000 Yorkies paying top dollar next season.
  16. I would say that's excellent management then. Promoted and money in the bank. When our best centre back goes in the window I hope Mowbray can find a better replacement cheap.
  17. I actually think you are putting up a stoic defence for Mowbray (I wish he could do the same for Rovers ?) but ultimately be is judged on results which are determined by many variables which is what many people are using to defend or criticise. I'm really trying to look ahead and firmly believe we have gone as far as he can take us. For the record I have always said players should not be rewarded for promotions with new, binding and onerous contracts. They have bonus clauses written into their existing contracts to reward them.
  18. Mowbray did inherit some trash but that was three years and more importantly around £20m ago. Whichever way you look at it Mowbray has squandered a significant amount of money and just not improved the squad he inherited proportionately. Another costly aspect of his tenure is the awarding of new contracts to players who simply couldn't contribute enough to improve us. And as you mention Jason Lowe didn't Mowbray want him to stay?
  19. I used this for the current season. https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/west-bromwich-albion/transfers/verein/984
  20. I would call what Mowbray has spent significant. West Brom under Bilic have spent around £18m and brought in more than that on outgoings. According to this Leeds haven't spent anything. Mowbray has had money, he has just squandered the bulk of it on poor players. https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/leeds-united/transfers/verein/399
  21. Were there any specifics? Autumn lasts from the end of September until the end of December.
  22. I watched the first of a three part series called The Rise of the Murdoch Empire in BBC2 this week. I didn't realise how much power and influence this bloke had over the British government spanning a good few years and amazingly the two main parties.
  23. Now that would be interesting. I'd love to know if time has quelled his anger ???.
  24. That was in my first season as a Football League linesman Mark and it was actually Terry Genoe's testimonial. It was around that time that I started to move steadily up the ladder. I always thought that my refereeing success ran parallel with the fantastic Rovers years between 90 and 95. As Rovers were clinching the PL I found out I'd been promoted to the Football League referees list following several other promotions in the previous five years or so.
