Has it been confirmed about Lenihan and Van Hecke being out? I agree about not going up but I really want, in the words of Bowyer to have a really good go. That to me means taking a risk of two, something that Mowbray doesn't do too well.
-
In truth I don't think anybody wants or expects him to be at his best. We need a goal of two and the meagre return of the rest of the team means he is absolutely our best chance. Statistically the team scoring first in the Championship has something like, from memory an 80% chance of winning. That is one of the main reasons I would start him and and not bring him on when the game could be set. And his presence should give the team and supporters a lift.
-
I actually agree that Mowbray won't start him but surely the vindication to start him is the fact he played 80 minutes against one of the worlds best teams with seemingly no adverse effect. Had there not been internationals this week I think Diaz would have been wrapped in cotton wool and an excuse offered tomorrow by Mowbray as to why he won't play at Coventry. My point is that Mowbray can't hide behind anything now as his fitness appears to have been proven.
-
I might be in a minority but I'm happy Diaz played 80 minutes last night. Mowbray has no excuse or reason for not starting him on Saturday now as he has seemingly come through an 80 minute fitness test. It's simple - we need goals and he is our best chance of getting them. For me it will be another nail in Mowbrays coffin if he doesn't start him.

There is something quite evocative about black and white photographs Mark. For our generation it brings back so many memories as there weren't too many people carrying cameras like now so seeing one like this was rare. As you say the Health and Safety police would have a fit seeing something like this. -

Where will we finish?

An alternative way of looking at the away goal drought, as said to me at Reading is that it's been over 2400 miles since we last scored a goal on the road. -
Attendances: A cause for concern

And I don't think the cost of living rises will be factored in by Waggott at all. Football will simply become too expensive for many and clubs like ours will need to be creative simply to keep their current season ticket holders. I spoke to a bloke at Accrington yesterday who, under their early bird scheme paid £179 for his senior ticket. I know several Fan's Forum members and if Waggot t uses them as a yardstick he is sadly mistaken. The ones I know will go irrespective of cost as they are in a position to afford it. He needs to speak to fans who are on the bread line and ask them what it would take for them to buy tickets. I don't for one second believe he will though. The legacy of Covid will still be used as an excuse when explaining another downturn in season ticket sales. -

I went to watch Accrington yesterday and in terms of foresight and generating money they are streets ahead of us. I spoke to several season ticket holders who have already bought season tickets for the 22-23 season in an early bird scheme, there was pre match entertainment in the fan zones which were well populated, all hospitality is sold out for the rest of the season in the terrific new sports bar and they were advertising a boxing event for this afternoon. It's just being creative and understanding what will bring in extra revenue and giving the fans what they want. There is a car park behind the away end and they ask for donations only to park there. The game wasn't too good but it's eye opening to see what a small club can do but their big neighbours can't. -
Mowbray is going to have to refashion the team as we stand to lose around the players from the squad. From that perspective alone surely a new manager could bring in a good number of new players who fit his style and way of thinking.

Five of the bottom seven are either in or challenging for a playoff place. I think such a table would be more at home in the PL but in the Championship it's more of a level playing field from a purely football only perspective. I really believe that a far bigger factor is the management team on and off the field and standard of coaching.

The question of moving the game and putting pressure on the FA has just been brought up in PMQ's. Johnson tried his usual unfunny remark basically saying I couldn't give a toss. The question included a comment about the environment and the emissions from thousands of cars making a 400+ mile round trip. The FA are supposed to be guardians of the game but in truth, as you say the money from a sell out Wembley trumps anything else.
-
I always think supporters who say we are over achieving just lack ambition and are in a comfort zone, happy to be mid table plodders. More than likely people who hide behind stats after every defeat and take Mowbrays word as Gospel.

5.5 from me. The way he has handed out lengthy contracts to average, older and simply not good enough players has cost this club a fortune. I also believe that his over thinking and over complicating tactics has cost us a lot of points but I will counter that with some games where his in play decisions have gained us points but the deficit of points lost is far greater. However by far his biggest failing is not bringing in the right type of player in January when we were second in the league and will not, in my opinion get a better chance to get automatic promotion. Two of three players of the right ilk would have got us over the line but in his infinite way he didn't think so. The promotion he took us too gets him some credit but in all honesty with the players at his disposal for that level of was fully expected. Mowbrays time will generally be remembered by me as better that the likes of Ince, Kean and Coyle but way short of the likes of Don Mackay, Bob Saxton and Jim Smith.

'Coffee house ball jugglers' - brilliant 😂😂😂 His first club was Girton Road Gasworks. Sounds like something from Alf Tupper in The Tough of the Track.

Mowbray, the summer and beyond

Steve Cooper is no longer with them. -
I thought Dack looked fitter and sharper last night that he has in any game since he came back. He tired, understandably, towards the end but out in a real shift quite often picking the ball up deep and getting us on the front foot. It will be a while yet before we see anything like the Dack we want but I think his comeback has been managed well so far.

For me he started with a back four with Lenihan at right back. And then ahead of them it was three in the middle and three up front. -

https://www.lancs.live/sport/football/mowbray-explains-new-challenges-young-23443918 Mowbray having a go at the players mentality. This is a bloke who sulked his way through the second half against Derby because a few players told him he had got his tactics and set up wrong (which is universally acknowledged that he did). I wonder how these young players viewed our leader doing that? -

I'm convinced if he gets on that plane to India he'll come back with a new contract. These wretched owners won't sack him face to face. When Kean got us relegated from the PL he went to India in the summer and came back with an improved deal. They are a cowardly bunch. -

Another hugely disappointing game for us all and worryingly (in light of the Bristol City defeat) against a really like side extremely low on confidence. I wasn't comfortable with the selection of a back four despite the comeback against Derby. The excellent run we went on was with a back three/five and suits our players and the ability to counter attack. After Mowbrays strop on Tuesday he was omnipresent in the technical area today but might as well have been sat down. I noted several times when he wandered about with his head in his hands after a mistake by a Rovers player. There seems to be a malaise going on that Mowbray can't fix despite all his bluff and bluster. He can blame individual errors for ever but solely from a results perspective the buck stops with him. I'm dreading another three years of him. -
What a terrific game of football which turned on the sending off of Jiminez. Even at that point I don't think anyone foresaw what was coming as Leeds showed great character. And for us Rovers fans it couldn't have been any better. I could almost hear those Benedictine glasses smashing from Darwen 😂😂😂

I think we can nick this with the right formation and square pegs in the right holes. For anybody who hasn't been before it's a soulless place, probably the worst of the new grounds primarily for the lack of amenities around the place. Parking isn't great neither and last time we were able to go the standard charge for parking was £10. Paul Ince - enough said.
