  1. I have seen both of their league games so far and we should underestimate them at our peril. They are organised and with the likes of Cameron Branagan in midfield they can play, particularly on the counter. The two big centre halves aren't particularly quick but are a real threat at set pieces. I think they will look to capitalise on our weakness in this area. If we do the basics right and match their endeavour we should have too much for them.
  2. A big tough guy like you wears a nappy?
  3. I really don't believe it was a block by Hughes. The two players tussled and both players were guilty of holding and this occurred nowhere near the ball and had no consequence on the shot and subsequent goal. I reiterate what I said about the referee blowing too early and giving the VAR nowhere to go.
  4. The issue was that VAR couldn't get involved because the referee blew before the ball went into the goal. Effectively play was stopped from the moment he blew. Webb talks about 'actions with consequence' and the contact between the two players had no effect on what was a stunning free kick. Had the referee not blown too early it would have been interesting to see what VAR would have advised him.
  5. One of my pet hates is players getting cautioned for technical offences like dissent or kicking the ball away. For somebody like Travis who plays on the margins a cheap yellow card often takes a lot away from his game.
  6. What was Travis booked for? I saw the referee flash his card just after Travis made a challenge on the far touchline and thought it was for that. The game restarted with a throw in so it can't have been for the challenge.
  7. I was happy enough to come home with a point which I would have settled for pre match. We probably rode our luck in truth as we gifted Norwich several chances through sloppy play in the first half and once again we looked vulnerable from set pieces. Hedges took his goal well and in the first half we played good football and attacked with pace. The long, diagonal pass was used to good effect. So going in one up was pleasing but the worry for me was getting caught in loss in defensive areas. And this came to pass when Brittain got caught in possession and Norwich equalised and it gave them new energy. We simply couldn't match that energy and several of our players looked out on their feet. Their second goal epitomised this as they countered with pace and we couldn't get near them. I fully expected them to get another but for some reason they sat in and let us get further up the pitch. To say the equaliser delighted us is an understatement but I honestly was surprised. Seeing it back the movement from Ohashi is class. How he feigns to go one way and then gets between their centre halves was pure class. In terms of a summary there was good and bad in equal measure. There is a right and wrong time to try and play out and we have to get the balance right. It was also notable how quickly some players tired quickly - that is a worry for me although in fairness it was bloody hot at Carrow Road. Out of the six league goals we have scored four have been netted by substitutes. Well done to the manager for that. When the fixtures came out I said I would be delighted with seven points from the first three games and we are on course for that.
  8. He reminds me so much of another Glasgow drunk who was involved with Rovers. Bluff, bluster and untruths.
  9. Outstanding journalism that - he must be in line for some award for that. It's two weeks before the end of the window and we need some players and this back is extolling his wisdom and insight in the most patronising way.
  10. How can anybody not like this bloke. Heartfelt piece from Sammie.
  11. Really good work and it graphically explains the mess these owners have put us in through their own fault.
  12. I'm naturally disappointed to be losing Szmodics but he's one of the few players I can't begrudge a big move to. He has come through the hard school, he hasn't been cosseted in an Academy and that shows in his play. His effort and willingness have been greatly appreciated and his goals did more than enough to keep us up last season. The biggest compliment I can pay him is that I think if any one of us fans got the opportunity to play for Rovers we would play like Szmodics does. Two of my best moments of the last fourteen years were the wins at Leeds and Leicester and Szmodics was fundamental in both. His celebration as he ran through to score the second goal at Leicester is a memory I'll cherish forever. Thanks Sammy for the smiles and great moments you gave us.
  13. Sky are reporting that Brighton have activated a £40m release clause. I have seen a lot of him but never anything in his game leads me to believe he is worth anything like £40m. I know he is only 22 but Szmodics scored ten more goals last season than Rutter has in his entire career.
  14. Aynsley Pears' father, Stephen played in goal for Middlesbrough and he too was a keeper. Hopefully Isaac Dunn, son of David and current scholar at Brockhall makes the grade for us.
  15. A really important aspect of Gueye's game is his first touch which so far has been very good. It can buy him a second or two to weigh up his options. In my view that was the worst aspect of Gallaghers game.
  16. An enjoyable night in Stockport when even the famed Manchester rain couldn't dampen Rovers fans spirit. I spoke to some Stockport fans before the game and they explained their selection predicament and, after having seen our team I predicted a big win for us, possibly eclipsing Harrogate last season. And in truth it should have been as we were utterly dominant all over the pitch without having to get out of third gear. Another pleasing aspect was improving some players fitness levels which will be really beneficial over the next few weeks. And no injuries was also a benefit. The only sour note for me was conceding a sloppy goal once again from a corner. I really hope this doesn't become our Achilles Heel this season as other clubs will have noticed this and will look to exploit it. Hopefully we get a good draw tonight as we all enjoy a good cup run.
  17. Szmodics just got off the coach and it looks like he is starting.
  18. It would Andy but looking at Derby's goals on Friday they were virtually free headers particularly the second one where the Derby player didn't have to jump. Watching how we set up for corners we go man for man which means somebody isn't doing their job by allowing unchallenged headers. This is usually done by the set piece coach who will tell our players who to mark.
  19. In yesterday's match between Sheffield Wednesday and Plymouth Sky showed a graphic from last season about the number of goals conceded from corners in the Championship. There were four clubs on eleven and we were one of them. After conceding two more on Friday (Don Goodman actually mentioned this) it looks like a potential problem area going forward. Hopefully Eustace and his staff will address this quickly and get us better organised from corners.
  20. Just a reminder that they are only available online. You can also book coach travel online tomorrow.
  21. Yes if you mean when they are going on sale to the first phase. Rovers put something out about how many fans had a certain number of points. If you can find that it could be an indicator as to whether you might get a ticket. Found it. https://www.rovers.co.uk/news/2024/july/26/updated-loyalty-points-scheme-information/

  23. Is it safe to assume Norwood and Gayle weren't offered deals.
