  1. Another poor day for England and needing about 6 an over this is a match they cannot win From this position they need to forget this stupid Bazball mindset and aim to bat the whole day tomorrow A draw is a perfectly acceptable result and would be as good as a win if they can achieve it
  2. England lose last 5 wickets for 20 runs. Innings included 6 ducks and 2 150s. Bonkers Bring back Boycott and Barrington
  3. Normal service resumes with Duckett and Pope. 587 looks a long way off
  4. Shocking news. Awful. Excellent player and seemed a nice lad too, recently married. RIP.
  5. Baath is a very good defender and a big loss - really disappointed to see him go. And Derby only gave him a one -year deal too - which says it all about the cretins at Ewood.
  6. Neil Hawke, another Aussie, was the East Lancs pro in the late 1960s. Yours truly faced him in the nets a couple of times. My grandad loved watching Learie Constantine (โ€œConnyโ€) - one of the all time greats - at Rammy. He used to dash down to the ground when word got round that Conny was โ€œinโ€. Another Ramsbottom pro was Clive Rice, one of the best players to play for South Africa and had a great career with Notts.
  7. Michael Holding played for Rishy too. Saw him play at Ramsbottom early 1980s, wanging it down at amateur batsmen. He was very fair though, no short stuff and kept the ball up to the bat. Dennis Lillee played for Haslingden in he mid 1970s. Great win yesterday and it will be good to beat India in this series. But as above it's the Ashes that really counts for me and England's pace bowling attack in this Test would not be good enough down under. If Archer and Wood (and Atkinson, who I really rate) were fit and firing on all cylinder we might have a chance.
  8. We always played 2 touch football in training - it speeds the game up and forces you as a player to think quicker and get your first touch right You have to wonder if Rovers should do the same because it would improve Dolanโ€™s game.
  9. I don't think "Bionic" Bradshaw achieved the heights expected of him either. Died last year, only 67
  10. Plymouth Argyle was founded in 1886 - how much history do you want? Average gates at Home Park in 2024-25 were about 16,500 compared to about 16,150 at Ewood
  11. Nothing wrong with ambition (our club badly needs some) but the way Szmodics went about it to engineer a move was wrong. And his recent comments have made it worse. As mentioned above, I hope one of our players runs their studs down the back of his legs when he comes to Ewood.
  12. They both refused to play because they wanted to go somewhere "better" Not in the Derek Dougan class of downing tools but there's not much difference Sammie's spoilt it for me and has tarnished his time at Ewood
  13. Refusing to play in the hope of forcing a move - it's probably not unusual. but I have to say I find his admission selfish and appalling. Rovers were paying his wages and he's effectively gone on a one-man strike. - I wonder how the rest of the squad felt. There was no reason why he could not have trained as usual for the start of the new season while talks between the clubs went on in the background So yes, he's in the same bracket as Gestede and no doubt many others who behaved similarly - and he's gone down in my estimation. If he's still at Ipswich he should be getting a (not so) warm reception at Ewood next season
  14. To be fair thatโ€™s a poor post. 20 people losing their jobs isnโ€™t funny at all
  15. Dolan was our worst player in many games for the first three quarters of last season - I lost count the number of times I was shouting for the manager to take him off. He played badly and looked lazy. Then the last time I saw him play was the away win at Luton when he worked his socks off all over the pitch after we went down to 10 men. He looked a different player So what brought about the transformation? With his contract running out and the prospect of a lucrative move the answer isn't difficult
  16. Thanks. Looked a good player for us Seems a bit of a comedown to be playing in the South Lancashire Counties League
  17. Where is Beck now, assume he's gone back to Liverpool?
  18. There are complications for local papers, which are in structural decline with increasingly stretched owners, to cover a story like this - not least the legal implications and the possibility of action is they get anything wrong. That's my guess - it's all too difficult
  19. Sorba Thomas - remember him? - playing well for Wales against Belgium tonight Just signed a contract at Stoke
  20. Dolan to leave so Hedges to start. Money in (maybe) and none spent. Bingo! The Venky's model
  21. Oh dear Chaddy, got it all wrong again by backing Ange Becoming a bit of a habit don't you think? The mystery is why you're bothered about a very unlikeable North London club
  22. Reform and Brexit voter. Why do they go abroad where they know there's even more more furreiners than at home?
  23. I expect Brittain to leave with Montgomery taking his place. The lad looks capable enough. Low earner replaces high earner and a possible fee for Brittain too. It's almost inevitable
  24. That team would go only one way - down to League One
