  1. Horrible, short-sighted decision and a sign of the penny pinching things to come this summer with regards to transfer dealings for the men's squad
  2. Go back to the old European Cup, European Cup-winners Cup and Uefa Cup All 3 of them prestigious knockout competitions with no leagues Won't happen of course because TV money needs more games and TV money talks
  3. Disappointing to see Forest lose form and fall away in the final games. They've had an excellent season and I'd dearly love them to make the CL instead of Chelsea and Villa, particularly Chelsea. Nobody likes them. Three "big" northern clubs going up is good will make the PL better balanced next season. Shame none of the London clubs are going down. There's too many in the top flight. Target for next season any of the London clubs and/or Bournemouth, Brighton for relegation - to be replaced by more north of England clubs of course
  4. Of course he’s slowing down. He’s 33, it’s only natural and to be expected of a player that age. It’s not criticism of him, just the reality. If you’d played the game you’d know this. I’d keep him but only as a substitute with the occasional start.
  5. Righty-ho It is my humble opinion that Brittain has had an outstanding season and should be in the top 3 if not the winner Apologies if this does not chime with yours
  6. Brittain not even in the top 3 - something wrong surely? Congrats to Tronstad though - lynchpin of the team. Simon will be pleased
  7. The idea is for another season-long loan at Rovers to sort himself out. Why would a “journeyman” (according to the experts) get a contract in Saudi?
  8. He's not going to get a game at Forest. We've given him a chance to save his career. He has ability - I'd look to keep him but with the proviso he gets his head down and starts working
  9. Markanday and Garrett aren't Championship level players, and there has to be a question mark over Leonard too. At 21 he needs to start delivering I like JRC but his best football was a brief spell under Tomasson and he's never pinned down a defined role. Agree keep Buckley and Sanderson and jettison Woodrow, Forshaw, Hedges, Vale and possibly Weimann though he scores goals and has much to offer even though he's ageing. I'd also listed to offers for Gueye. Dennis has talent. I'd sit down and tell him he's in last chance saloon with us and some home truths about his attitude and what he wants to do with his career.
  10. An average squad did better than expected and we were spared at least the trauma of a relegation battle but it was the usual mixture of hope, despair and, ultimately, frustration at another opportunity lost. In the end it's another season gone and a return to the Premier League seems as far away as ever. It's sad because for older supporters who are running out of time and haven't got long left, it would mean so much.
  11. There's alot of revisionism on Dolan here. He's a flawed player with an average scoring record and, like all players, is replaceable. I'd rather he stayed but won't be shedding any tears if he goes.
  12. Dolan's upturn in form has coincided very neatly with his contract talks this summer - or is that a cynical view? He's no doubt played well the last few games but dearie me, he's had some real stinkers this season, including a few that I've seen, and I'm sure if you look back on the thread over the course of the season there would have been plenty of fans calling for him to be sold. Have to say I'm ambivalent whether he stays or not but on the basis that he might finally be emerging into a half decent Championship player and is unlikely to be replaced were he to leave, then you have to hope he and the club can come to an agreement.
  13. ☹️ That's that then. I'm glad we couldn't get tickets for Bramall Lane now
  14. Manchester City would be the perfect move for Wharton. Guardiola’s precision pass and move game is made for him, though he would have to work a lot harder than he does at present. Pep is a fan and City will be busy in the transfer market this summer so it could happen sooner rather than later
  15. Proud's the wrong word IMO after all the defeats and abject performances this season but yes, it has to be acknowledged we've done well to be in contention from where we were 5 games ago
  16. FT 2-1. Amazingly, after all the defeats and disappointments and upheaval, it goes to the last game
  17. I'd give POTS to Brittain, but Tronsted certainly in the running
  18. And there it is..... easy win game apparently
  19. We went to the game at Vicarage Road which Rovers were unlucky to lose to a soft penalty (handball against Hedges IIRC) so it will be interesting to see how we go. Watford were unimpressive in that game and with confidence recovering after 3 successive wins we ought to win hopefully to keep us in outside playoff contention to the final game. Let’s be optimistic Rovers 2 Watford 0
  20. Farewell and thank you for the memories Mick McGrath, an old-fashioned left half and key member of the Rovers team of 1962-64, the best I ever saw to wear the famous blue and while halves. Like Den said, it was a privilege to watch that team RIP.
  21. Tronstad's 2nd goal and Rovers' 4th was technically brilliant. Anyone's who played the game will tell you it's very difficult to get a good first-time connection on the ball with the right foot to a pass or cross coming in from the right (same applies to the left). Tronstad did it perfectly with an excellent strike Totally unexpected performance and win today, especially by that margin against a form team. Has Ismael finally got to grips with this team (and vice versa)? Let's hope so.
  22. Brentford and Bournemouth as established top flight clubs - who would have thought that 60 or even the more recent past? They were bog standard fourth division clubs when I were a lad. Hats off to them but it just shows what brilliant management and organisation can do and why Rovers fans should never accept our fate as a "small town" club. Same for Burnley too - it pains us to say it but they are a very well run club. Meanwhile the agony goes on at Ewood. It was good to hear the Venky's Out and anti-Waggott songs at Kenilworth Road on Saturday but supporters need to keep up the pressure on Friday and every match to the end of the season.
  23. Millwall need to win and will be coming to attack - which gives us a chance as our best chance of scoring goals is on the breakaway. If Millwall go ahead I would suggest that will be it - we just don't have the quality or the skill to unlock packed defences.
  24. Loyalties split because I wanted them both to win. Rose should have won so much more in his career - that's 3 Masters runners-up now plus one at the Open. Amid all the accolades for McIlroy Rose's 66 yesterday was a brilliant round. Good to see the Europeans at the top of the leaderboard in Ryder Cup year
