Former Rovers players - Goal compilation thread
jim mk2 replied to SuperBrfc's topic in Blackburn Rovers Fans Messageboard
Thanks for that. Super player, lovely to watch- shame he wasn't at Rovers longer. Didn't he have a row with Souness? He wouldn't be the first. Met him after a game - a really nice guy. The talent in that Rovers team compared to now. Makes you weep -

Mark Hughes sacked by Bradford - hope he’s still available when Tomasson leaves. On the way home after a depressing night. We played well for 20 minutes at the end of the first half but the rest was forgettable and the late goal entirely predictable Rovers fans few in number at the Ricoh and subdued most of the time. It’s going to be a long hard winter -

That was a relegation team I saw at the Ricoh tonight - and it wasn’t Coventry We were basically a bunch of midfield players and defenders passing the ball amongst themselves. Apart from a brief period in the first half the goal threat was nil and all Coventry had to do was sit back and wait until we lost the ball. The match could have gone on all night and we’d never have scored. A lack of goals and giving away soft late goals is classic relegation form If it wasn’t apparent already we’re in trouble -

View from the Ricoh is we were very good that half but it’s a strange looking team that doesn’t have a recognised striker. Not many Rovers fans here sadly -

To be fair, I played with injury niggles for years and I am certainly paying the price now. Knees, back, shoulder, neck are all painful because of injuries sustained 40 years ago. I don't regret it because I loved playing and didn't want to miss a match but it comes back to haunt you later in life -

I'm a bit of an albatross as far as watching Rovers is concerned - we very rarely win - so I'm hoping to break the sequence tomorrow. We were awful at Coventry last season during the poor run early in Tomasson's tenure and to be honest I'm not expecting much different tomorrow. Fingers crossed - we need the points -
The US team captain was as much use as an empty tea caddy by supporting the caddie's behaviour.

Missed the game yesterday and I haven’t seen the quote but apparently Maggott said after the Leicester game that the aim this season is to avoid relegation. So there you have it……from promotion contenders to relegation candidates in 5 months. If we do somehow stay up no doubt Maggott will declare the season a “success” and seek a bonus on top of his £300k salary. This is how these people work -

The CEO admitted as such in an interview. -
Brilliant from the Europe team - I'm thoroughly enjoying this The Americans think they're the best at golf and, having attended 2 Ryder Cups including the famous 1989 win at the Belfry, I know how much this means to them. Some of their supporters are grade 1 idiots. Get in the hole, Europe, and give them a spanking

The Cardiff match will have raised expectations but if we play the same way against Leicester there will be only one outcome and it won't be pretty. Cardiff weren't at full strength and played like they were on their holidays but Leicester in the league is a totally different proposition. I can't see anything other than a solid defeat with the team's weaknesses in goal and defence ruthlessly exposed. Leicester 3-0 -

Never seen us win at Chelsea. IIRC saw a 1-1 draw at the old wreck of a ground Stamford Bridge back in the 1980s and lose a league cup tie (think it was) under Hodgson (?) when Vialli got sent off. Will try to go to this one but £30 tickets and a long expensive journey isn't easy these days. Horrible Cockney supporters - fear the worst but will hope for the best -

Received this from Christina at the club at 3.45pm today in response to my email to Maggott.... presumably a standard email sent to all fans Dear Sir Thank you for your email in regard to the closure of the Blackburn End for our Carabao Cup match versus Cardiff City on Wednesday, 27th September. There are a number of factors to consider when creating the operational plan for a matchday and the decisions made are based on these. Initially we review what the anticipated attendance is going to be and then measure this against the financial cost of opening the entire stadium. For the first round of the Carabao Cup; BRFC V Walsall, we attracted an attendance of just over 6,000 supporters. There were fewer than 2,000 supporters in the Blackburn End for this fixture, which is less than 50% capacity for the lower tier. Due to the make-up of the stadium, once the decision is made to open a stand, the staffing of that area remains the same whether the stand is at capacity or accommodating fewer than 500 supporters. For this evening’s fixture, we are anticipating an attendance of just under 4000 which is just over a third of the capacity for the Jack Walker Stand and will therefore adequately cater for the demand. We do appreciate that many of our long-standing supporters sit in the Blackburn End and would argue that this stand is affectionately referred to as the home end, but the Jack Walker Stand can be relied upon to accommodate all supporters with ease, provides a better backdrop for the broadcast footage and ultimately it will help us to manage costs at a time when all costs have to be carefully considered. I’m sure you can appreciate and understand why the Club has taken the relevant measures on this occasion. Of course, these decisions will be reviewed on a match-by-match basis should we progress further in the competition, as we hope to do. Thanking you for your continued support. Kind regards Christina Haines On behalf of Steve Waggott -

Entertaining game but Entertaining match but has the feel and pace of a training game. Cardiff surely wouldn't have been so open and lackadaisical in a league game. -

Website still down, so the undecided few are unlikely to be getting tickets anyway. How convenient. Who would have thought Maggott would stoop this low to justify his decision? -

Now here's a lad who could do us a good turn Warning: Burnley connection https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/66918026 -
The Premier League isn't "boring" but it isn't a true competition because only a select few clubs can win it. As such, you could definitely (not deffo) say that the Premier League is pointless because there will be only ever be a very small group of potential winners, while the rest are there to make up the numbers. As always, it's the relegation battle at the bottom that is far more interesting
-
Any football "fan" who says Rovers "bought the league" is a no-nowt berk. If Rovers "bought the league" then the same applies to just about every club since professional football began - particularly in the last 30-40 years. ManU fans will say they had the class of 92 in their team but they wouldn't have won anything without buying other players who were crucial to their success. And in any case, many of the players that Rovers bought were cheap, bargain unwanted players from the reserve teams of other clubs. The twits who say that "we bought the league" are also only parroting the numbskulls in the national media who always looked down on the rise of little Blackburn Rovers and invented the they "bought the league" narrative as a slogan with which to do us down. Anyone football fan who really knew his stuff would never repeat this nonsense,

Like all the others after beating us. They would say wouldn’t they - can we play you every week? Playing well and nul points leads to relegation. Give me a scabby win any day of the week. -

The season is taking shape and I think it's time to look at the possibility that we could be in trouble The squad is weaker than last season, it's inexperienced, it's lightweight, it's unbalanced, and it's struggling We're shipping easy goals every game. Players are making costly individual mistakes. The goalkeeper is a liability Worse, the manager doesn't look like he's bothered and it wouldn't be a surprise if he left I hope this thread can be consigned to the rubbish bin and we comfortably stay in this division, but I'm worried. -
