Ashley Phillips - signs a new deal

A long, long way to go before he needs to worry about what national team to play for! -
Transfer Window - COMPLETE. Where’s Gregg?

I suppose the problem with direct comparisons is that we are not playing the same formation. The key with Brereton is making sure that we have targets very much lined up, hopefully of a decent fee and good calibre to instantly be signed. I am not convinced that will happen though. -

They have signed Freuler from Atalanta and Mangala who they had only just signed prior to that game and Yates who is carrying an injury also missed that game, plus they are rumoured to want another midfielder. Add in Lewis O'Brien who they have signed and he might struggle (same with Cafu) to even get a place in the 25 man squad. -
Jon Dahl Tomasson - Sweden coach

I wouldn't even say it would be a luxury, could be a potential way of adding a number of goals. -
v Reading (a) - 17/8/22 - Mark 1

He reads the game quite well anyway but as soon as he plays someone with an aeriel threat, he would likely struggle. Moving him from left back also creates a weakness there. 3 changes? I definitely would not take Pickering out, Edun was horrendous yesterday whereas Pickering was one of our best players. Dack is the one potential change that I would perhaps go with out of that. -

I wonder if it is worth looking at Nottingham Forest's squad with them signing so many players, perhaps a few Championship ready players will become surplus to requirements. We need experience and we need a midfielder, he is not a world beater but how about someone like Jack Colback who can also cover left back as a much more steady option than Edun if Pickering gets injured? Or even Ryan Yates. -

Tomasson has started the season as well as mathematically possible, winning every game. We have been lucky that our threadbare squad going into the season had only really Carter missing but now even a slight hint of a few injuries and we are looking short, we need players in ASAP and if we drop any points with a small squad in the meantime, then Tomasson can look to Broughton and indeed Venkys and feel let down. And no, I am not asking for rubbish players to be signed to make up the numbers. -
And the team is much stronger with a regular goalscorer in it, I think was the point being made. You speak as if the choice of music impacts upon whether we win or not.

Theyd be stupid to not accept such a sum for a player who hasnt come close to meriting such a big fee. -

Markanday and Rankin Costello both picked up injuries for the under 21s, leaving us potentially even shorter. -
Sweet Caroline was a consequence of England at the Euros but is a little cheesy and irritating in general. Obviously if it stays though id like to hear it 21 more times this season. No idea what to change it to.

You cant possibly know if Tomasson would or wouldnt consider or be asked and pressured into considering financial consequences of his team selections. No one can ever dismiss that point out of hand. And even if he did consider it, he wouldnt say as such publically. -
Cant help but think that the music upon victory needs changing.

I don't think that I have seen the total revolution in style under JDT that many imply. It is much more subtle IMO. A lot of talk about how we wouldn't have won that last season, I don't necessarily agree, we won lots of gritty, hard fought games last season and battered a few teams too. There is talk about the fluid front 4, in the main they have fixed positions including ones that have historically created criticism, Gallagher wide the obvious example. None of this is critical in any way, football is about results and it's 100% successful at the moment, plus I do think that at times the managers tactical prowess has shone through already. So far, so good.

The key should be to put out the best team though, and get results. If that includes loan players, so be it. Maybe even we can loan out Carter once more if we end up signing 2. -
Edun was a real liability when he came on unfortunately, I don't think he did anything right and kept losing the ball. Dack certainly had a positive impact and how good was his pressing to create an opening for Dolan?

Timo Werner?! Would a non scoring striker have helped? Their best season since Ferguson was under Mourinho who also finished 2nd but also won 2 trophies for them. One thing I think they need to do is stop trying to involve Alex Ferguson in any way. He was such a good manager but his constant presence creates unnecessary pressure. Also, if there is genuine interest in Rashford from PSG, they should snap their hands off. Overrated, lazy and never scores. Sancho is up there with the biggest wastes of money in recent memory too. -
The main reason that there aren't more is because of the terrible pricing strategies.

Why? Van Den Berg is a player who has been a stand out performer at Championship level for 18 months so surely that puts him ahead of Carter at the moment? The problem comes if the manager ever considers any fine when making changes. If he does, and it's a real grey area, then it is a problem. Also, if he gets a bad injury, you are paying extra for the privilege of having a player unavailable, potentially. -
Brilliant win today, superb team effort to overcome a really good side in West Brom. Thank god we didn't accept a draw or a narrow loss before! There can be justified expectation to want to beat last seasons 8th place finish. Also the signs that a few injuries which will happen and we look very short beyond the main 14/15 players. Had we not won today, Tomasson would have justifiably been able to feel let down by those above him. I thought Ayala was absolutely immense, Phillips looked edgy once or twice but had the perfect partner and certainly can be proud of his League debut. Brittain again was excellent prior to his injury and looks a good addition and a big shout out to Pickering who has started the season really well and has had unfair criticism at times. Travis showed real leadership and was the complete midfielder today, Buckley was a bit hit and miss again and clearly isn't a right back. Going forward, we weren't a constant threat but Brereton was the pick of the front 4 and both goals were excellent. Sub wise, glad to see Dack come on and he did well when he came on, Dolan a bit more mixed with his usual energy but one particular stupid backheel nearly cost us. Morton was ok but Edun was really, really poor and West Brom got joy down his side.
