  1. If as reported that the Bosnian has chosen to go elsewhere, then perhaps its a further indication that we arent capable of competing financially with top half Championship sides, especially off the back of Lenihan etc leaving to seek pastures new. As ever, I will judge everyone involved based on what does happen rather than what they tried to make happen. Lets hope the alleged money doesnt vanish after a rumoured transfer like it has many times before. We dont even know if we bid for this fella and indeed how much that was but it is irrelevant now.
  2. Not only does the quality dip but it becomes less and less competitive with each passing year. Teams at the top with all the money from parachute payments etc dominate (Fulham winning 7 nil 3 times shows that) and teams with points deductions are becoming normal.
  3. I definitely see them regressing under the poor management of Appleton. Not a bad suggestion.
  4. We shouldnt play a back 3 nor can we play without Dack. Kaminski Carter Ayala Wharton Pickering Buckley Travis Hedges Dack Markanday Brereton As it stands.
  5. Will they have been able to or indeed have tried to do so much 11 v 11 work so soon into pre season to the point where individuals are appearing like a "fish out of water?" Who has said this? I also think on Dack that the sentence "hes not going to press" seems a little conclusive. It implies that he is unwilling, physically the question is how much he has lost compared to before his injuries as although the tactics were totally different, he could press even if it isnt his number 1 strength. I instantly think of a goal he scored at home to Wigan right at the end in which he chased a dodgy backpass down. Youd also have to weigh up whether youd prefer a Buckley/Dolan who can perhaps press better but will likely score a third of the goals that Dack does.
  6. If he chooses them I imagine it will be financial though. They have a higher wage bill.
  7. Im sure the main factor is money. Id rather earn 20k a week than 10k a week. As much as either would be nice at the moment!
  8. Sheffield United have apparently today gone to Portugal.
  9. I would like to think that having a slight semblence of defensice ability would be prioritised over simply being fast in the case of Magloire! If he plays we are in trouble. To be fair, Wharton isnt quick either so this assumed style would need a whole new defence.
  10. I find it all very strange and ultimately it proves nothing but there has been a flight from Malmo to Manchester that wasnt initially scheduled today. People are sharing on twitter. https://bhfudbal.ba/post/6432/sve-je-zavrseno-anel-ahmedhodzic-ima-novi-klub Bosnian press however seem to think its basically a done deal to Sheff Utd. I wonder if this supposed (taken with the biggest pinch of salt) money will be spent elsewhere if necessary.
  11. Either you or Rich Sharpe seemingly is wrong.
  12. Hard to look past Birmingham and Reading as 2 of the bottom 3. The league has some real shite near the bottom and they are the stand out 2 with skeletal squads and peculiar managerial appointments. Maybe Rotherham will take the third place as they can never cope above League 1.
  13. I havent seen anything about him being some kind of hero that saved Rovers. That is nonsense not far off being at the level of Mowbray being "the worst pound for pound manager in the clubs history and equally I would comment if I saw such drivel. You mention that it isnt on here hence presumably why I havent seen such quotes. The players he turned down were loanees in January, he said as much. The wrong decision compounded by the injury to Markanday. Other nonsencial quotes biased beyond belief are that he wasnt arsed about our decline and that the players decided that they would take matters into their own hands at half time v Derby. Some of the players lost were loanees (5) because last summer he wasnt given any money so had to fill the squad. A few of the others left because our budget isnt particularly competive, one of whom could have funded at profit a couple of those holes had the owners not stupidly interfered. I dont get the desperation for everyone to make him to be either seen as dismal or heroic, 99% of the time the former. To me, he was just an average manager who did a decent job and left the club in a better place than he left it without overseeing a considerable difference. In changing manager, we were on a 3 or 4 on the dice. To get a club with our resources promoted, we would likely need a 6 or at least a 5. Mowbray was not that so a change was necessary and lets look forward rather than looking back and making out that Mowbray was the devil reincarnated
  14. Obviously it is about results and points, I believe there is a 100% correlation between points and league position! But financial resources are key and factually we would have to overachieve on our finances especially our wage budget to make the top 6. That is not self deprecating, that is the situation. As I said, it can be done because the correlation between money and league position certainly isnt 100% and many teams have made the top 6 without top 6 budgets over the years. If you dismiss that as negativity living in a blue and white bubble that is up to you.
  15. Believe it or not, im not best mates with anyone in the squad so I will struggle. I also dont pay any attention to people coming out and saying how great the new manager is in training, they arent going to say anything else are they! Did we overachieve, erm financially yes I would certainly say so. Our wage budget isnt the 8th highest and it was a season in which we sold our main striker for big money and didnt reinvest so the budget last season was probably minus £15m or whatever. Obviously in general a fresh start was 100% needed, the managers reign had more than run its course and a fresh face with new ideas is certainly needed. Lets hope it manifests to an improvement on 8th place this season. The aim for us is to overachieve. Its not an impossible task as other teams with similar resources have shown.
  16. Was the group we had better than the 8th best squad in the league? Not sure it was. I can only take your word that his persona on the training ground is identical to how he handled the press. I never got the impression that the players didnt like Mowbray or that the team spirit was anything but good. Indeed he has gone and lets hope that Tomasson can get us overachieving above our resources and from 8th and into the top 6 this season.
  17. I am well aware that a deal is presumably very complex without the need for documentaries whereby the footage will be cherry picked. Not the point I was making.
  18. Exaggerations: Played everyone out of position Well backed Nonsense: Dozens of games when the players looked completely confused Bennett was a good crosser! Overspent on Brereton (impossible to say assuming we will over double our money on him) Totally fabricated - how could you possibly know these: Poor man manager Poor comminicator Poor coach Either way, you are entitled to think he seemingly is an appalling manager as much I felt that his tenure here was ok. We both agree that we needed a change and can look to the new reign with excitement. But why is the common fixation to focus on it so much considering the presumed relief you must feel that Mowbray has now gone?!
  19. Blatantly wasnt true was it. One in the middle would be fairer, and the league finishes under him would back that up. And much of the stuff he said in the second paragraph was quite clearly crap when he was asked difficult question when in poor form and had nothing constructive to say. He didnt actually not care about results or league table but youd be reluctant to focus on it publically when youve lost a few in a row. The change is correct and lets hope Tomason can push us on higher than 8th now but I dont get so many peoples fascination to mention Mowbray and massively exaggerate his shortfalls every 5 minutes.
  20. Like I said, sometimes unforseen external factors will come into play. My initial comment which I stand by was that Nixon is the master of covering all bases.
  21. They can, but that doesnt mean that Nixon doesnt often talk shit and has also been a journalist for long enough to perfect the art of covering all bases so that he can protect himself either way which only increases his arrogance and self righteousness when he gets a story right.
  22. Notice how he doesn't ever commit to anything, everything is in the balance. The Bosnian could come here, he could go there, he might do neither. We want Cantwell but it's difficult so I am covered in case that line is bollocks.
