  1. Pardew wouldn't tie in to the idea that the second round of interviews most likely features people surely from the first round as he has only left CSKA today. That being said, he does fit the Venkys remit of a random desperado appointed from nowhere.
  2. Where are these people, aside from one on this forum has been swooned by their regular chats over a cup of tea and a biscuit?
  3. McCarthy finished 14th at Ipswich in his first season, having taken over in the relegation zone in November. He then finished 9th, 6th and 16th, it did go stagnant in the end but he was working on a miniscule budget, if I remember rightly the only fee he paid in the first 3 years or so was 10k for Tyrone Mings (I think) so he was working with miniscule resources. I don't want him here but he did a good job at Ipswich and they have only gone downhill since. I don't think Pardew's time at CSKA Sofia warrants much analysis to be honest. seems like he was only appointed on the 15th April. They have played 5 league games of which he won 1, lost 1 by 5 goals to nil and drew the other 3, lost a second leg of a semi final 2-0 but went through on penalties and then lost the final of the same cup.
  4. Pardew is one of the more depressing names I have read so far, not least because he would be on par with Nathan Jones as the biggest knobhead in the league and perhaps the country as a manager, because its all about results. But his recent CV does not suggest that he would be a good appointment, and is generally a massive mixture of doing a decent job at a couple of places mainly a long time ago and also littered with a few failures. You can't possibly know that. The lack of speed and proactivity going into the process considering that the owners seemingly knew months ago that Mowbray wasn't staying yet didn't bother to put a succession plan in place, plus even then, the second round of interviews, the additions to shortlists, its all painstaking, so its understandably been met with criticism heaped upon a lack of faith in the owners and the executives already. Surely that can't have helped his decision when he had a guaranteed job lined up, we don't know if he made the second round of interviews, he may have been fed up at the waiting, he was mulling over a 1 in 3 or 4 chance here perhaps v a guaranteed one elsewhere, he felt messed around, there is plenty of potential additional reasons that led him to go abroad. And yes I am sure money played a part, and Venkys seemingly will never appreciate the importance of allocating a decent budget on a manager. Why do you seemingly see going to a better paid job as a slight on his personality, wouldn't you? What do you get from the messageboard, a place whereby people share and debate their opinions on Rovers, if you look down upon posters as wannabee managers who should have applied for the job if they have the sheer arrogance to share those opinions.
  5. My point was that yes there were 60 applicants, but it wouldn't take long to whittle a large proportion of them down. I don't see the number of applicants as a major hindrance to getting the manager appointed in a timely manner, in fact I would presume that most if not all vacancies in the top 2 or 3 divisions see a large number of applicants as we seemingly have done. Whatever they were, as per usual, they werent carried out properly, hence my assumption that they don't really give a shit. If they ever intended to extend Mowbrays' contract (before you go off on a tangent, I know he should have gone) then they never bothered to communicate at all regarding that. If they didn't, then if they had any genuine interest in our football club, then they would have started to scope out potential replacements in advance. That clearly isn't the case.
  6. If there was a local mafia, surely that could still qualify under the "local company that employs local people that wants to sponsor its local football club" should it request a place on the front of the shirt? Meaningless twaddle. It seems strange to me to dismiss betting companies based on moral principles then only to incorporate a sponsor that presumably pays less but also is questionable on the morality issue?
  7. Pathetic as always, embarrassing as always.
  8. Out of those 60 applicants, it would surely take about 10 minutes to whittle out a huge proportion of dross. People like Grayson and Adkins probably applied, in 5 seconds there, 2 CV's in the bin, down to 58.
  9. Only in exceptional circumstances. Liverpool spent the majority of that season without any defenders, with Van Dijk, Matip and Gomez all injured. The owners clearly had no intention of extending Mowbray's contract months and months ago, so in reality, they have had months to have someone lined up. But why specifically today, may I ask, should the announcement have been?
  10. There is a lot of talk about how the new manager needs to really promote youth which to an extent is true but I don't think an expectation to bring loads more through imminently is fair or realistic. That doesn't mean that I think veterans should be brought in, players (often considered hard men) in their mid 30's well past their best, but players with good experience to compliment a very young core. Obviously much of this will come down to money so over to you Venkys... Forget the unproven kids for a second, the likes of Vale and Pike who have struggled in non league in recent times or players like Phillips, A.Wharton and Garrett, even Brown who is a bit older, if one or two break through then a big bonus but maybe the immediate focus should be on loans for many of them. But the bones of the squad still under contract are all predominantly young. Look beyond Dack, Kaminski and the lesser seen Ayala, and to a lesser extent Hedges and Gallagher who are in the middle. You have the likes of Travis and Wharton, established senior players at 24, (as well as Edun as a squad player) Pickering (and Brereton but discard him as he will be sold) is 23, Buckley is 22, Carter is back from a loan spell and is 22, Rankin Costello (although he perhaps needs to move on) is 22, Dolan is 20 and Markanday has less than an hour of senior football and is 20. We could do with 2 or 3 (maybe Lenihan is one) players perhaps in their peak years.
  11. Interesting does not accurately summarise a constant wave of people everywhere claiming to know who is being interviewed and who has got the job, only to constantly turn out to be false. Who cares who gets linked, think of all of the names that have been linked that turned out to be bullshit, the magical 47 managers, none of which will be at Ewood Park it seems next season.
  12. Solskjaer is a shit manager, win percentages are limited in that they make results a binary outcome when there are in fact 3 outcomes, but also they don't factor in what situation those teams were in prior. Surely the more useful comparison would be how he did with lesser resources at Cardiff...
  13. There are lots of people judging the process of interviewing managers by comparing it to their own experiences in totally different fields. For a start, those being interviewed for our managerial job have had their whole career constantly in the public eye the whole time! The whole thing seems farcical, how slow it is and things are always slow under these bastard owners, not aided by having a seemingly clueless CEO with no autonomy to make decisions anyway. I do agree that getting too worked up about rumours when clearly not a single person knows what is happening is unnecessary, we've had managers welcomed on here, people setting their profile pictures on social media to linked managers, people losing their shit about specific linked individuals, so I take your point there. But in general, surely this sort of motto is meaningless, a big part of the experience of being a football fan is having strong emotions about things we cannot control? You got angry when Coyle was appointed to the point of stopping attending. I assume you like me got angry and/or upset by us getting relegated that season, by us getting relegated under Kean, by Kean staying in situ for so long, by our collapse this season, or even at individual games, I don't know if you went to Peterborough but I was pretty angry when their second went in regardless of having no control over it. Conversely, it can make us happy when we can't control it. I also feel like it is counterproductive to compare Mowbray to Coyle, Mowbray did an ok and steady if unspectacular job here, to compare him to a disaster like Coyle is unfair. You mention using Coyle as a benchmark, Mowbray certainly wasn't "lavishly backed" across his tenure, moderately at times more like especially compared to the rest of the league, whereas Coyle had one of the numerous summers under Venkys whereby they sold and didn't reinvest. If being lavishly backed is comparable to that summer under Coyle then it doesn't say much about our billionaire owners!
  14. He was but if that was the final 3 id rather beg him to come back than have any of them terrible managers. Of course it was, hence the comment "its his job" the reply. A terrible appointment seems inevitable.
  15. If it was Cocu, Woodgate and Grayson as a final 3, id rather have Mowbray than any and thats saying something. Surprised that Rich Sharpe didnt list all 47 linked managers for you. Ultimately nobody knows anything.
  16. https://www.lancashiretelegraph.co.uk/sport/20178333.blackburn-rovers-managerial-search-latest-ahead-interviews/ So to conclude, none of the 4 names mentioned in the last 24 hours are going to get the job and we are no closer to knowing. Farke and Carvalhal have gone elsewhere. Shambles of a club.
  17. I can never fully understand this attitude that people get offended and flippant about a manager (or indeed player) who follows a more lucrative contract as if its unethical. The vast majority of people on here if not all would take a job for a wage that multiplied the one you've currently been offered. Lets be honest too, a job at a mid table Championship club who seemingly can't decide on who they want with owners that dont care and not much money is not the prospect us Rovers fans may see through blue and white tinted glasses.
  18. If an eye emoji with no further detail got people excited in a transfer thread at which point we have no manager then they could do with some hobbies over these summer months! I find this whole ITK willy waving charade a bit tiresome in general, I think it must be the particular prevalance with the manager situation.
  19. Doesnt make sense to me. Even Venkys wouldnt surely delegate interviews to Waggott and co aside from Farke and if that was the case, why would he then even need that interview with Waggott, if he has side stepped the general interview rat race? Ultimately, until those bastards stop running this club, it seemingly will never be run normally and efficiently. Why cant they just get good qualified people in high positions and delegate properly? Id be pleasantly surprised if Farke was appointed and even more so if we had a reasonable transfer budget. The latest likely manager rumour changes with the wind and there have been 4 in 24 hours, the key is not to get carried away until someone finally is appointed on the official website. Up until then its all conflicting gossip and much of it is unfounded. If you could give the "x's blue and white army" treatment to a few less favourable candidates like Unsworth, Ferguson and Grayson, hopefully that will jinx them out of the running!
  20. 😂 was a set of eyes "accurate info?" Or just I know something you lot dont know slightly before you all but I cant/wont tell you? And is it summer excitement that weve signed a kid for the youth team?
  21. Doesnt make sense that Venkys are interviewing people then passing them back down to those on the ground, whilst allowing them to interview others themselves. Seems illogical and inefficient even for owners as bad as ours.
  22. I love how in the quoted tweets, one shows him a West Ham shirt doing a ground tour (who he apparently has been to watch too) and another claims that he also follows Fulham with his girlfriend due to Tom Cairney. One of our own indeed!
  23. If any of the majority of names linked are appointed then it certainly wont be exciting, if indeed it even is one of these names.
