v Swansea City (a) - 5/2/22

big game on Wednesday night now, always back us at home to get the win but they really need to put on a performance as its been poor for a while now (albeit scraped a few 1-0 wins). Hopefully have our best 11 out bar Pickering for Giles and see a result to go with it -

Garbage performance never look like scoring here and comedy defending for their goal. Swansea are dreadful as well a top 2 team would be 0-4 up here -
January Transfer Deadline Day 2022
roverblue replied to Tom's topic in Blackburn Rovers Fans Messageboard
Starting to have the same feeling as most deadline days for us, lots of talk but then nothing materialises! Hope we dont regret it later in the season, really would have liked a decent striker to come in to give Ben some competition like we should have done in the summer. -

Fantastic battling result, rovers on top first half then boro the second. The turnaround in our defence is incredible this season, they make it so hard for the opposition to create any chances with this formation. The only way Boro were going to score last night was from one of their 500 free kicks into the box they seemed to have! Looked a lot more solid with Nyambe and Travis back in the team, feels like we have gone off the boil in an attacking sense these last few games but still managing to get the odd goal. As per usual most of the chances come from Buckley who was moved back to his forward role and was outstanding, how we missed that against Hull. One negative for me was the performance of Butterworth, he has clearly got the talent but he just seems so lazy last night and failed to chase down balls or press the opposition. It almost reduced us to 10 men for the period he was on he was that ineffective, inviting more and more pressure. Something that can be coached into him thankfully but as bare minimum you need to put the yards in. Defintately could do with some signings this week with all the injuries, maybe Dack will be back on the bench next time we are Ewood given his run out last night. -

Really poor half, no need to tinker with the formation and setup but Tony couldn’t resist. Needs reverting back and subs on asap to turn this around -
I know Mowbray is getting a lot of credit for the season since the Fulham debacle but it stretches back further than that in my view. The team have been good all season bar that blip and a few struggles when key men got injured. The same will happen again if we lose Lenihan/Nyambe/Travis for any period of time as we just dont have the squad depth to cover for their losses. I would love to see Mowbray be given some cash in Jan to strengthen the depth around right back and striker in particular. Even if we just swapped Clarkson and Poveda for loans covering in those areas it would give us a chance of staying up and around the playoffs. For whatever reason its just clicked this season, feels like the league 1 vibe again in the ground and you can see the players work rate and togetherness plays a massive part in it. In particular the three at the back that he has put in place makes it really difficult for the opposition to create chances we just snuffed Brum out completely yesterday it was like swatting an annoying midge out the way.

Awful conditions but a great battling win, one bit of quality from Kehdra and Diaz was the difference. Ref might as well have worn a PNE shirt absolute disgrace of a performance. Great to see some grit and fight from the lads, special mention for Bradley Johnson who basically came on to smash a few heads together 😂 Atmosphere class once the ref riled us all up really enjoyable day out and long may it continue.

Credit to Mowbray today the changes all paid off in spectacular style. Poveda especially looked fantastic where had that performance been hiding. Felt like a proper counter attacking wing play formation today and worked brilliantly. Also got the crowd behind them and probably the best atmosphere so far this season. Much better mood going into the break

I find it hard to say it but I honestly don't want to go on Saturday after last night. The performance was bad enough but the lack of apology or noises that anyone in the club is bothered hurt just as much. As a fan I just feel taken advantage of, the whole match day experience is crap these days. No atmosphere, no passion, the facilities are a joke in the riverside with broken toilets and no staff at the kiosks. All for £100 more than I paid for my last season ticket. If I could get a refund on my ticket at this point I would probably take it and just watch the odd game on the TV.

Walked out at 3 nil, even before the red it was a shameful effort from most of them. The club can’t moan about lack of fans on the ground when I drag my ass out after a day of work and no tea to witness that shite. Pathetic -

Big 3 points on the road, terrifying at the end but thankfully hung on. what on earth did he say to them at half time?!? -
Spot on Chaddy. If he did this every game we would be a lot further up the league

This sums my feelings up to at the moment. This time last year there was some ambition and a plan for a new style of football. Now it just seems like a rudderless ship with no destination in mind.
-
Good result yesterday and performance. Our first 11 is decent and especially when played in their best formation. Van Hecke looks a good signing and has impressed me with his performances. Special mention for Gallagher too who was MoM and barely put a foot wrong all game. Losing Nyambe again though is costly and not having a backup RB on the books is crazy!

yeah a decent summary here https://www.lancs.live/sport/football/football-news/blackburn-rovers-mowbray-response-form-21936604

Wow, didn't really think he was under much pressure but changed my mind after that press conference. Having a pop at the fans, dismissing the shitty record over the last year and stubbornly stating he will carry on messing about with formations/tactics to stop the opposition rather than play to our teams strength. It's quite right for the journalists to ask these questions, he just seems to get really defensive about it all and get condescending. We the fans want to know what the plan is, just surviving the season and selling our best players in January isn't a formula for any sort of success.

It makes you wonder what league we would end up if the FA/EFL eventually put in a wage cap as has been talked about in the past. I think the figures banded about have been 60-70% of turnover can be spent on wages as a maximum. These are the stats for the 19/20 season, we should be down a lot on that after releasing so many over the summer though. We would basically struggle to field a team to hit the 60/70% ratio, probably be an entire team made up of the under 23's! Either that or somehow magically increase revenues which under the current clown like ownership and management seems impossible.

I agree with the 2nd paragraph completely, it seemed a daft signing at the time given our lack of cash and how we needed to invest in the defence. But at the end of the day Tony spent the money and should have played and managed him properly. This was the forest award he won in his breakout season and the stats from his last season with Forest before he signed for us, got plenty of games. He played 600 and something league mins the first 2 seasons with us to give you an idea how little he played for us vs at forest. https://www.lfe.org.uk/news/ben-brereton-crowned-lfe-championship-apprentice-of-the-year/

If you spend £7m on a lad who just played a full season for Notts Forest and won the EFL young player of the year then in my view he starts every game for at least the first 20 games of that season. If not why bother singing him when we had pressing concerns in other areas of the pitch? What I wouldn't do is bring him on for 10 mins at the end of a game (probably when losing) and then see fans start classing him as appalling because he hasn't managed to score a hat trick in what little time he gets on the pitch. You could see his confidence drain away that first season with the way Mowbray managed him. With hindsight I bet Ben wished he stayed at Forest and got another full season or two in and he may have reached the point he is at now much sooner. Thankfully in the end its worked out and its wonderful to hear the 'Diaz' chants at Ewood after he bangs another one in.

Think we will bag a win on Saturday, always back us to do well at Ewood. If Lenihan and Nyambe are back then we should see the return of a solid backline unlike the last few matches. As others have stated its a bit of a unknown in attack without Brereton and Gallagher. Mowbray brought these loaners in for a reason though so expect Dolan then anyone of Kehdra, Butterworth and Poveda in the front 3. He has stuck Buckley up top before though so wouldnt surprise me if he did that again which is a waste of his talents. -
I suggest you learn to read... 18/19 Season - 677 mins on the pitch 19/20 Season - 608 mins on the pitch 20/21 Season - 2440 mins on the pitch 21/22 Season - 990 mins on the pitch (after 11 games) Don't let facts get in the way of your 'support' of the lad though.
-
Just a point on his first 2 seasons at Rovers, the manager barely gave him any game time and if he did then it was for the last 5 or 10 mins of a match. Whether the manager thought he wasn't ready or the Dack/Graham combo was a factor who knows. But I don't agree with people saying he was rubbish those first 2 season, he just never played anywhere near enough. In his first 2 seasons he played just over 600 mins in each one. This season he has already played just shy of 1,000 mins after 11 games. I personally feel the lad was given a hard time by the manager and a some of our fans in those first couple of years. Delighted to see him come good over the last season or so, not surprisingly when he actually starts games and builds up a bit of form and confidence.

Shows how thin the squad is when we lose anyone from the first 11. Lenihan not starting was a big miss but thought Carter did ok. Nyambe going off was a killer with Magloire having a stinker in his place. Rothwell goes off and you’re looking at a load of lightweight kids to replace him. All the subs made the team worse tonight. If you score 2 goals away you should be coming home with a point at least. -
Waggott's interview with media

Sounds really unlikely that we are gonna get these contracts signed, the club has thrown away loads of revenue now on players like Lenihan, BB, Rothwell and Nyambe. We might get a pittance as a development fee from a tribunal for some of them but it is mainly % profit of future sales, after 50 goals or some other daft measure. I don't think any of them will go on to bigger and better things meaning we lose millions on what we could have sold them for this summer. Shambolic administration of the club, these lads should have all been sold for cash this summer if they wouldn't sign. The squad for next season could be paper thin if it isn't already! -
Not at all. If you actually read the posts and stats its been a consistent message. He was lucky to survive last season, the current form is good and to enjoy the moment. It may come as a surprise to you but most fans actually enjoy winning games and picking up points.
