I don’t think I could cope with this and would be very nervous with the fullbacks inverted. I don’t know that it encourages them to stay any wider, and it definitely encourages us to play narrower. JDT had the good fortune of playing alongside probably the best left back ever, who happened to be right footed, but Maldini was exceptional. I think we rode our luck against Sunderland and Brittain looked uncomfortable defensively. Plus I’d like to see us put some crosses in as they seem really susceptible to them. I would like to see Hedges in the lineup somewhere though. Until Saturday I’d have wanted him at left wing back, but Pickering put in what was for me his best performance for us.

Relief today. Should’ve killed the game off several times, and while I’m delighted with the three points we will need a better performance next week. I’d have liked to see a more positive change earlier on, think Dack could’ve had an impact and we tried shutting up shop very early. We won’t get away with it every time. Vale showed some nice touches but disappointed with a lack of graft. Pickering was sensational today. Great for our goal, cleared one of the line, let nothing down his side. Head and shoulders the best performer.

Tomasson today… “We are trying to create a new chapter. We should look at it in a different way, we should look at the journey we’ve had so far and the performances.” I had hoped we’d head heard the last about journeys when Moany Tony finally buggered off.

I think giving Buckley a new 5 year deal 6 weeks ago suggest ls he’ll be part of that dressing room for a while yet.

The top point used to really bug me with Mowbray. It was always to our detriment when he inexplicably left Nyambe out for Bennett or Rankin-Costello. It’s ridiculous that Tomasson seems to be doing the same thing. Brittain should be starting every game he is at least 75% fit for at right back/wing back. Sticking any old player in at right back to “do a job” is what you’d expect to see in an under 14s game at Blacksnape, not at Ewood Park in the Championship. I don’t know why it seems to only happen with right backs, but it makes the managers who do it look weak for accommodating players, or just plain stupid.

Are Hedges and Gallagher expected to be fit? I hope so, both are a big miss at the moment.

I broadly agree, although he needs to try some new boots! His passing was woeful last night.

If they watched us last night who could blame them. Their wide players are really dangerous and if we approach the game like we did last night I think they will absolutely humiliate us. We need our best players in their natural positions, and we need them all to turn up to have a hope of taking anything from Turf moor. I don’t understand how we can turn in a defensive performance like we did at the weekend and then be as pathetic as is humanly imaginable 3 days later. On the flip side Brereton can definitely get in behind them. One thing is for certain, a performance like last nights against Burnley would be unforgivable.

When we are good, we are good. When we are bad we are absolutely woeful, hopeless, toothless, useless and clueless.

We would genuinely be better off sticking Ayala up front a la Hendry or Samba and lumping it long than persisting with Vale or Hirst.

Tonight is completely on the manager. It’s so utterly frustrating because we obviously have some good players and the ability to win games both pretty and ugly. Unfortunately I feel JDT has tried to be too clever for his own good, and then too stubborn to change things. This inverted wingbacks nonsense needs to stop immediately. We got away with it once largely due to Hedges, but it’s an absolute mess. Replacing Vale with Hirst was like swapping a yellow cone for an orange one. It was blindingly obvious we were losing tonight from about the 8th minute. There’s no excuses for a performance like that, and we shouldn’t be shrugging our shoulders and writing this off as a transitional season. Promotion is there for the taking. I’m almost as pissed off with the red card as I am with the manager, team and performance. Wasn’t even a foul, but obviously the powers that be want tackling consigned to the past and every team to make 3,000 pointless passes per game. There’s a good reason I watch barely any professional football that doesn’t involve Rovers.

If that is a red card I give up. Modern football is absolutely shite.
