  1. Agreed. I remember a game at Ewood where somebody in the Riverside bellowed at the top of his voice "YORKIE, you're not on the beach now...MOVE!!". He definitely heard it as he looked sheepishly towards the floor. Yorke had a few good games for us here and there in his first season. Villa away in the cup, Spurs away, but overall he was a disappointing buy and him being at the club didn't help Cole.
  2. A brilliant interview. Listening to that brings back so many good memories. It takes me back to a sunny last day of the season against Fulham in 2002 where Duff and Cole had a field day as we cruised to a 3-0 win. Good weather, good crowd, good football, happy days. Some of the football we played between 2000-03 was a joy to watch. Duff, Dunn, Tugay, Jansen, Cole. Then add in the battlers like Short, Berg, Neill, Flitcroft. We had a superb mix. That was evident with how we could both play and get stuck in. I love how Souness says "Oh, so you want to play that game, do you?", in relation to those wanting to rough us up, so he went and made sure we had an aggressive side to our game to stand up to that. That's a proper manager, proactive, brave and possessing a will to win. The man in the dugout today is so far on the other end of the scale to Souness it's unreal. We always had belief going into games back then and that was largely due to how Souness was. We had good players, yeah, but he instilled the right attitude. You knew he would be tearing strips off them when things weren't going well. There were no bullshit excuses, no "we can't compete with...". Heck, we squared up to probably the best Arsenal side around (a season before the invincibles) and did the double over them! The thought of that today would bloody terrify Mowbray and Waggott (Even with a hypothetical £300m budget). Try asking Souness if there are any positives to take out of a cup defeat to Morecambe and he'd probably want to rip your head off. The biggest take away from that interview is: we had a manager, a board and owners all pulling in the same direction and all wanting the best for the club. We have none of that today, and won't have that again until the whole lot of these gutless cowards are gone and new owners are in place. (Apologies for the long post, I can't help it when talking about those times)
  3. Disappointed about Obafemi apparently turning us down. This was one that I was excited about. It's no surprise though. It's hard enough getting good players to come here as it is, without taking into account who is doing the negotiating for us. He's going to throw money at a panic buy on the last day of the window again, isn't he?
  4. Has he no shame? We've just been embarrassed by a side that it would be unthinkable to lose against not so long ago, yet he wants to 'take the positives' out of it. Any manager worth his salt would be ashamed by that result, fuming and trying to keep a low profile. No way does a proper manager try and sugarcoat it in that way. It's an insult to read that headline. I couldn't care less how many formations we can switch to during a game. That means nothing if we don't win. As it is, his experiment with this 3 at the back started at the Southend game in 2017 and failed miserably back then. Four years later he's still experimenting with it! Take your experiment somewhere else. "We always deal with the result" he says. Yeah, shrugging your shoulders and saying "we move on to next week" is dealing with it. I've got to stop reading his interviews.
  5. We are going to have problems against teams that are physical and play a more direct game. I'd say most Championship teams play that way, or they at least have the option to switch to that approach. We don't have that, nor do we have the physicality to stand up to that approach, particularly in midfield. Millwall is a big test already to see how we fare. Not looking forward to it, but I'm hoping there's some sort of response to last night's embarrassment.
  6. Pathetic. Morecambe deserved the win in the end. We just can't cope against physical sides. There are plenty of those in the Championship. On that showing, they will have a field day against us. From 'bully boys' to this shambles today. This is what the holiday camp and nicely, nicely 'give everybody minutes' gets you. Mowbray out.
  7. Penalty to Morecambe. Dolan late challenge. 2-1 to Morecambe. Ridiculous!
  8. Magloire and Rothwell have gone off. Davenport and Gallagher on. Rovers gone to a 4-3-3 now. The words of Mark Atkins: "Morecambe were too good for Blackburn using that formation" (3-5-2). Worrying to hear Morecambe had it easy against that system.
  9. I don't know as only got radio commentary to go off.
  10. Morecambe have got two big physical strikers up against Carter and Magloire. Going to be a real test for the youngsters this half. This is from Radio Lancs commentary, by the way. No stream available anywhere tonight.
  11. Morecambe equalise. Sounds like poor defending from Lenihan for the goal.
  12. Same here, he's an exciting player. As soon as I saw him play for Southampton I said "he'd be good for us" to my dad (I tend to say that a lot though, ha). Never did I think we would actually be in for him, or even be linked with him, so I'm pleasantly surprised to see we could be getting him on a permanent deal. It's his pace and direct running that caught my eye. He's strong too. Yes, he only has four goals so far but I'm sure two of those came at Stamford Bridge and Old Trafford. There's massive potential in this signing and for me, there's a bit of a Bellamy vibe about this kid. Those who haven't seen him play will be surprised by how dangerous he is. Don't mess this up, Waggott.
  13. That was an enjoyable watch. Great to start off with a win and to see Gally and Brereton get off the mark on day one. I was happy to see us harry them, especially in the first half, and force them into making mistakes. Dolan played a big role in that regard. Need to do something about the finishing though, we can't keep missing chances like we did today. Maybe give Butterworth a go upfront at some stage. He looked sharp when he came on. It's early days, but Pickering already looks better than the two options we had at LB last season. Ayala looked assured today. He is a quality defender, it's just a matter of fitness with him. To cap off a good afternoon, Preston got thumped at home with Richie Smallwood getting a goal and an assist. Brilliant 😁.
  14. That makes it even worse. Just bury it man.
  15. What a miss from Rothwell! Superb pass to play him in from Butterworth. We never make things easy for ourselves.
  16. Get in Gally! Brilliant from Buckley to win the ball and loft a through ball to Brereton.
  17. We've started well. Pressing high up the pitch. Dolan had a shot saved after a good move.
  18. Mowbray dropping in 'his head's been turned' a couple of days ago said it all. Armstrong's time is done here. I'm glad to see Ayala starting as our young centre backs leave me feeling nervy. Bench looks shockingly thin. The loan signings, or any signings for that matter, can't come quick enough. Dolan down the middle by the sounds of it. The stubborn, predictable get. He'll never change.
  19. Sky, Talksport etc will cover Mowbray leaving. It might not be for long or in great detail, but they will cover it. I still remember Jim White on Talksport after Coyle was sacked. "Venky's, we're coming for you". Whatever happened with that? It was nothing but hot air. They tried to put it all on the owners in order to defend their mate. It will be the same with Mowbray. "Poor Tony, he was up against it, finances meant he could only sign kids on loan".
  20. I know of such a site for tomorrow, if it can be put forward. In terms of the game, I'm fully expecting Dolan to be played down the middle due to his pace. I'd be surprised if Gallagher is played centrally, even though that would be the most logical thing to do, as Mowbray tries to be too clever for his own good.
  21. What a mess we are in. From that interview it sounds like Mowbray wants to give new contracts to Nyambe, Lenihan and so on but is being prevented from doing so by the owners. He says he will seek to address that issue again with the club once the window shuts, but he almost sounds resigned to losing them next summer. I can see them trying to offload one or two in January at this rate. I dread to think what our side will look like come August 2022. It feels like all those silly loyalty contracts that were handed out in 2018, plus the wages wasted on the likes of Rodwell, Downing, Gladwin, etc have come back to bite him.
  22. That's Armstrong not playing on Saturday then. Imo, the 'his head's been turned' lark is just a convenient line that Mowbray is putting out there. With the talk of potential £15m-20m bids for him, I don't think they'll want to risk him picking up an injury.
  23. Idah or Obafemi have got to come in on a permanent deal. A loan only pushes the problem 12 months down the road. From looking at both players, Idah looks the better player, although Obafemi is rapid. £15m for Armstrong plus Idah on a permanent will do. Then we have to go about strengthening that defence and midfield, whether it's through loans or otherwise, because both areas look flaky right now.
  24. Is the new training gear available in store? I tried having a browse online earlier to see how it looks but there is no sign of any of it at all on the website. You'd think the club doesn't need any income based on how poorly everything is being managed. There are so many questions in relation to season tickets, match tickets, streaming, kits etc but no answers.
