v Morecambe (h) 10/08/21

Pathetic. Morecambe deserved the win in the end. We just can't cope against physical sides. There are plenty of those in the Championship. On that showing, they will have a field day against us. From 'bully boys' to this shambles today. This is what the holiday camp and nicely, nicely 'give everybody minutes' gets you. Mowbray out. -

Penalty to Morecambe. Dolan late challenge. 2-1 to Morecambe. Ridiculous! -

Magloire and Rothwell have gone off. Davenport and Gallagher on. Rovers gone to a 4-3-3 now. The words of Mark Atkins: "Morecambe were too good for Blackburn using that formation" (3-5-2). Worrying to hear Morecambe had it easy against that system. -

Morecambe have got two big physical strikers up against Carter and Magloire. Going to be a real test for the youngsters this half. This is from Radio Lancs commentary, by the way. No stream available anywhere tonight. -

Morecambe equalise. Sounds like poor defending from Lenihan for the goal. -

Same here, he's an exciting player. As soon as I saw him play for Southampton I said "he'd be good for us" to my dad (I tend to say that a lot though, ha). Never did I think we would actually be in for him, or even be linked with him, so I'm pleasantly surprised to see we could be getting him on a permanent deal. It's his pace and direct running that caught my eye. He's strong too. Yes, he only has four goals so far but I'm sure two of those came at Stamford Bridge and Old Trafford. There's massive potential in this signing and for me, there's a bit of a Bellamy vibe about this kid. Those who haven't seen him play will be surprised by how dangerous he is. Don't mess this up, Waggott. -

That was an enjoyable watch. Great to start off with a win and to see Gally and Brereton get off the mark on day one. I was happy to see us harry them, especially in the first half, and force them into making mistakes. Dolan played a big role in that regard. Need to do something about the finishing though, we can't keep missing chances like we did today. Maybe give Butterworth a go upfront at some stage. He looked sharp when he came on. It's early days, but Pickering already looks better than the two options we had at LB last season. Ayala looked assured today. He is a quality defender, it's just a matter of fitness with him. To cap off a good afternoon, Preston got thumped at home with Richie Smallwood getting a goal and an assist. Brilliant 😁. -

What a miss from Rothwell! Superb pass to play him in from Butterworth. We never make things easy for ourselves. -

Get in Gally! Brilliant from Buckley to win the ball and loft a through ball to Brereton. -

We've started well. Pressing high up the pitch. Dolan had a shot saved after a good move. -

Mowbray dropping in 'his head's been turned' a couple of days ago said it all. Armstrong's time is done here. I'm glad to see Ayala starting as our young centre backs leave me feeling nervy. Bench looks shockingly thin. The loan signings, or any signings for that matter, can't come quick enough. Dolan down the middle by the sounds of it. The stubborn, predictable get. He'll never change. -

Sky, Talksport etc will cover Mowbray leaving. It might not be for long or in great detail, but they will cover it. I still remember Jim White on Talksport after Coyle was sacked. "Venky's, we're coming for you". Whatever happened with that? It was nothing but hot air. They tried to put it all on the owners in order to defend their mate. It will be the same with Mowbray. "Poor Tony, he was up against it, finances meant he could only sign kids on loan". -

I know of such a site for tomorrow, if it can be put forward. In terms of the game, I'm fully expecting Dolan to be played down the middle due to his pace. I'd be surprised if Gallagher is played centrally, even though that would be the most logical thing to do, as Mowbray tries to be too clever for his own good. -

What a mess we are in. From that interview it sounds like Mowbray wants to give new contracts to Nyambe, Lenihan and so on but is being prevented from doing so by the owners. He says he will seek to address that issue again with the club once the window shuts, but he almost sounds resigned to losing them next summer. I can see them trying to offload one or two in January at this rate. I dread to think what our side will look like come August 2022. It feels like all those silly loyalty contracts that were handed out in 2018, plus the wages wasted on the likes of Rodwell, Downing, Gladwin, etc have come back to bite him. -
That's Armstrong not playing on Saturday then. Imo, the 'his head's been turned' lark is just a convenient line that Mowbray is putting out there. With the talk of potential £15m-20m bids for him, I don't think they'll want to risk him picking up an injury.

Idah or Obafemi have got to come in on a permanent deal. A loan only pushes the problem 12 months down the road. From looking at both players, Idah looks the better player, although Obafemi is rapid. £15m for Armstrong plus Idah on a permanent will do. Then we have to go about strengthening that defence and midfield, whether it's through loans or otherwise, because both areas look flaky right now. -

Is the new training gear available in store? I tried having a browse online earlier to see how it looks but there is no sign of any of it at all on the website. You'd think the club doesn't need any income based on how poorly everything is being managed. There are so many questions in relation to season tickets, match tickets, streaming, kits etc but no answers. -

The poster who mentioned rumours of club staff fearing administration could well be right. This feels like people at the club jumping ship before the crap really hits the fan. -

It's inevitable the way things are looking. Not only are the management of that standard, but also many of the players we are relying on this season are too. Look at what happened to Ipswich when they started to bring in League 1 players as a Championship club. They plummeted and haven't recovered. There isn't much experience or quality around this time to help us out when the going gets tough. -

I agree, that is solid business from QPR. They've managed to get two midfielders in that we were linked with in Dozzell and Johansen. Austin is quality at this level. I rate Odubajo too, I've wanted him at Rovers since his Hull days. I think they are going to be a dark horse this season. They've already battered United in pre season and had a 3-3 draw with Leicester. Start as you mean to go on. We're going to have to wait until this lot sell up before genuine optimism returns, I feel. -
2021/22 Pre-Season
SuperBrfc replied to Admiral Nelsen's topic in Blackburn Rovers Fans Messageboard
There was a spell in the 18/19 season where Travis looked quite good. The game at Newcastle in the FA Cup was the standout one for me. He was making driving runs and playing forward passes with intent. I remember thinking we have a player here. That version of Travis hasn't been seen since. Injuries may have taken their toll but I think it's due to the manager wanting him to play a safe, disciplined role. Mowbray wouldn't play Reed in the centre of the park because he wanted him to learn from Evans and Smallwood. He's turned Travis into a sideways player like those two, imo. -
2021/22 Pre-Season
SuperBrfc replied to Admiral Nelsen's topic in Blackburn Rovers Fans Messageboard
Our performance livened up when Rothwell, Buckley and Gallagher came on and we switched formation. I was just glad to see we still have some creativity because we were woeful up to that point. Happy to see Brereton firing and full of confidence. I think he's going to step up for us this season. We certainly need him to in order for us to keep us away from the drop zone. As for the defence, I've felt for a while that Magloire and Carter aren't good enough for the first team. I've not seen much recently to convince me otherwise. We can't seriously be relying on those two for a 46 game slugfest of a campaign. Magloire was twisted inside out today and he was beaten far too easily for their second goal. His passing leaves a lot to be desired too, which makes me wonder why the heck he was expected to step into the midfield today. We need to bring a couple of defenders in imo, but we'll be lucky if we manage to get one. It might be ambitious but I'd try and get Tuanzebe in on loan right away. Very good defender at this level and won't get a look in at United this season. If I was to guess though, I'd say we are probably going to go for Rhys Williams or Clarke-Salter instead.
