I don’t understand how passing sideways slightly more than at previous clubs is meant to be bad for a 30 year olds body, or ‘an extra workload’

Mowbray trending on my Twitter. Albeit 19th. A lot calling for him to go now.

Could Damien Johnson be any worse for 6 months? What frustrates the hell out of me is this fantasy that we can’t do better than Mowbray. He came to us as L1 fodder. He’s taken us as far as he can, and spent money without selling a name in the time! No previous managers had that luxury. We’ve a team which people looking from the outside think is good (for the Championship). Managers will WANT to come to us. Too much fear over Appleton, Berg, Kean and what Venkys will do. I was excited at the start of the season, thought top 6 was a realistic chance, injuries haven’t helped but it isn’t enough of an excuse. He has failed to address the defence, you could say we’re unlucky with injuries but Williams looked like he was on his way out and nobody expected Wharton to feature. The irony is that Nyambe was probably our best CB option on the pitch but got subbed to put Buckley in at RB. What the hell is that about, I can’t even visualise what it’s meant to achieve. Ironic that Saar scores both goals. Free transfer this summer wasn’t he? He had his favourites in the past and it took injuries / years of shite for him to change it (Bennett and Smallwood come to mind). It feels the same now with Johnson, we’ve played loads of games through December and I think he’s started every time, he has barely left the centre circle this month. Not fit enough for that challenge. Tony has helped stabilise us, I left some games feeling like we were brilliant (L1 level clubs and PNE) but it’s now 5 points from the last 21 available. Worse than the results though is the regression in our style of play. We no longer press high which is what defined the 433 formation. 2 months ago I went into games expecting us to win, and entertain. I tuned into this expecting nothing, I guess that’s where we are now.

Gally through the middle. Finishes one flagged offside and puts that tap-in in. He just isn’t a bloody winger.

Defenders are coming.....Johnson and Buckley being two of them. Ayala actually looked like he went to sit on the bench at first. Pulled a muscle -1 degree what are you doing? Get some treatment.
-
Oh god he’s going with Buckley right back again? Does he want potting?
-
So many issues with this team but Lenihan and Johnson are the 2 clear ones screaming out. Darragh is a walking red card every time he plays, and as someone mentioned above Johnson doesn’t have the legs for 3 in midfield. It’s affects the other midfielders around him.

Why on earth was Johnson marking Sarr. Do they work on set pieces? It’s comically bad.

Plenty of space on the pitch, which would suit Dack, be nice to see 45 mins from him. Maybe it’s a stretch though. Gutted for Trybull, from what I saw against Stoke/Brentford (before being pulled by Mowbray), he’s far superior to Johnson, more tempo and pressure on the opposition. Rothwell had a good half and Nyambe solid too. Bell isn’t playing like Carlos but still an improvement on Douglas.

We just need to give Armstrong 4 more chances and we’ll take the lead.

Was this mentioned anywhere prior to purchase? Such a shocking offering. Can you even get Huddersfield comms? EDIT: Just checked and you can get Home commentary so I guess that’ll have to do.
-
Well I’m glad for those changes. Johnson seems pretty undroppable though. Hope it’s Trybull holding and Johnson pushing on.

This is the first match I'm debating whether to pay or not. I think I will wait and see the starting 11 and make a judgement then. If Gallagher is plonked on the wing again / he continues with Douglas then I think I'll give it a miss. Will it be the end of the Mowbray 'death spiral'? I'm not holding my breath. The away match to Huddersfield at the same time last season was in the middle of a poor run (3 points from 6 matches). Good away day, shocking performance, and the last time I was at a game with my Dad and Brother.

This is 100% our best front 6. It’s just knowing the format it works best. I tend to agree, if it’s 433 that we’d be a little exposed with Dack in there. However I’d worry we’d lose the burst from Rothwell like we saw today if he’s deeper like this. Either way, these are the 6 I want to see when fully fit in the new year, and Johnson/Trybull for Travis until he’s back.

We create plenty of chances, as shown by the amount of shots he actually requires to put the ball in the net. (12 non-penalty goals now from 90 shots - 7.5 shots per goal) see below for team shots in the league. We create plenty, he just isn’t much better than a championship striker. I do agree with other posts though, he isn’t the issue here or today. Far more pressing areas which Mowbray is getting wrong (although I’m usually first to call out Armstrong)

- Worst I’ve seen Elliott play for us, first time though so no concerns here. - No more Douglas please, return him in January if we can. - Nice touches from Dack, if he starts CM then I imagine we lose our high press a little (feels like this has been gone for weeks mind you) - Great goal from Rothwell, he’s a mainstay in the middle now. - Holtby was brilliant in the first 5/10 weeks of the season but he’s really looked slow and average since then. Slows us down too much, perhaps should only start as our holding midfielder. E.g. did we need Johnson holding in this game? - Nothing to add about Mowbray that hasn’t already been said. I think those suggesting he can progress us to the next level need to open their eyes. This was our best chance for many years now and we’re sat mid-table half way through.

What a bizarre list of clubs. Why are we comparing to Luton, Wycombe, Coventry and Barnsley to a certain extent? They’ve spent majority of the time in L1 over the last 4 years. Wycombe comparison is laughable Regarding the others they’ve spent plenty of the last few years. Swansea just the £55m in the first year Mowbray was with us. Another £6m the year after. Of course they had to cut costs they were relegated 3 or so years ago. Cardiff £45m in 18/19 also been up and down so will inevitably cut some costs Preston are massively underfunded, and have been for a while. Their fans are always seething about it. If these clubs are making cuts it’s because of the ridiculous fees paid in previous years. We were all a bit worried about the £7m on Brereton and £5m wasted on Gallagher but Brereton is starting to look a bit better and we can cut our loses on SG and call that a loser but sell Armstrong for £15m (signed him for £1.5m?) if we were desperate. Where I stand is that yes he has had a nice budget since we came back up, but I also think he’s gained some assets which we haven’t sold (yet). Mainly Armstrong and Dack who both he signed for a couple of million would be £30m now (if Dack is the same player he was). We can’t hold it against him that he hasn’t had to sell players to make our net spend look nicer, that’s the owners doing as well. We CAN hold it against him though if he holds onto them AND also fails to progress us into the playoffs as a minimum. I think that’s fair now as at the end of the season we’ll have 2 years and 1.5 years out of our £12m investments.

Great news and hopefully shows the commitment to other players that we’re still intent on progressing, leading to them signing too (Nyambe primarily)
