The Summer Transfer Window (Press Submit)
Mercer replied to RoversClitheroe's topic in Blackburn Rovers Fans Messageboard
Whilst it's lovely engaging in banter whilst quaffing beer in the garden on this glorious summer's day, I now need to sort the BBQ as cooking for 8 in an hour's time by which time Szmodics might have gone!!! Enjoy your evening guys. -

Yours is the nonsense Tommy. If Rovers want to sell Szmodics, and maybe Waggott and Pasha do, if no one will pay the present asking price then Rovers will have to compromise. -

Do we not? Waggott and Pasha might! -

Irrelevant. If the house next to yours Chaddy is sold for say £200k it doesn't necessarily mean yours is worth £200k - might be worth more or even less - its value is what someone will give you for it. -

If the buyer is prepared to pay the price asked then that's the value, if not, asking price is overstated. Not sure why folk are struggling to understand a very simple concept. -

So if Rovers say he's worth £50million he's worth £50million!?!? It's nonsense, his value is what someone is prepared to pay. Anyone walking into a shop to buy say white goods and paying what the price tag says really does need to give their head a wobble! It's called bartering and I've never failed yet to get a discount whether it be from Currys, John Lewis, Sky or BT. -

Wharton was grossly under valued. I think it's reasonable to say Wharton was a distressed sale to keep the club alive. Palace had us by the balls as Ipswich may have come 20 August if the court case goes against the Raos -

No we don't have to sell Szmodics, however, the inescapable fact is his value is what someone is prepared to pay. -

Then Rovers are over valuing Szmodics as no one is prepared to pay the asking price. Simple as. -

and there you have just agreed with what I said! Your reluctant seller has hiked the price and if the buyer won't pay then the value is overstated - it really is simple. -

The value of a car, house, footballer, football club, business etc is what a buyer who has the means and will to complete on a transaction is willing to pay for it. It really is that simple. -

Don't think anyone would disagree under 'normal' circumstances. However, there has to be more to this than meets the eye. Did Szmodics sign his new contract with Rovers less than 12 months ago on the basis that he would be allowed to move to a PL club for £8/9million (where the 'core' deal now seems to be)? Seems that way and would explain Ipswich's first bid of £6million given their £15million deal for Delap and the £18million they were prepared to pay Hull for Philogene. Is all the p1ssing about due to Waggott, allegedly, again, tryiing to move the goalposts during a negotiation? -

Mercer replied to Herbie6590's topic in Blackburn Rovers Fans Messageboard
Would start with a strong 11 - at least for the first half by which time we could be 2 or 3 goals to the good and then make some changes. Agree with @philiplwould like to see Tyjon involved and if we are winning by 2 or 3 goals, give him half an hour or so. -

Don't be ridiculous. Certainly not a passer of the ball in the Tugay or Wharton mould but certainly not as bad as what you are intimating. The tip, tappety sh1te Mowbray wanted in our half of the field certainly didn't suit Travis. However, as I said, when he first broke through, he could certainly pick a pass offensively as he demonstrated last night with that ball to Brittain which led to our 1st goal. IMO, Mowbray shackled Travis and forced him into a role he wasn't suited to. Yet another player who regressed under Mowbray. -

Unbelievably good business getting rid of Gallagher - reckon Stoke will be ruing his signing by the end of September! As for Travis, he was excellent last night and as I have posted on here several times, when he first burst on the scene with Rovers he was a box to box midfielder capable of driving runs and the ability to pick a pass. IMO, his real ability was completely stifled by Mowbray and his career regressed badly. If the form he showed last night becomes the 'norm' then it would be madness not to keep him. -

Eustace gets his first home win in the league as Rovers' manager and delighted for him, players and the fans. Pluses: Started on the front foot with good intensity Gueye looks a real handful and much more useful and much more of a threat than Gallagher Ohashi took his goal superbly - showed great calmness and intelligence Szmodics showed what he was all about - terrific movement in the box to create the space and opportunity. Sadly, it looked as though he was saying goodbye to the fans at the end Thought Travis had his best game in the Rovers' shirt for some time - his driving run for our first goal reminiscent of when he first broke into the team Negatives: Pears - so unconvincing. Will cost us many goals and points unless replaced. Chris Sutton was brutally frank in the pre match stuff Defensively - conceded from two set pieces, better teams than Derby will punish us even more. We can't afford to be conceding 2+ goals per game again JRC looked lost - nowhere near as effective than when coming from deep Little creativity in midfield - missed Wharton, or player of that type, enormously Enjoyed the match, enjoyed my winnings on Rovers' win and time to uncork a nice red in celebration after the curry and beers. -

For goodness sake Chaddy, give it a rest. He was not in charge for the match - even the official Rovers' site said that. -

Aren't you merely repeating what Waggott said in his interview yesterday? Just shows how far the club has fallen when the height of our ambition is mid table in the Championship. That is the resultant of 14 years under the Raos and 7 years of Waggott. Chaddy does have an obsession or two! Add 'pacey winger' and 'JRC's new transitional role'! Posted on here a week or so ago, heard Eustace doesn't rate him. -

Aren't squad numbers announced today? Might be a tad insightful. As for captain, I honestly don't think Eustace knows which of Carter, Hyam and Travis will still be at the club when the window slams shut. Like all things Rovers, what a mess our club is in. Wouldn't give it Hyam as I think he's weak and gutless. I'd let Carter focus on his own game and not burden him with other responsibilities. That by default leaves Travis who has his limitations but at least wears his heart on his sleeve. -

A sign of the times - how Rovers treat loyal supporters and partners: “THE END OF AN ERA” For 35 years, Peter Jackson the Jeweller have presented a watch to the Man of the Match at every Blackburn Rovers home game. This year however, and with just four days until the start of the season, the club informed Peter Jackson that his services will no longer be required because they have found a sponsor who will pay “a significant sum” for the Man of the Match sponsorship. Fans of Blackburn Rovers will remember the Man of the Match award being presented to such illustrious figures as Alan Shearer, Chris Sutton, Brad Friedel, Colin Hendry, Tugay, David Dunn and too many other distinguished players to mention. As a great advocate for women’s football, Peter Jackson the Jeweller have also presented awards to the Player of the Match at every Blackburn Rovers Women’s home game for the last three years and have offered their continued support to the women’s team. Managing Director Peter Jackson said “ When I first approached Blackburn Rovers, the then commercial Manager and Rovers Legend Ken Beamish proudly showed me the Riverside Stand which had just been built. The Man of the Match was given a crate of beer and sent on their way. Jack Walker was investing huge amounts in the stadium and the Club and it was time for a change.” He continued “ Jack’s dream came true and the rest is history. Blackburn Rovers rose to the very top and then sunk to several low points during which most of their sponsors abandoned them, but we never gave up on the Club and have been there for them through the good times and the bad”. Over the course of 35 years, Peter Jackson the Jeweller have presented around 800 ‘Man of the Match’ awards and over 100 trophies at the End of Season awards ceremony, but more important is the thousands of Rovers fans and staff that have been welcomed to their store in the Blackburn Shopping Centre. “It has truly been an honour and a privilege” said Peter “to share so many wonderful occasions with fans, staff and players of the Club. We have been there for weddings, birthdays, anniversaries and graduations and have had the pleasure of supplying engagement rings to couples whose parents bought their engagement rings from us.” “I am disappointed and sad to see that money now takes precedence over relationships, community and friendship, but Peter Jackson the Jeweller wishes Blackburn Rovers every success and we will always be there to offer the people of Blackburn and beyond our watches and jewellery service.” Peter has asked anyone who wishes to make their view known to write to Steve Waggott, Chief Executive at Blackburn Rovers FC or email enquiries@rovers.co.uk Peter Jackson can also be contacted at peter@peterjackson.co.uk -

and therein lies an issue. Seems Szmodics has missed so much of pre season (training and matches) that he's not fit - involve him and run the risk of him doing a groin / hammy / calf which could sideline him for weeks (potential sale gone). It's mismanagement of the highest order and sadly we are now between a rock and a hard place. -

Eustace on SS "At the moment, he hasn't trained or played for the last three or four weeks. We have to protect the lad as well". What a terrible state of affairs and utter madness. Should be number 1 on Waggott's to do list. Needs to be locked in a room with Mark Ashton from Ipswich and neither leave until a compromise is agreed. You simply cannot run a business like this nor treat key employees in this manner. -

But this has been bubbling along for days. Deal should have been closed well before Marseille made their move. There simply aren't any excuses - IMO, yet again, an indefensible cock-up. -
