  1. I would love to see the assumptions and metrics behind Rovers' pricing (I'll stop short of calling it a strategy) - I suspect there are none other than a discarded fag packet! Managing your pricing strategy is a key way for any organisation, whether it be in manufacturing. retail, service or entertainment, to improve it's bottom line. Sadly, in the Ewood corridors of executive management, I think there are only vacuous and nous free zones.
  2. Saturday steak night! Goes down even better when Rovers win. Had an excellent red (Domaine de la Baume Elite d'Or Cab Sauv/Marselan) which was spicy and didn't half pack a punch and a great accompaniment to steak. The missus picked it up and we thought it was terrific for £12/13. And you?
  3. PNE: Lowe was an excellent appointment - an excellent organiser and motivator and done a great job in just 10 months. Stoke: Neil an excellent manager - will be no surprise if he gets Stoke into play offs this season Watford: Doubt Bilic will make it until the WC starts. Never rated him - a busted flush now. WBA: Think they'd like to fire Bruce but can't afford to pay-off him and his mates
  4. If we play and we are crap then there is no point in glossing over it. If we put on a decent show and get a result then everyone is happy. It's a results' industry. That is the reality.
  5. Well done Rovers - a much needed win. A crazy, crazy league - level pegging for 6th and 3 points off top two. If we can only find some consistency outside the bizarre wlwlwlwlw results sequence. Dilemma - DW on Tuesday (freebie offer but oh that bloody sequence with a loss due next) or feet up in front of Sky Tv with a nice bottle of wine!
  6. Perplexing selections. Third game in a week for Ayala - a big ask. Would have 'saved' him for Wigan and played Carter today. As for Hedges at rwb instead of Brittain, unfathomable - this is really square pegs in round holes Mowbray territory. Staggered Dack does not start and Szmodics does. JDT should have been brave, axed Travis and started both Adam Wharton and Morton. I think our manager is leaving himself wide open to criticism today if it all goes t1ts up. Concerns are growing................
  7. It's ironic that Rovers' best run under Mowbray (first half of last season) coincided with Mowbray's abandonment of a possession based game last season! It's all feckin nonsense - which football team WOULD NOT want possession!?!? It's what you actually do with the feckin ball when you have it that counts.
  8. At the end of the day Chaddy we are all ardent Rovers' fans wanting the best for the club, wanting good performances and results and wanting the club to be plying its trade in the PL. Some of us are far more cynical and do not swallow all that comes out of the club, a good part of which is, IMO, bullsh1t for fan consumption and pacification. Head Coach: To me the jury is well and truly out. Already, I have serious concerns about JDT's overall game plan, tactics and selections. Our performances verge from the occasional relative sublime to the more frequient abysmal. IMO, we have 6 points more than our performances warrant. DOF: You say "so far has delivered and done good"! Brittain and Hyam look decent signings. Morton looks decent but, IMO, should be behind Adam Wharton in the pecking order (I'd play both and leave the overrated Travis out). Looks like Posh have pulled our knickers down over Szmodics, Mola has it all to do and Hirst, well, well, well, our first choice striking target who we chased all summer but he can't score in the Championship! To cap it all, Buckley gets a new 5 year deal which I could understand if he'd been ripping it up but he's been absolute cr@p this season. To me, Broughton is no more than a 3 out of 10 mark at the moment. As far Williams and a new Head of European Scouting, let's see what they deliver first. In previous scouting capacities with clubs, what gems has Williams unearthed? Invariably, the proof of the pudding will be in the eating. Not going to the game tomorrow as I would need 4 tickets and I'm not prepared to shell out £120 to watch some of the cr@p which has been served up this season.
  9. It's all about quality of personnel - pay peanuts and you get monkeys!!!
  10. I think you are absolutely right and therein lies the problem!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Hope that hasn't gone over your head!
  11. Nailed it! Football is a simple game unless perhaps you are Mowbray or JDT.........................
  12. Jansen - and your point is? Gestede - 9 goals more than Hirst then!!! Hirst at Rotherham - tying yourself up in knots here! Many, many strikers are best known as 'impact subs' - bring them on and they score goals, a great example being David Fairclough at Liverpool. Seems like Hirst can't score in the Championship whether it be starting a match or from the bench - just wtf is he about? Rovers' recruitment - well if Hirst has been the number one target all summer and he's the best they can come up with then I'd sack the feckin lot of them - think Jack would have! Beyonce - age is a number young man. Still gobsmacked you would choose a dinner date with Liz Truss over Beyonce!
  13. BBD didn't look great at first but bloody hell, I think it's plain that at 24 Hirst is no great shakes and never, ever will be. I agree, it can take a few matches for a player to find his feet and blossom but even in their first game there is usually something which suggests there's a bit of talent there whether it be movement, positional sense, vision, passing / shooting / heading / tackling abilities, mobility/speed, aggression etc but feckin hell, IMO, Hirst has shown absolutely zilch so far. I've seen enough football over 60 years to recognise the good, the bad and the ugly and I think Hirst is as ugly as it gets - I've seen enough of him and I think he's hopeless. Jansen and Davies had both shown their abilities in the PL before joining Rovers. Gestede had shown he could do it in the Championship. Formica / Rochina - IMO, joke and scandalous signings. Hirst - 40 Championship appearances and no goals. At 24 years of age, how much confirmation do you need that he will not cut it at Rovers. I will be delighted if he proves me wrong, sets the Championship alight and fires the goals to take Rovers to the PL. However, I think there's a better chance of me taking Beyonce to dinner this week (best of luck in your desire to take Liz Truss to dinner by the way!).
  14. Chaddy, think comments by @RoversTilliDieare tongue in cheek! However, I think it's quite clear Hirst has a very small fan club and you may well be the founding and only member! In some 60 years of being a Rovers' fan, Hirst is right up there with the worse centre forwards I've seen in blue and white. Feckin he'll even Big John O'Mara (similar build and style) got goals for us and I think he was widely regarded as a donkey by Rovers' fans.
  15. Rotherham on Saturday wont be easy but feckin hell, we should be on the front foot, in their faces and go on to win the game. Would go with 4 at the back and there would be no places for Ayala, Travis (think he's vastly overrated)and Hirst (think he's just useless and at 24 the writing has to be on the wall. ) . KaminskI / Brittain, Hyam, S Wharton, Pickering / Morton, A Wharton / Hedges, Dack, Brereton / Gallagher Dack MUST start - quite simply you just know he will make things happen and he will get in the right places in the box to give himself an opportunity to notch. As manager, I would be telling him he starts the next 5 games and needs to prove there is still something in his locker to offer. It really is time to either sh1t or get off the pot. The Dack question needs answering.
  16. I could sink 10 out of 12 putts on local pitch and putt course. Could I sink 10 out of 12 at Augusta - could I feck. Different circumstances, different standards, different pressures - a huge difference for Hirst. 40 Championship appearances and not a single goal. There is a reason - think he's clearly donkey.- makes Ashley Ward look like Haaland!
  17. I'm beginning to think we've just got a 'nicer' version of Mowbray. Some signings and his tactics and selections are baffling. I actually think our points return of 18 is about 6 points more than our performances have merited. We've won games we didn't really deserve to yet I can't think of games we've lost and thought 'we were unlucky there, we deserved something from the game'. Very worrying times. As a club, we shoot ourselves in the feet - seemingly, by insisting our new manager takes on Johnson, Lowe and Benson. Our 1st team coaching set-up needed a complete clear out - I think Johnson, Lowe and Benson are a big, big part of the problem and I just don't see what value they bring to the party.
  18. I very much doubt Hirst will get anywhere near the number of goals Bell, Quinn and Thompson scored in their relatively illustrious careers in comparison to Hirst. I have seen absolutely nothing in Hirst to suggest there's even a hint of a player in there and God help us if he was our number 1 summer target. There is a reason he didn't score in 36 appearances at Rotherham and there is also a reason why he started many games there on the bench. I don't rate Vale and I don't even think Hirst is better than Vale. Scary times and a reportedly agreed £5million fee to make the loan permanent. I think someone is having their p1sser pulled even harder than when it was pulled by Posh for Szmodics.
  19. The lad looked terrified (the look of those who miss vital pens in games that go to pens) - senior pros or the captain should have stepped in and stopped him taking the pen.. He was clearly distraught after missing, however, he gets paid big bucks and with that comes big responsibilities. I have no sympathy for him. As the saying goes, if you can't stand the heat then stay out of the feckin kitchen
  20. In days gone by when we'd signed a donkey of a centre forward, Alf Thornton would write 'showed some nice touches' in his match report - diplomacy for donkey / w@nker.
  21. Utter rubbish. Got what we deserved - feck all. Penalty should never have been given as never a free kick that led to it. Why the feck let Hirst take it - miss might finish him as a Rovers' player if ever he was going to be a player. Selection appalling. How can you leave Wharton S out and how the hell is Buckley better than Wharton A. A feckin joke Buckley given a new 5 year contract - think the lad's a joke player. Szmodics - we've spunked an awful lot of money up the wall. Painfully obvious our starting midfield not up to it. Utterly punchless. A dire, dire night. Serious concerns for me now about JDT
  22. So refreshing after, IMO, the turgid and sourpuss, dinosaurial Mowbray.
  23. The penny still hasn't dropped Chaddy has it? Rovers WANTED Sepp van den Berg but he went elsewhere. My understanding is Gibson WANTED Dyche and he was top of his wanted list but seemingly he wont be going there and will be going elsewhere - when I first posted on this I strongly caveated it would be a big IF as the geography didn't work for Dyche. With the greatest respect to you and 'most people' you refer to, I am very confident Dyche was the number one target given where this information came from. As we know from bitter experience with Rovers' managerial serach, you might have targets but you fail to land them. It's very simple and if you can't understand that then I am sorry.
  24. I'll let you do the figures Gav but would not surprise me if Brentford's NET spend is much different to Rovers - they are expert at buying, selling then buying again. Edit - also, just seen Hasta's post on Forest, says it all.
  25. Rated Cooper until now. Seems to have completely lost the plot. How on earth you can make so many signings (20+)when promoted and expect to both maintain a harmony with those who got you up and form a cohesive unit so quickly to compete in the PL is beyond me. They look a rabble and would be surprised if Cooper survives the week. Dyche would be a super appointment for them.
