v Luton Town (a) - 17/9/22

I can't recall Harrison ever missing a penalty! This guy had everything other than mental toughness. He debuted at just 16 for Chelsea and I think he averaged about 1 goal every 4 games for Rovers and for a winger that's a great return. Luton fans loved him when he went there and he was seen as a catalyst in their promotion from the old 3rd Division (now League 1). Sadly, he suffered from numerous thigh problems in his latter career, unsurprising given those huge muscular thighs, and his career just petered out. -

Helluva a penalty taker as well! -

Shame Harrison didn't have the 'hardness' or aggression of Mike 'Fergie' otherwise he'd have been a world beater. -
Chateau Queyret Pouillac is presently on sale at Booths for just £7.50/bottle. It's a wine which has 'plenty to say about itself'. A bit of a marmite wine - some love it, others wonder why. Widely retailed at about £10/£11 bottle so at just £7.50 think it's well worth a punt.

Hugely disappointing. Big concern is our inconsistency - from the sublime (Watford) to the ridiculous (Luton). Physically and mentally we seem to struggle from one game to the next - as does our manager! Today only confirms what many of us have been saying for yonks - we need an ugly hard b@st@rd in midfield who can also play a bit. WTF JDT and Broughton couldn't see this is beyond me. I think it's clear either JDT doesn't rate Dack or his two horrible injuries have finished him as a force - let's remember JDT sees Dack in training every day. Think it's inexcusable for him to remain on the bench for the duration particularly when we are struggling and we need a spark - if he's nothing to offer then what is he doing there!? Many of us were sceptical about the signing of Hirst - seems our worse fears have been confirmed. As for Amari Bell, IMO, another example of a player not allowed to fulfill his potential at Rovers through Mowbray's idiotic man management and tactical idiocy. Solace will have to be sought tonight in a nice bottle of red or two! -

Assuming we've no more injury problems, and not seen any reported, I am hugely confident about a Rovers' win. Yep, Luton will most likely be physical, however, we've got the players available now to more than match them and it would be no surprise to see Hirst start given his big physical presence. It would also be no surprise to see at least 1 red card. Rovers at 5/2 is terrific value - fill yer boots. More than 2.5 goals has also been profitable for me in Rovers' games this season and at 13/11, I'll be having a piece of that as well. Good luck to those Rovers' fans going, I don't think there's a stadium I hate more than Kenilworth Road. -
If there's going to be no more, I'll leave that one for you to enjoy! Will have a look at Chapel St Wines when next in Lancaster - always interested in what such retailers have to offer!

Terrific performance and result. Undoubtedly, Ayala and Wharton gave us the rock steady foundation. If these two and Hyam can stay fit then who knows..........dare to dream! A nice little earner, a nice glass of wine and it's goodnight from me. -

Can't call this without first seeing our line-up. If Ayala and Wharton back, think we might just sneak a win. If I like the look of our line-up will have a flutter on Rovers who are currently a shade better than 2/1. -
Is it stocked anywhere locally (10 mile radius of Brockhall)?

Glad it ticked the boxes. It's the citrus that's dominant, perhaps a hint of apple. It's what I term a 'quiet' white - quite subtle. White or red, much prefer those wines at the dry end of the spectrum.

R.I.P. QUEEN ELIZABETH
Mercer replied to SIMON GARNERS 194's topic in I Can't Believe It's Not Football
"You don't know what you've got until it's gone" (from the song Big Yellow Taxi) will prove to be quite apt I feel. I think many people are now starting to realize just how special our Queen was. The terrific tv coverage has helped to reveal 'the unseen Queen'. Elizabeth the great, RIP. -
Do you mean Amarguinha? Terrific with ice and a slice of lemon.

Restapiee Cola - it's a local brand, just ask if you don't see it on display. -

All dates back to the General Strike back in 1926 when the Wigan miners were amongst the first to throw in the towel and go back to work meaning they had to 'eat humble pie'. Notwithstanding that there genuinely does seem to be a love of pies in the Wigan area - there are a big number of shops selling pies and pies are also a standard offering in all the local cafes etc. In the 1990's Wigan also hosted the 'World Pie-Eating Championships' and from memory did so for a number of years. Had family who lived that way for a number of years and I think it's fair to say those from Wigan are a rare breed! -
Sounds lovely! With a 'fish pie' style dish, we would go for a white burgundy. Think Waitrose stock some excellent wines in terms of quality and value and often have a good selection on offer ranging from 25% to 33% for a single bottle purchase (buy 6 and you get an extra 5%). We've had a couple of bottles of Louis Latour White Burgundy from Waitrose (sub £20) and it worked well with the 'traditional' fish pie. If you want to save a few quid you could try Macon-Villages Louis Jadot from Booths which is a pretty good alternative. Booths also generally have some decent quality wines on single bottle offer.

Come across both Sodexo and Compass (catering facilities management companies) on many occasions over the years. Fair to say not a fan and based upon personal experiences would generally rate both in the 3 to 6 out of 10 range. Tend to do better at the more prestigious events (Compass do Wimbledon). IMO, given the nature of the beasts, unsurprisingly things go awry in venues like Rovers. -

He's 21 and should be showing much, much more. He's just not good enough - there's no spark there in fact I don't think there's anything at all. If you are good enough then you are old enough as Phillips and Wharton have proved. -
Enjoy! Don't recall having had a red from the Cloy du Roy 'estate' but have had a Sancerre they do - though not my favourite white, it was pretty unusual and surprisingly enjoyable. Their wines do enjoy a very good reputation.

Trouble is Gav given all the sh1te of the last 12 years, one can get carried away with rare moments of delirium (Wednesday night). Don't worry, still in credit on Rovers this season and I think I will be going in heavy on Wigan next week with also a cheeky little bet on Nyambe as an anytime scorer! Hope you have a bottle of Whispering Angel to bring you some comfort tonight - for me I'll be hitting the full bodied reds! -

At 2.00pm desperately disappointed I couldn't make the game today (after Wednesday's performance which fair whet the appetite) due to work commitments, come 5.20pm, feckin delighted I couldn't! Based on what I've read and heard from some who went, we were sh1te. Many of us thought we didn't do enough in the window and that seems patently clear. Injuries are hurting us but are part and parcel of the game and it's why you need a squad with both depth and quality. Most of us thought we need strengthening in the full back positions and that is as clear as day. Many of us thought we needed a physical hard b@stard to boss midfield and that is as clear as day. Many of us thought we needed strengthening up front and were sceptical about Hirst who hasn't netted in the Championship after 30+ outings and he doesn't seem to have impressed today and many of us didn't think Vale 'had it' at this level - concerns confirmed today. It is a concern JDT seems to get it totally wrong so often but at this stage, I'll give him the benefit of the doubt given the absolute crock of sh1te of a hand I think Mowbray dealt him. I am puzzled why Dack was hooked, unless injured, as we need all the quality we can get on the grass and as I've posted before, we need to know what Dack has got left in his locker. As for Broughton, hope I don't bump into him this weekend because, to me, he aint delivered as he should. -
Anyone looking for a very decent red which suits the occasional wine drinker right through to the more discerning wine drinker then consider a bottle of Baglio Gibellina U Passimiento (Sicilian). As far as I know, not stocked in the supermarkets but available in some independent wine shops (including Whalley) and online. Typically priced between £10/12 bottle. Full bodied, smooth and full of flavours - even better when partnered with food (especially pasta and spicy meat dishes). The more discerning wine drinker might pick-up a slight sweetness. You will want more than one glass!

Think the camp must be buzzing after Wednesday's win at Blackpool, with BBD still here and Dack on his way back. Supremely confident about tomorrow and can't see beyond a Rovers' win and have lumped on at 6/5. COYB.
