Jon Dahl Tomasson - no longer Sweden coach
Mercer replied to Tom's topic in Blackburn Rovers Fans Messageboard
Fully agree. JDT is a gem. A super coach and an excellent personality to front our club. The Raos will never, ever, have a better chance with JDT at the reins to return to the promised land. Just feckin back him to the hilt. It's a no brainer. -
Fantastic result! Super, super goal from Hedges. Pears did what he needed to do, Hyam and Carter rock sold. Wharton oozes class even though not one of his best games (still catching up on fitness), Travis more like it again though a bit surprised he seemed to be running out of steam mid second half. Dolan -I'll drive this lad wherever he wants to go, oh so feckin woeful. Moran, want to see more of, promising and has something. JDT - Raos, Suhail - just back the feckin man; he's a gem and could get you back a big part of the money you've spunked away through, IMO, your naivete and incompetence. As for Watford - they'll have a new manager by the time they play again.
-
Don't think we can afford to wait. The lad has a full cap with Sweden. Pears is so unconvincing and, IMO, was at fault with both goals against Hull. Kaminski would have saved the first whilst Pears' indecision and poor judgement left him in 'no man's land' for the second. It's a no brainer.
-
I didn't say I was and I didn't need to be to make those general comments about the players concerned or, IMO, the ownership / executive mangement state of abyss. I have seen the highlights and it was clearly combination stuff from Pickering and, IMO, Pears not convincing on either goal - Kaminski would have made the save for the first goal and would have been far more decisive for the second goal instead of being hopelessly stranded.
-
Nailed it. You can pull 11 lads in from Pleasington who will give their all for 90+ minutes - that is the minimum requirement and no plaudits for 'the lads who ran their hearts out', it's scores on the doors that count. Pears never the answer and unconvincing, Brittain was signed as a rb so ffs play him there and move JRC into midfield, Pickering not up to it and never was (combination stuff way he dealt / didn't deal with that through ball), Travis has his moments but so infrequent and as for Dolan and Gallagher............................................... Think it's going to be a long hard winter. Think JDT will be gone by Christmas and words simply fail me where the Raos, Waggott and Suhail are concerned. In 60+ years supporting Rovers there have been a fair old number of lows. However, this is different era as worryingly, IMO, our present owners and senior executive management are passionless and simply don't care. In the past, we may not not have had a pot to p1ss in at times, but there was a real passion there from the likes of Bancroft, Keighley, Brown and even Fox and obviously Jack himself who must be spinning in his grave at the wanton destruction of his beloved Rovers. Pre season optimism rapidly evaporating.
-
Think we've enough to beat Hull at home at this stage of the season. Rovers by the odd goal. Every man and his dog knows we need need to improve in both depth and quality before this window shuts - if we don't, mid table with JDT still in place at Christmas would, IMO, be a result.

Absolutely feckin delighted tonight. Will be cracking open a couple of fine reds with dinner. Leonard is going to be a big, big player and star. Hopefully, many on here will now know why I was banging on about him last season and wanted to see him start (he could have been the difference..............................). -

Craig was a clever footballer. The problem with him was that milk turned quicker! I remember the 'worldie' he once scored at Ewood going from the half way line before hammering into the top corner. A week later bumped into him at Spread Eagle, Mellor and bought him a pint. -

We really need a win to get us up and running quickly. Said it time and time again, this league is all about confidence and momentum. Rovers to nick it by the odd goal with Leonard hailed as the all conquering hero. -

If it's known they are offski then such an action before any announcement is crass mismanagement. Sadly, I think crass mismanagement is now a Rovers' way of life. -

From memory, and it's a bloody long time ago, a tea cake did have raisins in - my mum and dad loved them toasted for breakfast. Other 'delicacies' I can recall from those tender years include tripe and chips, tripe and onions and cow heel pie! Happy days! -

Many didn't like Alf Ramsey's style of play (wingless wonders) but we won the World Cup in 1966!!! Most fans don't give a flying feck if we have 30%, 50%, 70% or 90% possession or complete 200, 400, 600 or 800 passes. They just crave success and want to be in the Premier League. Let's be blunt, some of JDT's football was boring and cr@p - don't talk about style - and it didn't deliver at the business end of the season with very poor results. I would rather have a manager who wears his emotion on his sleeve rather than a morose Mowbray type who, IMO, at times, looked and behaved as though he didn't give a toss on the touchline / in the dug out. If Jones could get us to the PL every single supporter should rejoice including yourself. -

Feel sure many Saints' fans will be underwhelmed by Martin's appointment. Just what has he achieved as a football manager? Did he take MKD up - no. He joined Swansea for the 2021/22 season after the club had just finished 4th in the Championship and he followed that up with 2 lower end league/midtable finishes. What he has done to earn a crack at Southampton is beyond me - just thankful if JDT does leave we wont have Martin as a replacement. I would be very surprised if Martin lasts the season at Saints. As for Jones as Rovers' head coach - done superbly at Luton in two spells but poor at Stoke and he was, IMO, a tad unlucky at Southampton (wrong appointment at the wrong time). Folk including you Chaddy, get obsessed with possession based football. It means feck all unless you do something positive with the ball when you have it like score some goals, win football matches from both losing and winning positions and get promoted! Burnley, Sheff U (auto promoted) and Coventry and Luton (play off finalists) all have a physicality, an aggression, a fighting spirit and a will to win to supplement when they have possession of the ball. It's no coincidence the possession based teams like Rovers, Sunderland and M'boro have been blown away. You need a particular type of manager to get out of the Championship - Jones ticks the boxes, Martin doesn't and very possibly JDT doesn't. -

It can be - not rocket science. We all knew what we needed in the Jan. window - think Broughton failed big time otherwise we'd be up by now. Simples! -

Bottom line is we need a manager to get us up. Jones did the spade work at Luton - an excellent Championship team. If he could complement what we have with some aggression, physicality, will to win and bottle, he'd feckin do for me! Whether he can do it in the PL - let's get there first. I -

IMO, Martin is a w@nker and not for us. Will bomb at Southampton just as Nathan Jones did (wrong appointment at wrong time). -
Nathan Jones followed by Russell Martin - God strewth. Think the lunatics are in charge of the asylum!
-
The Hull game really sticks in my throat. We'd just mullered Huddersfield in the 2nd half to come back from 2 down to almost win it so JDT instead of starting with the same 11 who played so superbly in that 2nd half at Huddersfield (as most managers would) totally fecked it up with his selections and tactics. JDT has a lot to answer for in those last 10 games with his selections and tactics - found wanting when it really mattered. You are absolutely right about the players though - not enough leaders or 'scumbags' who would instill some spine and bottle into the others.
-
Margins in football between success andthe 'also rans' are fine - Coventry are in the final and may well end up in the PL; we aren't - it's that simple.
-
It is - no one to blame but ourselves because we fecked everything up so badly including the transfer window. I think everyone at Rovers should hang their head in shame. Robins and Edwards have done terrific jobs at those two clubs. Their teams are well organised, hungry, physical and aggressive. What's more they have bottle. They are everything we aren't. Rovers' position is indefensible. Fed up of reading crap that we are punching above our weight, we can't compete financially - it's all sh1te. We are almost a shambles from top to bottom and that's why we've fecked it up so badly this season. There are no excuses. It's just the simple truth of the matter.
-
They feckin must be to have appointed Nathan Jones! As for Russell Martin - I think the lunatics have really taken over if they appoint him. I'd give it to Coyley before him! I
-
He is a wanker - pity we don't have one or two of those in our ranks to give us an edge.
-
You are right. We had a great chance this season and fecked it up so badly.
