Even if it would take 1 minute of football to put Mafoumbi on, if hes nowhere near good enough. It means taking up a space on the bench that could go to someone else who actually could contribute, it means saving a sub (and one of 3 potential windows) to potentially use him, and if there is one goal either way or if the game is level you are then prioritising registration technicalities over the game. And its a bit humiliating for him to do that and then he goes back to being in and out at under 21 level. I wouldnt be comfortable doing that. Should just have been paid up at the start of the summer as an acceptance that we should never have signed him.

This has already been widely discussed on here by our 2 resident experts Wilesden Rover and KentExile and that seems to be their consensus. We're less sure if anyone at the Club is aware of this but they should be by now if they keep tabs on this Forum.

It is insane, without wishing to defend them maybe that batshit crazy policy was imposed to cover situations where we had the windfall sale of a particularly valuable player like Wharton or Szmodics with the thinking being the budget for the following season could be upped slightly. It's a bit different when at least half the starting X1 are just walking out for relatively modest fees. There has at least been some acknowledgement now that we need a RW and replacements for anyone else who leaves albeit we're still waiting and anyone who comes in will probably be a lot cheaper and theoretically inferior.

Why would you have any faith in Gestede to learn lessons? Do you have any faith in him? There were obviously slots available. My point is, for a club with seemingly grand plans of looking abroad, knowing that a lot of players will subsequently need these slots, especially at the prices we are paying, you wouldn't tie any up for players who arent first teamers.

Glen on the podcast was told that the budget was set. It was set on the basis of not needing to make any sales. However, it was subsequently asked whether there was an agreement with owners to reinvest the funds of any player sales. Suhail said there was no agreement and he had never asked that question. It's insane - £5m and that may need to cover 4/5 players or 11 first team players based on sales...but any income is irrelevant.

If we do happen to make any sales those funds go back to the owners and are not made available for reinvestment in the side. Doesn't make any sense whatsoever but then what does under this regime?

The error the club made was not sticking him on the bench in the first few weeks of last season and giving him his debut, therefore meaning he would have earned a standard work permit last January

Had the Mafoumbi signing taken up the final slot, i'd then agree with you. However, correct me if i'm wrong, there were other slots available at the time so in order to bring in a potential talent, they gave him a slot. Had we refused and a rival club came in and done the same and Mafoumbi went on to become a big talent, we'd be frustrated at the club for not giving it a go. The situation now is that he was given a chance, it hasn't worked out, we're releasing him to make the slot free. I don't really know what else the club could have done in this situation other than what they've done.

Reckon that's where the staff will be told to bring torches, soap, water and a coat in future as we've switched off utilities to save money.
