I can only assume that they mistakenly think that McLoughlin is capable cover/competition for Wharton in the middle, and that they already had Miller & O'Riordan for the right, so they wanted someone to compete with Pratt on the left Personally, I would have gone for someone who could play in the middle, and have McLoughlin competing with Pratt on the left (Pratt would wins hands down for me, but it now feels like he will struggle for game time as they will have assured Brighton that Cashin will play no matter what)

Bit in bold… In its own way it’s impressive to create a squad which is better in 3-5-2 whilst signing players you intended for 4-2-3-1.

I’d actually take Bishop as a backup striker. A goal every 240 minutes last season in this league is better than Ohashi. Before that he scored 41 goals in 2 seasons in league one and won Pompey player of the season. (A goal every 180 mins). Clearly having a bad year this year.

We'll probably end up with worse than the likes of Colby Bishop
