Wonder what Derby fans make of him, he was on the ropes before they winning run and he did well to keep them up last season but given what they spent they may be slightly under performing. Having said that they are only 6 points off 6th with some pretty average teams above. It’s a weird league as ever where it feels there’s a couple of standout teams then a whole host of teams that can put a run together but can be beaten by anyone else

Alan Nixon's ego would grow even bigger if he heard anyone say that this thread would be dead without his rumours. Its a thread of opinions. What do people think we need, where we are short, which players we would sell etc. And as and when players are signed and let go, what people think. Its hardly reliant on Nixon gossip. The Cleary rumour didnt even start with him.

I am not contesting that we have bid for Cleary. I will assume that we did. But we havent signed him, the bid was not at an acceptable amount so it doesnt mean anything. Until if and when we sign him or indeed anyone, I am not convinced that we are all ready and well prepared. Similar guff comes out of the club before every window, we want to get players in early, players get linked etc. It doesnt mean anything. I cant say that I have ever seen Cleary play so I dont know. Seems to have impressed at Barnsley for half a season which is all there is to go on. Young and fairly untested, but seemingly quick and likes to do something alien to the rest of our squad and run with the ball. But big question marks around his position as I have touched on. I couldnt possibly say if he would be good or bad, and until he actually signs its an irrelevance. Neither Bowyer or Mowbray received continious backing by any means. We are also clearly desperate to cut the wage bill as much as we can.

Back then I usually made naive childish excuses for the team after defeats (not being embittered by that point) but I certainly didn't after that dreadful game. Birmingham and Swansea are examples where celebrity names were on board. Tom Brady of the NFL in Birmingham's case and in Swansea's case bringing in Luka Modric, Calvin Broadus and most recently Martha Stewart. Then there's people who are fans like Sheeran at Ipswich. Maybe Dr Who would contribute if a consortium wanted any widely known supporters to get on board with a bid. Of course one problem with consortiums or overrated fan ownership (and I certainly can't see that happening in Blackburn) is the potential of civil war. Of course minority ownership hardly means significant control.

Not sure that figure is anywhere near realistic. Birmingham went for £22 million, Wednesday are currently looking for £20 million but it could be less. Swansea were sold for £100 million when they were in the Prem and sold again recently for an undisclosed amount 'vastly below' that initial investment according to most reports.

So Nixon says 'substantial' six figure bid rejected for the Barnsley lad. I know he's partly employed to put a shine on all things Rovers under the rotten regime but is there such thing as a a 'substantial' six figure bid in modern day Championship terms? The most it could possibly be is £999,999 which would not be a substantial sum for a Championship football club, especially not one used to selling players for 10x that amount every transfer window.
