  1. Past hour
  2. I can only think Palace have asked for him not to be selected for these friendlies.
  3. Funnily enough, detailed plans of a Mount Rushmore style sculpture were suggested and shared with the club as part of the 150th anniversary plans but ultimately didn't go anywhere. Based on the historical angle and focusing on the birth of the club (and our subsequent impact on the sport), 'Founding Fathers' was suggested as a working title, as was the inclusion of John Lewis, Arthur Constantine, Bob Crompton and Fergus Suter. I can't comment as to whether this plan will still come to fruition, but I very much doubt it.
  4. Fortunately, most people can see through this now.
  5. I wonder if this is the right moment for the Coalition to issue an open letter calling on the Venkys to finally back the club, now that financial restrictions have been lifted. With no excuses left, we expect visible commitment: come to Ewood, invest significantly in January, and give the team the financial (and leadership) support it needs to avoid relegation. Realistically, we know this won't happen but if the response is silence, that in itself will speak volumes and confirm their lack of genuine interest in the club.
  6. Exactly Tyrone. He can split a defence with one touch from deep midfield. Not many can do that.
  7. The football agents certainly love Venky’s (especially those formerly of SEM). Shameful.
  8. I first saw him at 17 and he had the 'wow' factor. He was one move ahead of the other players and more often than not knew where his next pass was going before he got the ball. His head swivels constantly. I'm proud of his Rovers connection but disgusted at the way he was sacrificed because of the owners misdemenours. And add the insulting remarks by Pasha which compounded another sorry tale in the history of the last decade and a half.
  9. It was the quality of his passing that stood out for me. A lot of one touch stuff that meant he was very rarely caught in possession. Always where the player receiving the ball wanted it. Always with just the right amount of pace on the ball. He was Tugayesque and still a teenager. As you say even the dogs in the street could see he was special talent. Anybody who thought Lowe was a footballer disqualified themselves from making a comment on Wharton. The first time I saw him play I was genuinely shocked. What did he bring to the game ? He could run a bit, tackle a bit, pass it 10 yards to a team mate, head it bit. Was he a game changer like Wharton is ? Never in a million years.
  10. Unless Eustace Johnson & Lowe are in charge.
  11. Some people could see just how talented he was and how special he was. Some people could see just how he stood out from even the best youngsters we’ve had over 60+ years. Some people thought he was a very good player.
  12. We could be 10 points clear at the top and we would still lose at home to Stoke.
  13. Imagine the scenes if multiple games can't take place at Ewood this season. I'm done being embarrassed by this club so I'm all for it. Bring on the rain.
  14. Today
  15. He is Morishita than Scott Sellars and most other players of that era.
  16. It will be high tonight. Non stop rain forecast from 1pm to around 10pm according to the Met Office. Then a light rain from 1am turning heavy again at 8am through until 12pm. This will be a game where Stoke will be winning, the pitch will start to become unplayable but they will see it through. Can see it happening a mile away.
  17. Someone needs to go and check the river levels behind the ground. If it's already high, game could be in trouble. Otherwise, the early kick off time will likely see the game through
  18. We were singing his praises on here after that Blackpool debut though. Don't know if the words "world class" were used but it was obvious he was really special. Never seen a debut like it.
  19. Rovers squeezed this little update into the U21 preview The clash comes too soon for the likes of Hayden Carter or Jake Garrett, who remain weeks away from returning to match action, whilst Moussa Baradji is a longer-term absentee. I assume from this that the initial diagnosis of a return during either the October or November international break was over optimistic, as it sounds like that will be the timeframe for Carter & Garrett, whilst Baradji will take longer
  20. He's contracted til 2029. Don't suppose it's urgent for Palace. Might want to win a Premiership first!
  21. The classic comment of somebody who just doesn't get it.
  22. Rumours of a £65 million price tag in January unless Palace can tie him down to a new deal. But hey, that £18 million.
  23. Damage will be done by Friday's rain. Think back to the Portsmouth game last season.
  24. As the poll inches towards its close, essentially I suspect that if you were old enough then Iley wins this hands down but it’s true that Ince squandered more resources.
  25. Who said he was ‘world class’ at 18/19? Very rare anybody is at that age, especially when in a middling second division side. Obviously it was all about potential. Jason Lowe captained the U20s and had three times as many caps at U21 level than Wharton. Those England coaches/selectors aren’t particularly the arbiter of anything.
  26. You mention it every time ...go back and it mentioned multiple times by you . At the time it was being said it was obvious to anyone that could see that Wharton was a world class talent...obviously not when he wasn't getting selected for any underage level nationally until he made his debut for us and it took a move to the prem for him to get under 21 recognition...I get things like big club bias as the reasoning behind that yet Ash Phillips was captaining his age group. And it was so obvious he was a world class talent to everyone , yet only crystal Palace paid the 18 million for him Iv said many times we shouldn't have sold him, said many times I think he was worth more than we sold him for but I 100% believe there was doubts about him at other clubs and he wasn't being rated as highly externally as he should have been.
  27. Total bollocks. I know people, as many on this board will, who were there when we were spanked 7-1 at Shrewsbury in the 70s , been stood in snowstorm away at Halifax who now don't go because morally they feel such a disconnect between the club and themselves and cannot feel complicit in supporting it (not saying those who do are btw, its individual, plenty are anti regime who attend) So keep your patronising comments, it's nothing to do with the quality of football for majority. We're all Rovers fans, if you choose to go, fine totally understand it and sometimes I wish I still was, but don't make stupid conclusions. We lost thousands of fans in 1960/61 who'd been going years too, suppose they were just fickle?
