v Ipswich Town (h) - 20/9/25

Rest assured, the FA will come up with a new rule on the back of what happened today to make sure a team in Rovers position (80 min, 1-0, 11 vs 10) is safeguarded from a BS 11 v 11 90 minute rematch.... However, with that said, Rovers will absolutely be forced to play an 11 v 11 90 minute rematch at 0-0. For me, tell Ipswich that they have to come back for 11 minutes (+6), 1-0 down and with 10 men, or agree to the 1-0 score and get to fuck. -

Remember the tank thing that used to be in the no mans land corner of Ewood between the Riverside & DE before it was redeveloped ? I'm sure they could have something similar to pump excess water from the pitch drains. -

What's the rivers like next to their ground? It's been a while since I was last on Chorley but I don't recall it being in a similar situation to Ewood. Unfortunately, and it doesn't happen that often, when the river is in its present state there is not much you can do. To do anything about the river it would require the Environment agency to get involved and that would be a long drawn out process. I remember games being played in a sea of mud in the sixties but we still had abandonments and postponements. The pitch has improved beyond recognition to those days but the torrential rain we had today was always going to be a challenge. In fairness, the ref was in a difficult situation as conditions got steadily worse during the second half. Driving home from Ewood, the roads were none too clever either. As for the game itself, it was another encouraging performance on the back of the good result and performance at Watford. -

Nope, 11 v 11, 0-0, the full 90 minutes and nobody on a card. Knowing our luck the guy that got sent off today will probably score their winner ! -

That's before you take into account the inevitable Southern bias and multi million quid team who are expected to be contesting promotion again. Plus everybody hates us because we won the Prem .....30 years ago ! -

It's hard to take. 1-0 up, them with 10 men and we couldn't go another 10 minutes. Feels like 3 points stolen. -

If we replay then our players end up playing extra minutes and more risk of injury- very unfair would they make Ipswich play with 10men? -

At 1-0 ? Not a chance. If it was 1-0 at 90 minutes they’d still order a replay. As somebody said earlier City were winning an FA Cup tie 6-2 when it was abandoned due to a water logged pitch. They lost the replayed game 3-1. -

I don't see how you can replay a game that made it to the 80th minute... That's surely too late in the day to abandon and replay it. It should be abandoned and the result at the time of postponement stands. - Today

I agree that if the only options are give us the win or a full replay then it has to be a full replay. Giving us the win can’t be justified. I don’t think a middle option exists in this country -

There was nothing in it for Ipswich to want to play on. A man down and a goal down. So they play several short passes all along the ground to make sure the ref sees the problem. They could have walloped it down field, but they didn’t. They did exactly what I would have done in the same circumstances. -

I get it, but when a road is covered in puddles you adapt and avoid them, for 10 minutes the players on the pitch could have coped I believe. 90 minutes absolutely not, 45 minutes also no, it was 10 minutes though just play hoofball for a bit. -

We were told that was the case but of course, smug old Kieran has had his stay. Transparently trying to say it should have been called off a lot earlier, no doubt before the sending off and the penalty. Twat -

Only really one way to point the finger of blame and it’s towards those who have invested absolute shite all into our facilities for 15 years whilst being Gaslit by the likes of Waggot back then telling us “we’ve invested heavily in the pitch”. I’m annoyed but also just so fed up with Rovers these days I’m almost just shrugging my shoulders. The rule itself is just a disgrace too, it makes absolutely zero sense at all to have it the way it is. I can’t think of a single reason it’s this way bar “travel for 10 minutes” so what, just play it out at the end of the return fixture for all I care. -

But the game being called off today was not because of him. It was unfortunately the only possible decision. They came out to clap the fans who have travelled a long way. -

There is no prescribed way of doing it. Personally I thought the referee did the right thing by focusing on the worst area. I really didn't think there was a cat in hells chance of the game restarting and the cursory 'inspection' was purely aesthetic in my view and perhaps a bit of arse covering for when he compiles his report. -

Thats not an equal comeback. I get your frustration and we all share it. But your replies are that of someone unable to put aside bias to come to a reasonable conclusion. The only possible solution today was to stop the game. The pitch and conditions were clearly unfit to complete it, the ball wasnt moving or bouncing on the ball. Its as simple as that. The stuff comparing it to the Portsmouth game years and years ago is clutching at straws. Its irrelevant, although I concur that the conditions that day were worse and also the outcome of the game was much more secure, todays game was in the balance. In no way could we have carried on today purely because another game in 2017(?) also carried on. Was the game playable today? No. End of story. Its a really unfortunate situation for us fans, and the players too. But the game had to be stopped and just giving us the win isnt a fair outcome based on 80 minutes either. Any anger should be placed towards the owners/Suhail for being unwilling to improve the drainage. And sadly, the rules indicate that a full replay will take place. -

Not my recollection, we were going well and a really strong and vociferous following that wintry day. Remember it well as I travelled with the old Ribble Valley blues coach from Whalley. -
