briansol Posted November 6, 2007 Posted November 6, 2007 nicko, is there more info on Rovers interest in Kone of Rosenborg? Just watched them blow away Valencia 2-0 at Mestalla after beating them 2-0 at home a fortnight ago. Their CL run also include a 1-1 draw against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. Pretty sensational after a disastrous league campaign where they only managed to sneak into a 5th spot. Kone is basicly the rich man's Jason Roberts, and if the interest is genuine it might mean that Rovers plan to sell Roberts in January. His appearances for Rosenborg has been limited because their 4-3-3 formation with only one central striker, which has been Steffen Iversen. He's now propably their main striker, although they've started playing 4-4-2. Rovers should also keep an eye on Skjelbred who is probably gonna be the next big export from Norway. A very dynamic midfielder who plays at a high tempo and with classy passing.

Mozzer Posted November 6, 2007 Posted November 6, 2007 kristoff haestad- i know he had a bad time at wigan, but he seemed very highly rated, as was deemed to be like gattuso-maybe he could be worth a shot... john arse riise-seems certain to leave liverpool, we should def look at getting him(if villa think they can).. maybe more norway players could get the best out of pedersen
Eddie Posted November 6, 2007 Posted November 6, 2007 No point in signing Riise when we have Warnock. I've also always felt that he's a bit like MGP in the sense that spectacular goals often make up for average play. MGP is certainly the more complete all round player, but the comparison still stands for me. I'm really interested to see what we do in this transfer window.

herbergeehh Posted November 7, 2007 Posted November 7, 2007 Riise is good enough, but he's not needed in our team. He's too good / expensive to be signed as a 2nd choice leftback/wing, and he's not much, if any better than Warnock. As for Hæstad, he's not the type of player we need at the moment, and it seems like the foreign interest has reduced in strenght the last few months, he's linked to other Norwegian clubs at the moment. Kone is a no go hopefully, I just don't think he's good enough to warrant a bid from a club like ourselves, being reasonably solid in attack at the moment. If it were to happen, it would probably be as a direct replacement for Roberts, and I strongly disagree that Kone is a better version. His off-the-pitch tactics has put me off somewhat too, he seems to moan quite a lot. Skjelbred is a great prospect though, what an enigma in midfield at such a young age.
LeftWinger Posted November 7, 2007 Posted November 7, 2007 What if we could persuade Liverpool to give us cash plus Riise for MGP? Tempting?
philipl Posted November 7, 2007 Posted November 7, 2007 What if we could persuade Liverpool to give us cash plus Riise for MGP? Tempting? It tempted me into an involuntary retching.
Fife Rover Posted November 7, 2007 Posted November 7, 2007 What if we could persuade Liverpool to give us cash plus Riise for MGP? Tempting? Not at all.
LeftWinger Posted November 7, 2007 Posted November 7, 2007 I seem to remember quite a few people being unhappy at us getting Friedel and Warnock from Liverpool - and they turned out alright.
Eddie Posted November 7, 2007 Posted November 7, 2007 That's true, but Risse would be on large wages (as we can all see), plus he plays a position that we already have first choices and cover.
Sandiway Blue Posted November 7, 2007 Posted November 7, 2007 What if we could persuade Liverpool to give us cash plus Riise for MGP? Tempting? Not unless we get relegated. Sign of the times when there are some Liverpool players i wouldn`t have at Rovers. Riise and Pennant immediately spring to mind, anybody else? (i know we have strayed off topic here but as Nicko is working on his next scoop we might as well pass the time )
nicko Posted November 7, 2007 Posted November 7, 2007 Now that would be telling... I can't see Riise being any use to you or even available at Liverpool. He is ok at left back but can't defend and as a winger - well, the less said the better. Give Pedersen the chance to recover his best form, he's trying and has so much more going for him than Riise.
thenodrog Posted November 7, 2007 Posted November 7, 2007 What if we could persuade Liverpool to give us cash plus Riise for MGP? Tempting? Not at all tempting. Riise was good when we initially were reported to be in for him and when Lpool stepped in but he appears to be in a comfort zone now.
CAPT KAYOS Posted November 7, 2007 Posted November 7, 2007 Not at all tempting. Riise was good when we initially were reported to be in for him and when Lpool stepped in but he appears to be in a comfort zone now. More like comfort eating zone - looked alittle on the large side on Saturday

Thats the story from the Daily Mail; http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/live/arti...amp;ito=newsnow I'd love to see him at Rovers! was very good at the last World Cup.
nicko Posted November 7, 2007 Posted November 7, 2007 http://www.teamtalk.com/football/story/0,1...2866639,00.html just wondering if there is any truth in this??? Ujfalusi was offered round about two years ago when he was younger and quicker. It was a total mess in terms of sorting out fees and a couple of clubs got 'used.' He looks the part but he is a bit of a stiff. There would be no point in signing him as a centre half and he is not the greatest right back. But if he is cheap I suppose it fits the current Rovers budget... Always wary of stories where there are clubs queuing up for a player when his contract is about to end. Sceptical.
benlloninho Posted November 7, 2007 Posted November 7, 2007 I could easily believe we're interested in Ufjalusi [sic?]. I remember the first time I saw him play - it was at EURO 2004. I think Czech Rep were playing Danemark and at the time Dennis Rohmmedal [sic?] was being raved about being the fastest footballer - I think he had a very low 100m dash time. But anyway, Rohmmedal was trying to chase down a ball and Ufjalusi came out of nowhere and beat him easily to it. In summary, Ufjalusi is/was extremely quick. I haven't seen him playing lately, so I can't really comment. But we're linked along with several other leading European clubs so I doubt we'd get him, and if we did get him, who would you drop, Nelsen or Samba?
sussexrover Posted November 7, 2007 Posted November 7, 2007 If the guy is of sufficient quality and available at the right price then I see no reason why we would not be interested. Whilst we look fairly strong in that department at the moment Ooijer is 33 and Nelsen is seeming to be continuing to pick up strains and niggles. Henchoz will surely go at the end of this season (granted he hasn't really figured yet) so if we dont recruit somebody else a knock to Samba could see us a bit short (no pun intended) at the back.
lockers Posted November 7, 2007 Posted November 7, 2007 Ujfalsi is a complete tank! Opposition strikers would crap themselves running at Samba and him!
FourLaneBlue Posted November 7, 2007 Posted November 7, 2007 I seem to remember quite a few people being unhappy at us getting Friedel and Warnock from Liverpool - and they turned out alright. I don't remember too much disapproval regarding the Warnock signing but I don't remember one Rovers fan thinking bringing in Brad to replace John Filan (player of the year the previous season) to be a good move. Especially as we also had Alan Kelly as well at the time. Dickov was also roundly criticised but did very well for the club for little outlay. Shame he was deemed as replacing Cole who was a favourite with many fans.
Lathund Posted November 7, 2007 Posted November 7, 2007 I've only seen Ujfalusi in a few games, but he was really good in a couple of them. I'll leave any judgement to those who know him better, but a Czech international able to play both RB and CB sounds like a good deal to me.
rovers_rob Posted November 9, 2007 Posted November 9, 2007 Any tips for the burnley job nicko ? Are Leicester and Wigan close to appointing anyone ?
