nicko Posted November 20, 2007 Posted November 20, 2007 Black's odds for brum manager have shortened today, i assume that's because they have no idea who they want and he is the most obvious. I've gone a bit out there and put a few quid on Coleman at 20/1, either him or McLeish for me. The other names on the list aren't worth shouting about, maybe Jewell at a push. Birmingham is an intriguing market, wish it was on Betfair because you could lay some dead-cert non-starters. I can't see McLeish wanting it after turning up his nose at Bolton and Wigan. I know Jewell doesn't. Wigan expect Eric Black to join them next week. Coleman is a shrewd call at that price...but I have no idea who they want and neither do they.

Fife Rover Posted November 20, 2007 Posted November 20, 2007 Theres no way Coyle is gonna somehow transform the dingles into a prem outfit!!! isnt he at a scottish pub team ? Don't make the mistake of underestimating Owen Coyle; he really is a battling and competitive character who has played for a number of top Scottish teams and been very successful everywhere he played. He has also shown great promise as an up and coming young manager who has turned St. Johnstone round and got them looking like promotion candidates in his first season in charge. I think if he is given enough cash and a free reign at Bumley he will get them promoted, and I would not rule out doing this season either.
modes98 Posted November 20, 2007 Posted November 20, 2007 Coleman is a shrewd call at that price...but I have no idea who they want and neither do they. Recently Coleman wanted to leave but was told he would be staying until January at least, so you never know. You would have thought the Brum board would have tested the water out and about before letting Bruce leave. Also Jasper Carrot or Karen Brady are 10,000/1, worth a go! Royston Griffiths was born in stoke on trent but has an aussie passport according to football manager
nicko Posted November 20, 2007 Posted November 20, 2007 Royston Griffiths is an Aussie - not Welsh, I beg his pardon - and a youth international.
Alan75 Posted November 20, 2007 Posted November 20, 2007 Royston Griffiths is an Aussie - not Welsh, I beg his pardon - and a youth international. Nicko, Rostyn Griffiths is from Perth WA, and has only played for the Aussies at Youth level, until he gets his full call up by the Aussies, due to parentage he is still eligable to play for Wales. So you were indirectly correct on both posts. ps His younger brother Brent is also at the Rovers academy.

Mozzer Posted November 20, 2007 Posted November 20, 2007 nicko...anything on who could be starting for england tomorrow?? id be very suprised if bentley made the bench for this game..
nicko Posted November 20, 2007 Posted November 20, 2007 nicko...anything on who could be starting for england tomorrow?? id be very suprised if bentley made the bench for this game.. Carson in for Robinson and Beckham out were the two bits of news I heard. Barry in front of the back four and with four across the middle and Crouch up front. Gerrard and Lampard to play. Wright-Phillips probably getting the nod ahead of Bentley. McClaren likes Ashley Young and I could see him being first off the bench.
EwoodGlory Posted November 20, 2007 Posted November 20, 2007 Sounds about right for an England team. Play a huge striker and 2 wingers who can't put a decent cross in. I would of started with Young and Beckham on the wings. Lampard in a free role behind Crouch, he does well at Chelsea because he normally has a couple of people behind him to tidy up, like Essien and Mikel
modes98 Posted November 20, 2007 Posted November 20, 2007 Looks like a team for a draw. Good old McClown. If only you had said earlier nicko. I was so tempted to stick some more hard earned pennies on Carson to get in ahead of Robbo at 5/2. Went for 2-0 instead, which isn't looking so good now we only have 1 striker.
revolutionrock! Posted November 20, 2007 Posted November 20, 2007 Right...Burnley are four points off the top six and have a game in hand against QPR. A win takes them 8th. If you have seen Owen Coyle's sides or know the guy as a person and a coach you would realise he is top drawer. He will have what is a very decent squad playing better and attractive football. He also has a good eye for a player and will strengthen, possibly by the end of the week. I have already put my money where my mouth is and backed them to go up via the play-offs. At 20 to 1 I thought it was sheer value. I may lose, but I think the rest of the season may be fun for your country cousins. As for the compensation delay I think that will be sorted. No way Hoseh. Maybe that Bolton Poll looks a bit more true??
nicko Posted November 20, 2007 Posted November 20, 2007 No way Hoseh. Maybe that Bolton Poll looks a bit more true?? Tell me a good team in the Championship...
broadsword Posted November 20, 2007 Posted November 20, 2007 Currently on the Beeb (reported at 4pm), that B*rnley's move for Coyle has been knocked back. So it would seem he ain't the new manager? Would I like to see B*rnley in the Premiership? Would I rollocks. I'd be much happier seeing them in the Beazer Homos League.

The two clubs can't agree a fee yet but it's called negotiation. It will happen.
nicko Posted November 20, 2007 Posted November 20, 2007 By the way, why would you NOT want two sell-out games? Probably both on Sky? I have seen all four of the recent derbies and they were all crackers in their own way. I just don't get this idea that you want to hurl abuse and never actually go head to head.
92er Posted November 20, 2007 Posted November 20, 2007 I don't see any reason why you both can't be successful. As chuffed with this as anything I can remember... When was the last time Rovers and Burnley were both in the top flight? 1965/66
92er Posted November 20, 2007 Posted November 20, 2007 It certainly seems as though Flood is keen to move Burnley on. If Coyle is any good, he should be capable of doing at least what Moyes and Davies did at Preston and he might even get them promoted. I don't want Burnley to get promoted because any time they spend in the top division will strengthen their club and I am only interested in strengthening my club; there is also just too much aggro when we play them. So, I won't diss them but they can stay down thank you.
Dunnfc Posted November 20, 2007 Posted November 20, 2007 Id be well up for a derby match infact it would probably make some of our older generation supporters get there football hunger back as some has been lost to the money around nowadays. Two Northern sides, mid week game on a cold night and a chicken balti pie nothing beats that! Why are some of you afraid of the 6 fingred freaks? We are Lancashires number 1 not Burnley. Dont you think some of the players like Derbs and Dunn would give anything to play Burnley? Just imagine if we won more local bragging rights.

I can't eat bananas with my feet, but my wife can I would love to play you lot regularly in the same division, games against Scunthorpe and Hull don't do it for me. For the last few years there havnt been many high profile matches to look forward to- thank God for PNE and Leeds in this respect. And I'll bet that a lot of your games have been similarly uninspiring. If we were in the same division then our whole season would have more spice. (Hang on, I'm just remembering 2000 ). I know a few Rovers fans and we have good banter(at the moment at my expense) - there are only a few idiots, no matter what you have been told. Hope to see you all at ours next season!
Ben-2000 Posted November 20, 2007 Posted November 20, 2007 I've been to all 4 of the games involving Rovers and Burnley in the last few years and each of them were fantastic days out and with big crowds. I feel it would lose it's edge if we played them twice a season - playing them every few seasons gives it that extra spice! Besides, both teams are where they belong at present!
Dunnfc Posted November 20, 2007 Posted November 20, 2007 BRING BACK THE DERBY! I mean Man u have Man C and Liverpool have Everton, Arsenal have Spurs, and they lose to each other, football is a game, and with a game comes fun and banter, Wht would be the problem if we played Burnley on a regular ocassion and win or lose games between them?
Ben-2000 Posted November 20, 2007 Posted November 20, 2007 As I said above - for me although it would be the game of the season it wouldn't have the edge to it that it has now if it were to happen every season.
Sandiway Blue Posted November 20, 2007 Posted November 20, 2007 sorry but i will take any chance we get to play the dingles.Sellout games against local rivals or uninspiring games against the likes of fulham, watford and charlton etc? For me a no-brainer, bring them on! An easy 6 points a season i think.
American Posted November 21, 2007 Posted November 21, 2007 Mr Nickson, as much as I admire your quality snippets I have to put you firmly in the place those comments belong. YOU ARE HAVING A LAUGH Whatever makes you think Coyle can take bumley to the promised land of the Premiership ? Where is his experience of English management ? What skills and expertise of coaching does Owen have ? What makes you think bumley have the backing to make it into the top 3 of their respective league ? Apply all of those same lines when we hired Hughes.... (And some could argue that he hasn't had the backing to make it into the top 6 of our league, but it hasn't stopped him.)
