nicko Posted August 8, 2007 Posted August 8, 2007 Joe Garner has chosen Dundee United. He will be unveiled, as we say, tomorrow. The fee is about £150,000. I know there is some grieving, but it's fair enough to let the lad go out and get his career going. No news on Franny Jeffers which sounds like bad news if you wanted rid.
neophox Posted August 8, 2007 Posted August 8, 2007 I thought Franny has signed for Wednesday tonight? Oh leave please bloody.....
Mozzer Posted August 8, 2007 Posted August 8, 2007 nicko, the defender boro are close to signing, is he any good?? is it jay demerit??
neophox Posted August 8, 2007 Posted August 8, 2007 Just can't believe this transfers, Beattie to Sheff U for £4m Gordon to Sunderland worth up to £9m, Nigel Reo for £8.5m, Kamara £6m, Bianchi £8,8m, Anderson £18m, Woodgate £7m, Jose Enrique £6.3m, Chopra £5m, Bent £16m, Julien Faubert £6.1m, Scott Parker £7m, Jason Koumas £5.3m Todays market is insane. Look at us: Rigters for £350.000 Santa Cruz 25 years old £3.3m (WORLD STAR)
Rover down South Posted August 8, 2007 Posted August 8, 2007 Been looking on Middlesbrough's forum sites etc for any info on any possible defenders being signed & can find nothing. The only incoming transfer speculation I can find is the Czech Republic striker Jan Koller (who is 34!!) Doubt now they will have anyone signed in time for saturday, at least if they do they won't be settled in. Middlesbrough 0 Blackburn 2 (Samba & McCarthy)
EwoodGlory Posted August 8, 2007 Posted August 8, 2007 Middlesbrough 0 Blackburn 2 (Samba & McCarthy) As both are in my dream team i'll settle for that
Florida Rover Posted August 9, 2007 Posted August 9, 2007 Nicko, Was that our old Gary Harkins that scored for Partick in the Scottish Cup tonight?(A late winner scored at Firhill Stadium made you happy no doubt.)Is he a regular up there now?
herbergeehh Posted August 9, 2007 Posted August 9, 2007 Surely that's something you can work out for yourself, some googling? Anyway, sad to see Joe Garner leaving permanently, but I'm sure that means Sparky sees no immediate impact by keeping him, Still think a loan move would be preferable though, but that's me not having seen him much, so I won't complain too much either. Do you have any idea why he isn't loaned out instead, Nicko? Apart form Hughes not rating him enough to give him a place in the team, obviously..

You mean 'there's only one Gary Harkins.' Yes, come to Firhill via Grimsby and a few other stops. A good start for the lad.

I think Mark Hughes was just being fair with him and letting him go. I am not certain, but I am pretty sure there is a sell-on clause. If he does well he will move on and you profit. If he had stayed in the stiffs or gone on loan he would have started to go backwards. Some players do come back and hurt you, but that's a chance you take. For what it's worth I think he will score plenty up there.
nicko Posted August 9, 2007 Posted August 9, 2007 Just some info on the Argentinian lad Franco Di Santo. He is 6ft31in and 18, although he looks a bit older in his picture. Hard paper round perhaps. There is a big fight between agents about where he is going. One guy has been trying to take him to the Premiership, claiming he can go on loan for about £500,000 for a year - with a £5 million price on his head. But a more official agent from South America has told me there is no way Di Santo goes anywhere on loan and the more accurate price to buy is £2 million-plus. Italian side Reggina want him already. He is from an Italian family and his club in Chile are called Audax Italiano, so he may fancy the 'old country.' The Chilean season has started and Audax have gone well, third top with two wins and a draw. So it would be crazy to think they would let him go for a tour of Premiership clubs. As I said all along, this one will be a tough deal to make happen...even if the guy is worth the effort.
Antgrad Posted August 9, 2007 Posted August 9, 2007 ... He is 6ft31in... Wow, big lad. Is that like 8ft 7in?
pleasure Posted August 9, 2007 Posted August 9, 2007 Pretty sure we out do ye, we lost against QPR, there were calls for Sanchez out! i fear for fulham this season. i've bet on them to go down, along with boro and birmingham (66-1). off topic, and i dont wish to depress you even more, ffan, but.... how the hell is zat knight still in fulham's 1st team ? he's been captain too!

Fulham will be fine this season. I would have full faith in Sanachez and you can hold me to that opinion and Pleasure lets hope you didn't put an accumator on that bet because sure as hell you have lost that one, lol!! Fulham are not too bad at the back and will take some beating to get past Niemi alone. Hughes, Baird will have steadied the ship and their midfield is fairly promising and wee Stevie Davis is an absolute snip at £2million. They will get their fair share of goals from Camara and Healy. All round a safe mid-table standing. However, I feel you're spot on with Birmingham and Middlesbrough will not be too far away. Bolton, Wigan and Derby will be pulled into the relegation dog-fight this season with Sunderland just above the aforementioned 5 teams.

Why isn't there a cry emote? Knight cost us the Hong Kong cup and a goal against QPR and he just signed a new contract and Kamara and Hughes are out and Lawrie Sanchez is trying to sign another Northern Irish player.
Mozzer Posted August 9, 2007 Posted August 9, 2007 aston villa after liam rosenior in the mirror today, we should try go for him, he's a good young player,
ffan Posted August 9, 2007 Posted August 9, 2007 aston villa after liam rosenior in the mirror today, we should try go for him, he's a good young player, I'm one of the few Fulham fans that actually like him, gives 100% commitent, great tackler but the thing that lets him down, his passing. Most fans would bite and swallow someones head if we were offered three million pounds.
Mozzer Posted August 9, 2007 Posted August 9, 2007 i wouldnt mind some of fulham's players, liam rosenior, diop, bullard... liam rosenior is good, but 3million is steep...
Eddie Posted August 9, 2007 Posted August 9, 2007 More than steep, there would be something wrong with you to pay that price for him, even in the current market.
nicko Posted August 9, 2007 Posted August 9, 2007 Judging by some of the comments earlier this news may be greeted with street parties... Francis Jeffers is having his medical at Sheffield Wednesday and should sign this afternoon. The fee is agreed, the wages too and the pay-off. The hold-up was mainly his reluctance to go out of the Premiership. His debut is against Ipswich, which is ironic. With Joe Garner also having his medical at Dundee United as we speak then that is pretty clean and tidy business.

I would have full faith in Sanachez and you can hold me to that opinion and Pleasure lets hope you didn't put an accumator on that bet because sure as hell you have lost that one, lol!! i placed a bet that fulham, birmingham and boro would the 3 relegated teams. your faith in sanchez, and his signings, wouldnt have anything to do with ....... you being from northern ireland..... would it ?
bellamy11 Posted August 9, 2007 Posted August 9, 2007 Rover Groo being biased towards Northern Ireland?!? Well now I've heard everything!
Ricky Posted August 9, 2007 Posted August 9, 2007 Pleasure, I'm surprised that you feel Derby have enough quality to survive. I fear for them this season. I'm also not 100% convinced with Sunderlands squad, if they don't get off to a great start I think they could struggle a little. Yes, I know yhey've spent 27 million but I dont think they've spent on quality players. I know its not the right threa and it probably deserves one of tis own but i'd go for Derby, Wigan, and Birmingham (the last one is just wishful thinking as i'd love to see them go down again)
LeftWinger Posted August 9, 2007 Posted August 9, 2007 Nicko - from a betting point of view - do you have any information on how bad the food poising at Norwich is? I heard 30 people were affected - but only 4 were players. Do you think its worth having a few quid on North End - despite what I saw from them on Saturday?
