USABlue Posted February 19, 2008 Posted February 19, 2008 I am pretty certain that was the 'dream' move that the manager had in mind. When Chelsea came in the price went too high and the chances disappeared. Hah, perchance to dream. Would have been nice. Had McCarthy shown even half the prowess he did last season we might have been able to pull it off. Still if he had done that we migh not have wanted to pull it off.

nicko Posted February 19, 2008 Author Posted February 19, 2008 Hah, perchance to dream. Would have been nice. Had McCarthy shown even half the prowess he did last season we might have been able to pull it off. Still if he had done that we migh not have wanted to pull it off. Back in the Good Old Days [December] a top-class finisher might have shot the club into the top four. So I think it goes down as one that got away...but Anelka was and is the calibre of player who can make a difference. If the defence of the failure to by players is because there wasn't quality out there, that is fair enough. But it still leaves questions about the next window and how much will be there to spend and whether a player or two will have to go. Interesting times. On the 'takeover questions' previously asked...I'd love to know who all of these interested parties are and why there is so little progress.
Flopsy Posted February 19, 2008 Posted February 19, 2008 I'd love us to get Jimmy Bullard, who would, I feel give great energy and drive to the midfield, a younger Robbie Savage, but without the baggage. Plus he's too likeable not to want to have at Rovers
roversmum Posted February 19, 2008 Posted February 19, 2008 Didn't he want to be in the London area though? Bit of a trek from these parts
ally Posted February 19, 2008 Posted February 19, 2008 think the club should employ a Personal Physcholigst, seems to be doing wonders for David James who is in great form! maybe some players who have been lacking i.e. the Gamst's, McCarthy's it would do wonders for!! i await the backlash of abuse

Can you imagine Paul McKenna hypnotising our entire squad and telling them that if they lost the next match they'd be burned at the stake. Watch Benni run then....

On the 'takeover questions' previously asked...I'd love to know who all of these interested parties are and why there is so little progress. To be fair I never really thought a purchase of ANelka was possible. Chelsea were obviously interested and it is hard to see how Anelka would have felt he was progressing by coming to Rovers. Saying that he did go to Bolton in the first place. Him and Rocky up front would have been a ludicrously good combination. Oh well... Anelka aside the only internal transfer that looked good and wasn't for far more money than we could afford was Diarra. Woodgate, Hutton, Defoe, Benjani are all very good players but the money is just silly.

Put it this way. If we do have one at the moment he probably needs a change of employment ..........
modes98 Posted February 19, 2008 Posted February 19, 2008 Nicko any info on the situation at liverpool? Could tonight be Rafa's final match in charge? Papers linking O'Neill (would love him to leave villa up the creek), Jose and Frank Rijkaard with the job.

The whole future of the club is at stake here...if they miss out on the Champions League next season we are talking about the next Leeds United.

RevidgeBlue Posted February 19, 2008 Posted February 19, 2008 The whole future of the club is at stake here...if they miss out on the Champions League next season we are talking about the next Leeds United. OOOOH............ PLEASE! I feel slightly sorry for the Americans in a way, they come in, have a crap manager they didn't appoint already at the helm, give him 26m to spend on Torres, watch their manager throw game after game away because he hasn't put out his strongest side out - and it's all their fault! Plus when they don't give Beneathus a further 50m to spend in the January window, the tanks are rolling up to the White House lawn so to speak!
nicko Posted February 19, 2008 Author Posted February 19, 2008 Interesting...mind you, it was out a week ago. http://www.thisisblackburn.co.uk/display.var.2055087.0..php

I never made sense of why they bought the club. They are never there, their plans for a new ground were too expensive and they have no idea about football. To tap up Kilnsmann was a scandal. Mind you, Benitez likes getting his own way and took them on. He will ultimately lose. But how can the Yanks sack him right now when he has to get them into the Champions League or the whole thing implodes? Fascinating.
modes98 Posted February 19, 2008 Posted February 19, 2008 But how can the Yanks sack him right now when he has to get them into the Champions League or the whole thing implodes? Because he will lose tonight and if they let him stay they will go out of the CL and not make the top 4. I doubt they would become the next Leeds as they have big investors queuing up to invest. It would still be funny though. For me i would have sacked rafa a fair time ago, the man has obviously lost the plot(if he had it to start with) and is trying players in every position under the sun. His transfer record is not the best considering the endless cash he has to spend.

No top boss is going to quit to take that job with the stakes so high and such massive doubts about the ownership of the club... Nightmare.

Fascinating. 1) Presumably to get out in the short to medium term for a decent profit. It won't exactly be a disaster for them if they turn the Club over to DIC for a quick 50m profit will it? 2) Agreed 3) You might argue they were being sensible and covering all their bases in case Beneathus walked out. Should never have been made public though. 4) Oh dear, what a shame, never mind! 5) Someone else might stand a better chance of getting them back in there.
broadsword Posted February 19, 2008 Posted February 19, 2008 I'm not sure the Yanks are in a good bargaining position, I think they'll be lucky to end up quids in. But yeah, such a shame to see them struggling financially, if only it was Chelsea!

It won't exactly be a disaster for them if they turn the Club over to DIC for a quick 50m profit will it? THE ARABS WON'T GIVE THEM A PROFIT, THEY WILL WAIT AND TRY TO SCREW THEM TO THE DECK. REMEMBER THEY WERE OUTBID LAST TIME - AND DON'T FORGET THAT KIND OF INSULT TOO QUICKLY. I DON'T THINK IT WAS THEIR PLAN TO MAKE A QUICK PROFIT. 2) Agreed 3) You might argue they were being sensible and covering all their bases in case Beneathus walked out. Should never have been made public though. IT WAS ALWAYS GOING TO COME OUT, SO NAIVE IN THEIR APPROACH THAT IT WAS UNTRUE. 4) Oh dear, what a shame, never mind! 5) Someone else might stand a better chance of getting them back in there. NO, NOT AT THIS TIME. AND WHO WOULD FANCY IT RIGHT NOW? YOU DON'T EVEN KNOW WHO IS RUNNING THE CLUB IN THE FUTURE, IT'S A FARCE.
Dunnfc Posted February 19, 2008 Posted February 19, 2008 Hope Liverpool go under give them somthing to go on about other than 5 times and 18 titles. Hate the fans and hate the club hate everything they stand for, il never forgive fat raffa for screwing us for Bellamy.
joey_big_nose Posted February 19, 2008 Posted February 19, 2008 Too true. What kind of lunatic would take over a club where the ownership could change radically at any moment. They would probably have to look at relatively untested managers to do it- I doubt the likes of Hughes, Redknapp, Sven, O'Neill would want it on those terms- let alone the big European names. Maybe they could bring back Souness in a Kevin Keegan style blast from the past?

Hate the fans and hate the club hate everything they stand for, il never forgive fat raffa for screwing us for Bellamy. Bellamy screwed us not Rafa. You don't pay a tenner for something that costs a fiver. Bellamy wanted the clause. (to be more specific the only thing we got screwed by was Bellamy lying to the fans. Otherwise its all part of contracts these days)
brian_gallagher85 Posted February 19, 2008 Posted February 19, 2008 From the latest news on Bellamy on the injury front, (he will be out for another few months) we look like we got a good deal...only bettered by the one Liverpool got from West Ham
