roverich Posted August 21, 2008 Posted August 21, 2008 thats the only problem, when money ceases to be a problem you end up paying over the odds and tend to get ripped off. if we had been a top four club we wouldnt have signed samba/nelson/santa cruz/mccarthy etc for the price we got them for. we dont want to end up like sunderland here! williams will pay what he is worth and no more I fully understand that but on the flip side we have been very lucky in paying way under the odds for players like Samba, Nelsen, Santa Cruz and McCarthy (based on his first season anyway) and I'm sure everyone would agree the first three at least would have been worth considerably more than what we paid. I just hope that this desire for every transfer to be an excellent deal for us doesn't prohibit us from going for better quality and better known players.

thenodrog Posted August 21, 2008 Posted August 21, 2008 People have very short memories as the term "big four" is only about 4 years old and was the Big 3 until Roman came along. Chelsea were a mid table team before 2003 Big 2 in 94.
Valois Posted August 21, 2008 Posted August 21, 2008 Nicko, is it true that zigic was at ewood yesterday to discuss a potential loan move? Do you know who the other right wnger we are looking at are?
LeChuck Posted August 21, 2008 Posted August 21, 2008 If you are only interested in what Nicko has to say and not discussion then read the pinned topic "Nicko's News Ticker". That's exactly what it's there for. I think you've completel missed the point. It's nothing to do with that, it's to do with keeping different conversations separate so that they're easy to follow. For example, there was a fairly large conversation on here last night about Villanueva's picture on the official site. It wasn't anything to do with this topic, or anything being asked of Nicko, and therefore should have been posted in Villanueva's topic. Simple things like that will make the whole board a lot better. Edit: And yes, I do appreciate the irony of breaking all those rules to post that.
TrentVilla Posted August 21, 2008 Posted August 21, 2008 Villa fans going on about their perfect owner who spends from his own savings on top players is getting as tedious as their delusions of breaking into the so called "big four" I can't wait until they start putting up ticket prices to pay for their lavish summer spending on the likes of Shorey, Young and Sidwell. The arrogance of writing off teams around them like Blackburn, who have a team just as capable of pushing for a European spot, just sums them up. Actually my season ticket at Villa cost £265 this season for an adult ticket right behind the goal. Despite the constant investment by Randy Lerner we still enjoy some of the best prices in the league.
Silencio Posted August 21, 2008 Posted August 21, 2008 Nicko, is it true Keane/Sunderland are going to offer 5 million for Carlton Cole? He is terrible in the transfer market.
gazsimm Posted August 21, 2008 Posted August 21, 2008 Nicko, is it true Keane/Sunderland are going to offer 5 million for Carlton Cole? He is terrible in the transfer market. if Calton Cole is worth 5 million i will show my bottom on the town hall steps. Rocky must be worth at least 30 million, if Cole goes for 5 million
rovers_123 Posted August 21, 2008 Posted August 21, 2008 Nicko I see that Bolton want Bullard is that likely to happen? Id know hes had his injury problems but id love him at Rovers. Has there been even a small bit of interest from Rovers?

Has there been even a small bit of interest from Rovers? I think Bullard is an excellent midfielder but I seem to remember Nicko saying something about there being insurance issues following his serious knee injury.
joey_big_nose Posted August 21, 2008 Posted August 21, 2008 Bulls**t. Pure Benni bashing. That isn't him saying he isn't up for fighting, but he is 31 years old and has a great career and obviously feels that he needs to actually be playing. I think everyone can respect that. If he sees a realistic chance of being in the first 11 then he's happy to stay, if he's viewed as a sub then he'd obviously prefer to be elsewhere. I think his comments are very good. I wasn't Benni bashing. I said his comments are fair enough. He doesn't have a future at Rovers, if we get offered money we will trade up. My whole point is he needs to be at a club which can build their attack around his lack of mobility. We don't want to do that.
Cally Posted August 21, 2008 Posted August 21, 2008 Actually my season ticket at Villa cost £265 this season for an adult ticket right behind the goal. Despite the constant investment by Randy Lerner we still enjoy some of the best prices in the league. They have to keep prices low otherwise they'd never fill the ground. They can't fill it as it is, despite all your mega bucks spending, which isn't that much in todays climate. Amazing what good PR can do. You're dreaming if you think Lerner has spent a penny of his own dosh. You, like all fans, will eventually foot the bill.
Gally Posted August 21, 2008 Posted August 21, 2008 Cole is just a poor man's Jason Roberts. £5 million for him is ridiculous, sounds like a perfect Sunderland signing.
nicko Posted August 21, 2008 Posted August 21, 2008 Nice to be recognised for your work eh Nicko Football 365 Mediawatch Well, as some people know...it was at the time. Still, maybe one day I will get a job in an office and spend my life reading other people's stories. How many have Mediawatch broken this year? Don;t bother counting. Nicko, is it true that zigic was at ewood yesterday to discuss a potential loan move? Do you know who the other right wnger we are looking at are? I haven't heard that, but I will check.
ebenrocks Posted August 21, 2008 Posted August 21, 2008 Cole is just a poor man's Jason Roberts. £5 million for him is ridiculous, sounds like a perfect Sunderland signing. wasnt Roberts being touted to sunderland in January or early summer for something around 5 million? Cole is half the player Jason Roberts is.

Thats not the point of mediawatch though is it? It's there to give us all a smile and keep the fourth estate relatively honest (ish). Plus I bet when someone else gets stung it gets posted up all over the place

Gally Posted August 21, 2008 Posted August 21, 2008 I think it was a tad under 5 million, so anyone thinking to pay more than that for Cole is astounding. Just think, they could have Chopra and Cole upfront for a combined 10 million!, or another way 3 Roques
American Posted August 21, 2008 Posted August 21, 2008 This has didly squat to do with this thread, villa fans talking about the price of their season tickets. As qouted before by one of the Moderators, this forum is strictly for asking Nicko questions. So, Nicko (and Valois): How is this post not hypocritical, as he isn't asking a question?
JAL Posted August 21, 2008 Posted August 21, 2008 Nicko, Whats all that about your fellow scots booing the Northern Ireland national anthem at Hampden last night.
Flopsy Posted August 21, 2008 Posted August 21, 2008 I didn't think there was one. I'm glad you're not bitter about this and are taking it in the spirit it was meant If its any consolation, I think the Sun's guy (Anton something?) is keeping his head down at the moment meaning you head came into view. Go on write them a snotty letter complaining about why they're wrong
Torgeir Posted August 21, 2008 Posted August 21, 2008 I'm sorry if it has been mentioned but have we actually made an enquiry about Joaquin? And have we made enquiries about any other players or are we currently just scouting? I hope Benni is eager to show Ince what he can do - that's the only way he'll ever start scoring for us again. If his attitude stays the same as last season then there's not much light at the end of the tunnel. I know he's a poacher but we just haven't got the luxury of him running around with a pie in each hand waiting for a sitter.
sparkspakespoke Posted August 21, 2008 Posted August 21, 2008 Man City to sign Kompany??? I thought they were skint, or is this a paltry ammount down with mor debt on the club?
nicko Posted August 21, 2008 Posted August 21, 2008 Man City to sign Kompany??? I thought they were skint, or is this a paltry ammount down with mor debt on the club? Man City will be selling a player or two very shortly...
