thenodrog Posted July 8, 2009 Posted July 8, 2009 I think you are being unfair on JW 'drog. These things are usually collective board decisions. I'm not being unfair on JW but I am being hard on him philip. And why not? How the hell Ince was he even considered for the post before an interview never mind after leaves me absolutely gobsmacked. He is not intelligent enough and his personality and character are not strong enough to even be considered management material. A lot of posters on here who were quite positive about the appointment ( ) had serious misgivings straight after his press conference so how the hell JW could consider him after a series of interviews is amazing............. and more than a taj concerning.

jim mk2 Posted July 8, 2009 Posted July 8, 2009 I have reason to believe that JW very nearly took the incredibly brave decision of sacking Ince before a ball had been kicked, News to me. Sources ? Quotes ?
Kelbo Posted July 8, 2009 Posted July 8, 2009 News to me. Sources ? Quotes ? Well, I for one was very concerned about the teams performances in pre season out in Austria etc!1 So what have you heard Philip??
thenodrog Posted July 8, 2009 Posted July 8, 2009 News to me. Sources ? Quotes ? Is that your version of investigative journalism? If Gunner does have info from on the inside he's not going to tell you on here is he?
Anti-Dingle-Brigade Posted July 8, 2009 Posted July 8, 2009 Phillipl is just intentionally spreading untruths to make himself look informed. And didn't we have a crappy pre-season in 94/95? Sack Kenny.
deryck guyler's spoon Posted July 8, 2009 Posted July 8, 2009 Is that your version of investigative journalism? If Gunner does have info from on the inside he's not going to tell you on here is he? Then why bring it up?
jim mk2 Posted July 8, 2009 Posted July 8, 2009 If Gunner does have info from on the inside he's not going to tell you on here is he? Don't be a sillier billy than usual, Gordon. "I have reason to believe" means nowt unless philip can back it up with some facts. For instance, I could say: "I have reason to believe you are an ignoranamus." Now that would be out of order except I know I am on firm ground with that statement because you confirm it with every post you make.
thenodrog Posted July 8, 2009 Posted July 8, 2009 Then why bring it up? The great nicko comes out with loads of stuff without revealing his sources.... ask him why he does it. Either take gunner (or anybody on here) at face value or ignore him. It's as simple as that. Same advice to you John. You choose not to reveal your bloody name on here...... and woe betide anybody who even breathes it....... yet you demand Gunner names a third party! And you call me thick! Tell you what John, how about this........... Gunners PM'd me with the source privately so if you change your board name to your real name on here I'm sure that he'll allow me to pass it on (by pm only of course). You up for it or will you bottle out? As if I need to ask.
Anti-Dingle-Brigade Posted July 8, 2009 Posted July 8, 2009 The great nicko comes out with loads of stuff without revealing his sources.... ask him why he does it. Either take gunner (or anybody on here) at face value or ignore him. It's as simple as that. Nicko has proven to be right countless times unlike "I am as certain as certain can be Sam Allardyce won't be our manager" Phil. So you may understand the scepticism.
Dunnfc Posted July 8, 2009 Posted July 8, 2009 I think you are being unfair on JW 'drog. These things are usually collective board decisions. Separately from whatever might have been discussed at board level, if one or two people had not decided to shield the reality of what went on at the German training camp from JW, some of which John found out about much later (including Jason Brown the bus driver), the pre-season decision on Ince might have been very different. Spill, what exactley happend in Germany?
bob fleming Posted July 8, 2009 Posted July 8, 2009 Spill, what exactley happend in Germany? That ain't gonna happen Dunnfc. What goes on tour etc I have no reason to doubt philip either. Loads of people heard things. A truly terrible decision to hire Ince. Anyway, we move on. (p.s. Oh look, I've got that avatar back. Cheers Billy!)
T4E Posted July 8, 2009 Posted July 8, 2009 Spill, what exactley happend in Germany? Obviously I wont be giving details, but I'm pretty sure I know what Philip is referring to. Lets just say it would have been enough for you or I to lose our jobs over I'm fairly certain.
jim mk2 Posted July 8, 2009 Posted July 8, 2009 And you call me thick! Not thick, an ignoramus. Look in the dictionary. If philip had gleaned the information from within the club, he could allude to the source without naming anyone. Even someone as simple as yourself should be able to understand that.
deryck guyler's spoon Posted July 8, 2009 Posted July 8, 2009 The great nicko comes out with loads of stuff without revealing his sources.... ask him why he does it. Either take gunner (or anybody on here) at face value or ignore him. It's as simple as that. Alan Nixon is a reknown sports journalist. This Phillip geezer is some financial type from Malta.
rovers1995 Posted July 8, 2009 Posted July 8, 2009 We are all Rovers fans so why can't we know what went on on pre season games. I would definitely liike to know what Paul Ince did so wrong that nearly destroyed our club.

beerwins Posted July 8, 2009 Posted July 8, 2009 Wasnt exactly a secret that jason couldnt see over steering wheel
blue phil Posted July 8, 2009 Posted July 8, 2009 As much as I try to feel sorry for Ince for being out of his depth and trying his (woefully inadequate) best even that is impossible. The man comes across as so self-centred and delusional that his interviews are an embarrassment to read. It is actually a bit uncomfortable to read or listen to him as he talks such like, y´o, unfathomable, y´no, crap. And yet he was appointed in the first place by a group of intelligent , well paid professional people . I still fail to see how he can attract so much venom - much of it , sad to say , based upon the bloke's background and education - whilst skirting around the issue of blaming those with the real responsibility for his appointment . I can only think of Kevin Keegan who had the total honesty to admit he had been advanced beyond his capabilities ........and I'm not just talking about football here , either ! And as for Philipl's assertion that JW considered sacking him before a ball was kicked in anger ; well that just proves to me that things could have been a whole lot worse . That would have meant JW's position would have been untenable also .....the press would have crucified him . Time to put the unfortunate episode behind us . Forgive and forget - life's too short .
LeChuck Posted July 8, 2009 Posted July 8, 2009 Exactly how I felt, the guy had nothing going for him. Keith Hill at Rochdale or Simon Grayson would have been just as "good" appointments. The whole Ince saga shook my faith in our board. If an ex-lower league player had 'achieved' what Ince did with Macclesfield and MK Dons the board wouldn't have looked twice at him, he wouldn't have been in the running. It was ludicrous to thrust him in to the job on the back of his playing career. Edit: Phil, Sbragia admitted there were elements of the job he had no idea about when he got the Sunderland job and gracefully stood down at the end of the season.
blue phil Posted July 8, 2009 Posted July 8, 2009 Wasnt exactly a secret that jason couldnt see over steering wheel Good God. Is this the infamous incident that everyone's so scared of mentioning ? Hardly worth mentioning to Williams really ......
FourLaneBlue Posted July 8, 2009 Posted July 8, 2009 I still fail to see how he can attract so much venom - much of it , sad to say , based upon the bloke's background and education - whilst skirting around the issue of blaming those with the real responsibility for his appointment . I can only think of Kevin Keegan who had the total honesty to admit he had been advanced beyond his capabilities ........and I'm not just talking about football here , either ! You have got the wrong end of the stick there Phil even though I did mention the very irritating y´knows. Personally I don´t give a damn about his education or even how he speaks. It is WHAT he says that gets me annoyed. Nothing was his fault, no attempt to take any part of the blame at all but just excuse after excuse. I do not expect a grovelling apology but his inability to even admit he made any mistakes at all yet is happy to heap blame on others is what riles.
broadsword Posted July 8, 2009 Posted July 8, 2009 Allied to the fact that I don't think his heart was ever in the job.
FourLaneBlue Posted July 8, 2009 Posted July 8, 2009 Time to put the unfortunate episode behind us . Forgive and forget - life's too short . In the end it worked out very well for Sam Allardyce. Last summer when - yes this is me saying I told you so - I and others wanted him appointed there was also a vociferous opposition and that was not just those who joined the Facebook group. Ince had so messed up by the time he left that there were few opposition voices in protest as we were so desperate. So the interim period did have a use. Furthermore the players he brought in have a chance to turn into decent - if underwhelming - buys. Grella is the least convincing but must surely have a better season. Robinson for Freidel looks a damn good deal in the long term IF he carries on getting back to what he was. Andrews is a solid enough backup player and a good pro. That leaves only the others that were failures - Fowler, Simpson, Villanueva - and two of those were loans and one a free. So...Rovers have somehow, considering the position we were in back in December, not done too badly out of the Ince affair. Sure we had to pay to sack him and his buddies but considering where we were...2009 has been a very good year overall so far.
