Anti-Dingle-Brigade Posted May 29, 2009 Posted May 29, 2009 It's just insurance, Barca do it as well with ludicrously high release clauses.

scotchrover Posted May 29, 2009 Posted May 29, 2009 50 mill Euro's clause in Fernandez contract, no thank you then. Jeez, where do these clubs get their valuations from! I think most of the clubs abroad just think we'll pay it because where British. For example when you go on holiday to spain, they charge you €4/€5 for a drink in some places and most of us decide to pay. However i think sam and the board will have other ideas with that clause in the contract.
Anti-Dingle-Brigade Posted May 29, 2009 Posted May 29, 2009 Sam is in Spain at the weekend... Relentless Bojan hope lives on.
BuckyRover Posted May 29, 2009 Posted May 29, 2009 Every player in spain has a release clause. It is to do with employment law. To negate it they set the clauses really high
roverseas Posted May 29, 2009 Posted May 29, 2009 50 mill Euro's clause in Fernandez contract, no thank you then. Jeez, where do these clubs get their valuations from! I'm pretty sure there used to be a rule in Spain that players had to have a buyout clause in their contract, that's why they're always ridiculously high. Means nothing.

hi-jaq Posted May 29, 2009 Posted May 29, 2009 Sam is in Spain at the weekend... I hope that he's seriously having a look at Fernandez... Is he really intrested??? what do you think Nicko???
TimmyJimmy Posted May 29, 2009 Posted May 29, 2009 hows about a shout for a certain ex Southampton winger/striker who doesn't seem to figure much in Arsenal's first team young, fast, quality and no one knows he's available come on Nicko enough is enough, spill the beans.
CAPT KAYOS Posted May 29, 2009 Posted May 29, 2009 Nothing to do with the fact that im Northern Irish, but I reckon Chris Brunt would be a great signing. He has had a fairly good season personally and he looked the part at Ewood. He could have scored a great goal too only for Robbo to match his effort. Anyone agree at all? His name has cropped up on here a few times - including from myself Decent player in my book and well within our range if he would come.
Guest benmaxwell Posted May 29, 2009 Posted May 29, 2009 Beckford is poor - if he was good enough, a championship team would of snapped him up by now, never mind Premierleague. The only lad at Leeds with a really bright future is that young midfielder Fabian Delph. Beckford is quality. He just needs a kick squarly in the footballs to get him motivated... He is one of those players who, if he could get his act together, could be brilliant. His scoring record when settled does not lie. If we could get him on reasonable wages and for a reasonable fee, i would not be upset... On a sidenote, a partnership of him and Darren Bent would present a very fomidable frontline...
The Rover of Finland Posted May 29, 2009 Posted May 29, 2009 Sam is in Spain at the weekend... Nicko, I find two reasons Big Sam to be at Santander..
EwoodGlory Posted May 29, 2009 Posted May 29, 2009 Nicko, I find two reasons Big Sam to be at Santander.. 1. Depositing his £1m bonus cheque 2. Asking for Rovers overdraft to be increased
Anti-Dingle-Brigade Posted May 29, 2009 Posted May 29, 2009 Zigic is the obvious target but he isn't the mystery one because he's been around for ages. Could be a Roque replacement though. And sadly () it's not Bojan because the Barca game is off.
Commondore Posted May 29, 2009 Posted May 29, 2009 I know I'm just throwing names around now, but what about James Morrisson for our poor right wing position? I haven't really seen him that much this season, but he impressed me on occassion when playing for 'Boro and might very well prosper from playing in a bit more organized and secure surroundings than at West Brom...
broadsword Posted May 29, 2009 Posted May 29, 2009 He's notr been the same since "Return of the Mack"
Guest benmaxwell Posted May 29, 2009 Posted May 29, 2009 Couple of interesting snippets from 'msnfootball365.com': 10 - Roque Santa Cruz Let's begin with the qualifications. Santa Cruz scored just four league goals in 2008/09, hasn't played since March and is currently recovering from a minor knee operation. And no operation on a knee can truly be considered a minor matter. Nevertheless, Cruz will be on the move this summer - he wants out of Rovers and Rovers want an end of his agitating - and the centre-forward will not be short of offers. As an old-fashioned leader-of-the-line type, Santa Cruz is one of a rare breed these days and his haul of 19 league goals two seasons ago means that the Paraguayan has 'Proven Premier League Pedigree' stamped on his CV. Harry Redknapp, who will need a 'Big Man' partner for Robbie Keane and/or Jermain Defoe after seemingly losing faith with Darren Bent and Roman Pavlyuchenko, is expected to be at the front of the queue. Manchester City's interest is longstanding but may be on the wane, while Cruz, for a fee of £10m, could also be a money-producing replacement for the reputedly-£25m-valued Emmanuel Adebayor at Arsenal. Sunderland are outside shots if their imminent takeover is as well-funded as reported. Our bet: Tottenham. ------------------------ 9 - David Bentley The Flop of the Year, but good players, especially ones under the age of 25, don't become bad players over the course of a Manchester City and Aston Villa have already been mentioned as possible destinations, and, if not, why not a like-for-like replacement for Jermaine Pennant at Portsmouth? A return to Blackburn isn't entirely out of the question either, but it's a shame that Everton are short of funds because Bentley could fit a profitable bill for them. Our bet: Manchester City. http://msn.football365.com/story/0,17033,8...5350442,00.html Oh and in reply to Nicko's post, im pretty sure Sam's gone over to see either the Athletico Madrid vs Almeria game, or the Racing Santander vs Getafe game...
Iceman Posted May 29, 2009 Posted May 29, 2009 It looks as if Sam wants to get his signings done, as soon as possible and avoid the late rush come deadline day. This is very good and will allow all the new players, a full pre season and to get to know the rest of the squad. Well played Big Sam.
roverseas Posted May 29, 2009 Posted May 29, 2009 Let's hold our horses until we actually sign someone, Iceman ;D
andyroversmad Posted May 29, 2009 Posted May 29, 2009 I hope Sam is in Spain to watch Matías Fernández. Nicko any chance ?
nicko Posted May 29, 2009 Posted May 29, 2009 I hope Sam is in Spain to watch Matías Fernández. Nicko any chance ? If he is playing...might be the target. Only thing is Sam likes them bigger and stronger. Of course, he could just be over watching Dos Cervezas...
AJW Posted May 29, 2009 Posted May 29, 2009 nicko LET said big sam had been watching players in france and milan?? , the french link we know about , but do you know anything about the milan spying mission
nicko Posted May 29, 2009 Posted May 29, 2009 nicko LET said big sam had been watching players in france and milan?? , the french link we know about , but do you know anything about the milan spying mission He has been watching players in France - not sure about the Milan thing.
Gus Gus Posted May 29, 2009 Posted May 29, 2009 Is there any reason to believe that Fernandez would be anything other than Carlos Villanueva Mk II? I know that Fernandez has played in Spain, but I remain skeptical.
