Amo Posted April 20, 2010 Posted April 20, 2010 A lot of harsh criticism for Wenger here. Arsenal have had their three best attacking players missing recently (Fabregas, Van Persie, Arshavin) and yesterday had their first choice defensive partnership missing (Gallas, Vermaelen), as well as their best defensive midfielder (Song). That's like taking Drogba, Anelka/Malouda, Lampard, Essien, Terry and Carvalho out of Chelsea, or Rooney, Fletcher, Vidic, Ferdinand (I can't think who their other best two attackers would be!) out of Utd. Isn't that the point of being a top side - Strength in depth? Chelsea coped very well when they lost a whole bunch of players to the African Nations. The players Wenger has signed for the first team AND in reserve have not been good enough. It's not like anyone is criticizing him for one, two, or three seasons of barren success. It's over five years since they won a single trophy. That's not good enough for a club of their size.

tony gale's mic Posted April 20, 2010 Posted April 20, 2010 Would be outstanding but nigh on impossible, most exciting player at ewood since shearer and won us many games almost single handedly. Bellamy was great but I'd put Damien Duff even higher than Bellamy. Anyway he's 31 now isn't he? He'll be losing some of that pace...
FourLaneBlue Posted April 21, 2010 Posted April 21, 2010 Anyway he's 31 now isn't he? He'll be losing some of that pace... Craig Bellamy is 31?!? Bloody hell...I must be getting old. Always thought of him as a younger lad...never an older statesman type. EDIT - Just checked. He is 30, but even still...
RibbleValleyRover Posted April 21, 2010 Posted April 21, 2010 Portsmouth administrators reveal club debts of £120m Much higher than the £60-70m that was reported when they went into administration.
BlueWhiteDynamite Posted April 21, 2010 Posted April 21, 2010 it's interesting that they still owe players wages! a lot less publicised than previously. No chance of Europe for them then.
47er Posted April 21, 2010 Posted April 21, 2010 FC United to build own ground at Newton Heath. http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/david-conn-inside-sport-blog/2010/apr/21/fc-united-supporter-owned-clubs
Amo Posted April 21, 2010 Posted April 21, 2010 Apparently, Fergie would like David Moyes to succeed him at OT. http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/sport/football/article2359781.ece
CrazyIvan Posted April 21, 2010 Posted April 21, 2010 Apparently, Fergie would like David Moyes to succeed him at OT. http://www.thesun.co...icle2359781.ece I reckon that would be a good shout actually. Moyes probably has the nous to succeed Ferguson and make a damn good fist of it.
philipl Posted April 21, 2010 Author Posted April 21, 2010 If you want to read the whole Pompey horror story, Here is the document itself courtesy the Guardian.
thenodrog Posted April 21, 2010 Posted April 21, 2010 Apparently, Fergie would like David Moyes to succeed him at OT. http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/sport/football/article2359781.ece I said on here that when Moyes left Preston that his intention would be to succeed Ferguson. A promising lower keague manager who needed to transfer his performance to a team in the Prem. He's done that.
nicko Posted April 21, 2010 Posted April 21, 2010 If you want to read the whole Pompey horror story, Here is the document itself courtesy the Guardian. Been going through that for hours. Never seen anything like it. Do they actually OWN any of the players they have and what are they paying some. Mind-boggling. Paying fortunes every month to Udinese for Muntari - who they sold to Inter Milan - and Belhadj's club AND Dindane's club. As for the wages...some players are down on the list twice and others, who have been sold, are still seemingly being paid huge chunks. Absolutely outrageous.
philipl Posted April 21, 2010 Author Posted April 21, 2010 It is a long time since I last read a document which left me almost incapable of taking the contents in. I don't know where to start. The end is a massive massive hit for anyone and everyone associated with Pompey now. The BBC very inadequately try to explain. That near £3m for Diarra's agent should silence the folks still beating up on Rovers for not signing him. Pompey were splashing it about in inconceivable ways- no way could Rovers have competed nor SHOULD THEY HAVE.
BlueWhiteDynamite Posted April 21, 2010 Posted April 21, 2010 all you can say is wow! late transfer interest payments of £200,000, they owe crouch, johnson and Distin nearly £800,000 between them. and the rest.... They have no chance of every paying these fees for players. I'm quite supprised ocean finance isn't listed in there!
The Rover of Finland Posted April 21, 2010 Posted April 21, 2010 Wow! What a double save by Friedel! And Collins blocked the third shot. What a miss by Kilbane.
Hughesy Posted April 21, 2010 Posted April 21, 2010 1-0 Villa at half time - not looking good for Hull is it! West Ham are going to escape again
mickbrown Posted April 21, 2010 Posted April 21, 2010 1-0 Villa at half time - not looking good for Hull is it! West Ham are going to escape again Fingers crossed
deryck guyler's spoon Posted April 22, 2010 Posted April 22, 2010 Fingers crossed Hull looked like they've jacked it in. Between you and The Yahoos now. GOOD LUCK!!!
Hughesy Posted April 22, 2010 Posted April 22, 2010 If West Ham beat Wigan at the weekend then id say thats it over at the bottom for Hull & Dingles. Going off the comments last night - looks like Hull will be in big trouble if they lose the premier league cash - a wage bill of £40m already!
Exiled_Rover Posted April 22, 2010 Posted April 22, 2010 Hull didn't deserve to stay up last season so karma's caught up to them.
Hughesy Posted April 22, 2010 Posted April 22, 2010 Nimley rejected by Rovers prior to joining City Looks like we missed a talent there!!
philipl Posted April 22, 2010 Author Posted April 22, 2010 I see Pompey's appeal to play in the Europa League next season has rightly been squashed. Liverpool can now squeak in in 7th whilst Everton will be hoping they can squeeze into 7th making Liverpool dependent on winning the Europa to qualify next season. Meantime Fulham are sitting pretty in the Fair Play spot.
cn174 Posted April 22, 2010 Posted April 22, 2010 FC United to build own ground at Newton Heath. http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/david-conn-inside-sport-blog/2010/apr/21/fc-united-supporter-owned-clubs Gonna be a bit empty when Glazer eventually leaves united and they all go back to supporting Man U!
Hughesy Posted April 22, 2010 Posted April 22, 2010 Anyone watch Liverpool game? Must comment on the ref, probably the best one iv seen in a long time!
