nicko Posted August 26, 2009 Posted August 26, 2009 nicko article Blackburn boss Sam Allardyce is swooping for Middlesbrough's England Under-21 left-back Andrew Taylor and hopes to pull off a £2million deal I believe that is the first time I have scooped myself.
Fylde Coast Fan Posted August 26, 2009 Posted August 26, 2009 England U21 for £2m, not at all unhappy with that. Should leave a whopping £3m to vanish under the rug though.
andyroversmad Posted August 26, 2009 Posted August 26, 2009 So if we get Chimbonda and Taylor does that mean we get the £ 4 million left to spend on a midfielder ?

Ricky Posted August 26, 2009 Posted August 26, 2009 I've heard good things about Taylor, did Adam Johnson sign a new contract in the end, wouldn't mind a double deal with him as well.
insiderover79 Posted August 26, 2009 Posted August 26, 2009 I believe that is the first time I have scooped myself. Have to say great story Nicko, lets hope the people who are tentative are won over tomorrow or by the deadline at least.
nicko Posted August 26, 2009 Posted August 26, 2009 So if we get Chimbonda and Taylor does that mean we get the £ 4 million left to spend on a midfielder ? I think some of the Warnock money has been spent already...on Salgado's wages. There could be scope for a midfielder. But think we should leave that until tomorrow. Got to stress that Taylor is not a done deal yet. It's at the early stages, but from my info he is favourite for the left back vacancy. But favourites do get beaten.
niggit Posted August 26, 2009 Posted August 26, 2009 Let's see what tomorrow brings, butas for a midfielder, i doubt it. The money will vanish, or maybe kept for jan if needed?
nicko Posted August 26, 2009 Posted August 26, 2009 I've heard good things about Taylor, did Adam Johnson sign a new contract in the end, wouldn't mind a double deal with him as well. Not yet, but he is very expensive and has a high opinion of himself.
67splitscreen Posted August 26, 2009 Posted August 26, 2009 11 o'clock and all is well...what a good film Taken is - first DVD I've seen in ages...and Spurs ht/ft was candy from a bookie. Anyway. ..Bamba went missing at Hibs tonight, but he has gone home to Paris for two days. Enrique is also a bit expensive. No doubt meeting Liverpools representatives. Just been speaking with a few Hibbies they say his head has been turned by his agent, who says Liverpool and two French clubs are after him, Lorient and Grenoble. No mention of us other than todays links.

The Bosnian signing would be brilliant - I know its only you tube but he was a proper footballer
LeChuck Posted August 26, 2009 Posted August 26, 2009 Taylor would be a cracking signing, that would really soften the blow of Warnock leaving for me. Potentially I think he could be a better player than Warnock, he's certainly impressed me whenever I've seen him.

No mention of us other than todays links. Bamba has definitely been given a couple of days off. Hibs would sell. I know that for a fact. Rovers liked him after the pre-season game and watched him at the weekend. But I think the Chimbonda move ends that one. However in this window you never can tell.
hi-jaq Posted August 26, 2009 Posted August 26, 2009 Fair enough with the Andrew Taylor thing... from what I've seen of him in the past he looks quite good, not too slow & willing to go in for a tackle, not a bad shout I dont think. For me this begs the question... What will happen with young Martin Olsson??? I dont know of anyone on here that rates him as a fullback as his defensive qualities are not that bright. But I would be tempted to push him further forward to challenge Pedersen, the boy has bags of pace, a decent touch maybe his crossing could be improved, but he's only young, there is definately room for improvement & for me that might be an option to try. I like the look of him... I just hope that if we do sign cover for left back, we dont push his nose out & then let him go at the end of the season. I reckon if that happens he might just come good (playing at either fullback or on the wing) and we may come to regret it!!!
Jackson Posted August 26, 2009 Posted August 26, 2009 Nicko, Re. your earlier article. Is there still an interest in Benni?
nicko Posted August 26, 2009 Posted August 26, 2009 Nicko, Re. your earlier article. Is there still an interest in Benni? Ajax have an interest, but that is a hard one to arrange...they wouldn't want to pay a big fee, Rovers would want good money and he is on big wages. It really comes down to how badly out-of-favour he is with Sam. If he is not going to play you might as well get rid... I don't think Ajax have signed anyone yet, so the door seems to be open.
Al Posted August 26, 2009 Posted August 26, 2009 Let's see what tomorrow brings, butas for a midfielder, i doubt it. The money will vanish, or maybe kept for jan if needed? When money vanishes at this club it vanishes for ever. Don't expect it to resurface in January.
nicko Posted August 26, 2009 Posted August 26, 2009 When money vanishes at this club it vanishes for ever. Don't expect it to resurface in January. If you sign Chimbonda, Givet, N'Zonzi, Kalinic and possibly Taylor in the window - plus Hoilett's full-time wages and Di Santo's loan - it is a fair amount of dough. And also a fair amount of progress. An extra midfielder would make it a very good window indeed. Anyway, got to go, got an early date with the Messiah in the morning.

Maybe it is legit, it seems he may have a bit of sweet talking to do with his girlfriend. Stripper
Torgeir Posted August 26, 2009 Posted August 26, 2009 The Bosnian signing would be brilliant - I know its only you tube but he was a proper footballer Player of the year in the Croatian league last season, tipped for a move to a big club sooner or later.
deftangel Posted August 26, 2009 Posted August 26, 2009 I am pleased with the defensive readjustment but surely Nicko, we've had two in, two out. Gallagher & Warnock gone; Chimbonda & the Boro lad in. This must offset the wages equation somewhat no? If not balancing it out, we've made 4m surplus on the Warnock sale, it can't *all* have gone on Selgado's wages. He was coming in regardless before Warnock was leaving.
Tyrone Shoelaces Posted August 26, 2009 Posted August 26, 2009 Fair enough with the Andrew Taylor thing... from what I've seen of him in the past he looks quite good, not too slow & willing to go in for a tackle, not a bad shout I dont think. I reckon if that happens he might just come good (playing at either fullback or on the wing) and we may come to regret it!!! Ollsen's got a lot to learn about full back play. From what I hear about his attitude he may not be a good listener, so he may never make the step up there. If Taylor does come in I'd give Ollsen a bit of game time on the wing, as you say he's fast and he can get at people.
Fife Rover Posted August 26, 2009 Posted August 26, 2009 I watched Sol Bamba throughout his time at Dunfermline in the SPL, and he was good enough once he settled in. But that was all; I certainly would not think he is good enough for the Rovers. He looks and plays like Samba, but he is not as quick as Samba nor as good in the tackle. In fact he is very prone to giving penalties away with rash tackling. I would say he would probably be a decent Championship player, but no more than that.
