Ricky Posted July 23, 2010 Author Posted July 23, 2010 Still an omission of Klose or Heskey there Nicko.... go on, please be Klose. (you don't have to reply Nicko, just give us a few minutes to actually believe that we have a decent target in mind)

Backroom Tom Posted July 23, 2010 Backroom Posted July 23, 2010 SO , who's an experienced goalscorer capable of playing up front on his own and is available for 2.5m ?
RoverRich Posted July 23, 2010 Posted July 23, 2010 I am hearing Benjani has failed a medical or two elsewhere in the past couple of weeks...so I don't think he will be coming to Rovers. Beattie is still a fall-back. But there seems to be someone who could fit the bill in terms of experience, stature and price. Just wonder about his wages... Looking at Nicko's original quote I think we can rule out Beattie as the one we are after as he is the 'fall-back' option. Raul may be a possibility but I just can't see it happening with the money he would want and with other teams after him. Tottenham have been linked with him recently and I think that would be the kind of club he would go to. However, I would not say no to him as he is a legend and probably still a class player but he would have to play up front alongside Niko, not on his own. Niko could learn a lot from someone like him and become a better player as a result. Ok, so Nicko has now ruled both of them out. Looks like it could be a fairly surprise name but hopefully worth it!
den Posted July 23, 2010 Posted July 23, 2010 Depends what list of targets he's on Den. If he's on one with Klose and Raul then obviously he's not an option. If he's on a list with Benjani and heskey then maybe he becomes more appealing. Not even sure about that TBH. At least Benjani would want the ball to feet. Football, football, football - that's what we want. Ball on ground and all that. None of this up in the air to a big front man that both Heskey and Beattie would encourage. Anyway, preferably it will be a different list.
Iceman Posted July 23, 2010 Posted July 23, 2010 Depends whether we want to score goals Iceman. We need two strikers, before the beginning of the season. point i was making, is that we would still have time to look before the window closes. 3 good results in the 1st 3 games before the window closes, without having signed a striker would be very good. So im going to remain positive, even though its very difficult in the current circumstances.

Billy Castell Posted July 23, 2010 Posted July 23, 2010 Zaki, Vieri, Mido, Aliadtare (the ex-Arsenal guy at Boro), Portillo (ex-Real Madrid), Morientes. Those are my guesses.
Majiball Posted July 23, 2010 Posted July 23, 2010 Den, what are you on about Heskey has great feet: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tHJQaKzYkb0
RoverRich Posted July 23, 2010 Posted July 23, 2010 What about Raul Tamudo? Weren't we once linked with him? Can't see him playing much for Espanyol (if he is still there), should be fairly cheap, experienced and a decent player, although a little older now.
den Posted July 23, 2010 Posted July 23, 2010 Den, what are you on about Heskey has great feet: Size 14 I believe. Heskey isn't the worst in the world, but we don't need another goals shy striker.

I know you don't rate him Den but Kalinic has shown if the ball is played to his feet he can hold it up and lay it off to other players, of course they have to support him to make it work. We play a more back to front aerial game, if that's the way Sam wants to play we might as well get a 6 foot 5 + big man that is great in the air.
beerwins Posted July 23, 2010 Posted July 23, 2010 Amazing that we are all getting exited at signing someone and that includes me Who can we get with our mighty 2.5 million that will change our goalscoring problems? The mind boggles.
M2XLY Posted July 23, 2010 Posted July 23, 2010 Has anyone mentioned a deal from our Manchester friends? Thinking maybe Berbatov on loan?
Amo Posted July 23, 2010 Posted July 23, 2010 How about Oyvind Hoas? 27 year-old, 6'8" striker currently playing in Norway. Cheap as chips!

I don't think we played that game as much in the second half of the season RVR, but I am a believer that simply by playing the big guy up front, the team will rely more on the long ball, particularly when we're under pressure because it's the easy way out for them. Bellamy would demand it to feet, as would any quality striker.
nicko Posted July 23, 2010 Posted July 23, 2010 Zaki time? Usually about an hour after training has started...
AJW Posted July 23, 2010 Posted July 23, 2010 Roberts = striker who doesn't score goals and gives away free-kicks Heskey = striker who doesn't score and WINS free-kicks by throwing himself around now , knowing Sam's love of set-pieces and percentage play i'd be surprised if Heskey hadn't been considered before still think we'll end up with Beattie though
nicko Posted July 23, 2010 Posted July 23, 2010 Rovers ready to bid. Interesting to note that story was written at 12.16...just after the latest chat on here.

Ricky Posted July 23, 2010 Author Posted July 23, 2010 I did note that as well. I was hoping that maybe they would have come up with a name but I guess we'll have to wait until 11.01pm for that to appear on the LET site
