Great find that, Deepdale was full of Rovers fans that cound'nt get tickets for Bristol.

So near yet so far.

What an awful day that was. I will never forget the crush getting through that gap in the wall at Eastlands at the end or the sound of the occasional sobs on the train home.

The 'damage' was done in two of the last four games - Bolton @ home and then Preston away where we got 2 nil nils. That Tuesday night at Preston was horrendous - seem to remember someone clattering the bar in the last 20 minutes when they should have broke the net (maybe it was Marshall Burke or was he the season after). Came off Deepdale thinking we'd blown it and, unfortunately, we had.

This one came close though Matty. Drove down in my mates Austin Allegro, drove off from a service station without paying for the fuel (by accident  ) and joined a queue of blue and white miles away from Bristol. Got home to find the Police waiting and we had to cough up for the juice.

From a time when Rovers felt like it belonged to us....................

Still nothing beats Palace in 89' for gut wrenching failure.

Worst day of my footballing life..... :(

I hate that song

was sat on the coach after the match and we were being goaded by palace fans outside. Not a pleasent journey home.

Yes Eastville.

I think there were three nil nils- there was one against Oldham before we played Bolton.

I think it was Newcastle away. I was there that night. The crowd was only quite sparse as I recall 14,000??

WOW the Geordie Nation not turning up, who would have thought it. Supposedly the greatest fans in on planet Earth. Personally I find they are the most deluded fans long with Spurs fans by a long long way.

a Swansea L 0-2

Was that the game we went to in your Toledo WB? Found that fabulous pub - somewhere near Hereford I think?

Who knew what the next 20 years would hold!

At least George made up for it 3 years later.

I had a feeling of doom when McGoldrick scored at Ewood in the 1st leg

Correct Den.

the White Swan - Eardisland. Beautiful pub & village.

Route & pub recommended by Jim Wilky.

It was a hot, sunny day.

On the way home,we pulled up on Brecon Beacons and all had our butties.

That was a long long drive, Den. I was knackered when we got back.

Still time for a few pints in t'Motors Club though :P

I agree with this sentiment. I like reading these kind of topics, even more so now. There is some really good Rovers footage on You Tube from the 80s; it seems we had great away followings in them days.

As it happens I was 4 years old when we got beat by Palace in 1989. I went to the first leg but my dad didnt want a 4 year old kid with him at the away leg! Il never forget how gutted my dad and his mates were then they returned, and he still hates Palace.

At a time when it does feel like the club is now a franchise, its good to recall these days.
