dubdubdub Posted September 19, 2011 Posted September 19, 2011 No doubt football fans are fickle. But there are many, many fans tha constantly change their views, often after one good or bad result. that's not exactly reassesing a situation rationally, is it? Fine, football fans aren't rational but that applies to both sides of the coin. The fact that he won should have generated a positive response, however, fans are being irrational in their hatred of the man which is stopping them from assessing the situation as it is; on the back of an away draw and a home win.

47er Posted September 19, 2011 Posted September 19, 2011 What was the man supposed to say? Based on the amount who protested then only 1% ish were passionate enough to get off their asses. Hence the other lot who you lot somehow know about, the 90% of fans, could easily be seen as indifferent. Then was he supposed to praise the asses who protested and agree with their motives? Think not. Think. He's manager of Blackburn Rovers---he could show some class for once and rise above it. IMO of course.

I would say the hatred stems from his overall poor record and nearly getting us relegated last season - if he picks up more wins/points over the next few weeks, I am sure the majority will be happy. Some fans are also not happy with the way in which he got the job, however if he was picking up results this would likely not be as much of a problem/issue for some.

Drunx2002 Posted September 19, 2011 Posted September 19, 2011 I really don't understand how anyone could have changed their minds on the manager based on the Arsenal match. At half time, most of the people near me were expecting a battering in the second half. Two of the goals that got us back in the game were scored by Arsenal and the other was debatably offside. After that, despite being 2 goals clear Arsenal scored one, and were very unlucky not to equalise. Other than fixing problems of his own making (our poor fullbacks), I didn't see a whiff of tactical changes really. We still looked jaded in the last 20 minutes compared to Arsenal who seemed much fitter despite playing in midweek, and Yakubu aside, Robinson was our best player. Then, after getting the luckiest of wins, he delivers another cringeworthy TV interview. ALL he has to say is that he's happy with the win, hopes that everyone can pull together now we've got our first victory and acknowledge that wins and points are the best way to keep the fans happy. He doesn't have to mention the protest, or the owners, or claim a shallow victory for himself. Just keep his head down and do what he is being paid to do. I hope this is a new beginning, and we'll reinforce our mid table position over the coming games but I just don't see it. There are probably 19 better managers in the League than Kean, and each and every one of them will know that our fullbacks are the weak link. I'm just glad Walcott stayed on the bench for so long!
Mattyblue Posted September 19, 2011 Posted September 19, 2011 Who 'hates' Kean dubdub? He gets results, he gets folk off his back, it's that simple.
dubdubdub Posted September 19, 2011 Posted September 19, 2011 Who 'hates' Kean dubdub? He gets results, he gets folk off his back, it's that simple. You know people hate Kean. My point is that even if he gets results I doubt people will get off his back because they're shrouded by hatred. There's a post one or two above this which slates the game and the management of the game. Just shows that some people can't accept or enjoy a result with Kean at the helm.
deryck guyler's spoon Posted September 19, 2011 Posted September 19, 2011 It's is clear that some do Matty. The evidence is all over this forum and it now has little to do with results.
den Posted September 19, 2011 Posted September 19, 2011 It's is clear that some do Matty. The evidence is all over this forum and it now has little to do with results. It isn't "hate" DGS, Just a strong dislike - and it's 95% to do with his management and results. Nothing wrong with that.
John Posted September 19, 2011 Posted September 19, 2011 It's is clear that some do Matty. The evidence is all over this forum and it now has little to do with results. It is because throughout his time as manager here, the results have simply not been good enough - as stated too many times, if results improve, I am sure the majority will get off his back and not call for him to be sacked (plus I am sure you will see less personal insults).
Mattyblue Posted September 19, 2011 Posted September 19, 2011 Well if they do 'hate' him, then they need to look at the whole situation with a bit of perspective. It is the owners that have appointed and retained him, any ire should be aimed at them, surely?
FGS5635 Posted September 19, 2011 Posted September 19, 2011 That 1st own goal has probably saved kean his job. The crowd was starting to turn and grumble near me. It could easily have gotten a bit ugly from there. But that shocking own goal got all the fans back on the same page and we managed to kick on then. Hopefully we go on a run now and kean proves us all wrong. i just cant shake the feeling that wont happen. To be fair to kean I cant deny that at times the team can look pretty damm good and shows glimpses of being really good. Its just a bit raw and infrequent at the moment. His signings are exciting going forward. He really needs to improve the shape and defensive structure of the team and this rovers side could be a damm fine one. Its for this reason I find the team/kean so frustrating at the minute.
Backroom Tom Posted September 19, 2011 Backroom Posted September 19, 2011 Glen just had a good showing on SSN, he didn't totally write Kean off and said if he can turn it around then everybodies happy
Drunx2002 Posted September 19, 2011 Posted September 19, 2011 There's a post one or two above this which slates the game and the management of the game. Just shows that some people can't accept or enjoy a result with Kean at the helm. I'm assuming you're referring to my post. I can tell you that I very much enjoyed Saturday, it was everything I hope a football match is going to be every time I go to Ewood. The point I was trying to raise was that a lot of people seem now to be willing to give him time, based on a game and a victory that had little to do with his ability as a manager. I would have more confidence in his ability to turn it around if we'd won 1-0 with a set piece goal and we shut arsenal out with a disciplined midfield and defence. That didn't happen, we were 2-1 down at half time with his starting 11 clearly struggling, and after a lucky period that brought us 3 goals, Arsenal were all over us and had 4 chances to score in the last 5 minutes. If anyone is willing to explain to me how we got those 3 points from managerial ability rather than a big slice of luck, I'll gladly listen. I don't hate Kean. I think he has a job that he doesn't deserve, and I think he's making a mess of it. I also think he should have more respect for the supporters and the club in the way he goes about his business. I'll happily support the manager and chant for him when he has earnt my respect back with points and honesty. But 3 points on Saturday that arrived more by luck than judgement isn't enough. It's a long way short.

chris Posted September 19, 2011 Posted September 19, 2011 Glen just had a good showing on SSN, he didn't totally write Kean off and said if he can turn it around then everybodies happy He's been on TV so much he'll be entering the celebrity Big Brother House soon lol Did he mention anything about Kean's claim that 98% of the fan are happy or were before the Arsenal game, which is obviously not true.
glen9mullan Posted September 19, 2011 Posted September 19, 2011 He's been on TV so much he'll be entering the celebrity Big Brother House soon lol Did he mention anything about Kean's claim that 98% of the fan are happy or where befopre the Arsenal game, which is obviously not true. I addressed this, that as fans we believe in a United front behind team, which is 100% always, and he should not be feeding percentages to us. I applauded the passion he showed during the game and the result, but also pointed out points against United Arsenal and Liverpool are great, but only if we can perform consistantly against the lesser clubs. I'm sure it will be on SSN all day although the version they are playing is smaller and not as in depth as the one they played around 12.40 today
braddock Posted September 19, 2011 Posted September 19, 2011 There's some fickle fans on here. Large change in the percentages.
Mattyblue Posted September 19, 2011 Posted September 19, 2011 Big time. Very clever work by Glenn resetting the poll after each game.
Billy Castell Posted September 19, 2011 Posted September 19, 2011 I still say sack now. We seemed a bit lucky with Arsenal deciding to do a Keystone Cops routine in defence. However it is still good to put one over Wenger so I'm enjoying the result.
super_arran Posted September 19, 2011 Posted September 19, 2011 People saying that the Arsenal result was "lucky"; does that mean it's evened itself out; as the Everton game was unlucky?
JAL Posted September 19, 2011 Posted September 19, 2011 How you can have Martin Olsson sat on the bench whilst your Petrovic, Formica and Jason Lowe's play before him. For me, shows that Kean knows very little about footballers and premier league standards. To have a player with a left wand (Rochina) playing out wide on the left when his strength is putting the ball in the back of the net. Whats Kean thinking !

SIMON GARNERS 194 Posted September 19, 2011 Posted September 19, 2011 We win one game and the poll changes drastically...nowt as fickle as football fans!
Veevs Posted September 19, 2011 Posted September 19, 2011 How you can have Martin Olsson sat on the bench whilst your Petrovic, Formica and Jason Lowe's play before him. To have a player with a left wand (Rochina) playing out wide on the left when his strength is putting the ball in the back of the net. Whats Kean thinking ! Agree there no end.. took two goals and a full half of Givet being tortured for Kean to put on someone who could help cover down the left. Lowe only got shifted to RB after Salgado hobbled off.. which helped us no end as without cover Salgados pace is a liability. Happy as anyone with the win but I wish the people talking about how great we played would leave it out.. we played awful for more than half of the match.. one great spell at the beginning of the second half does not tell the full story. I have a feeling allot of the people who voted for Kean on this poll watched just the highlights of the match which did not show the true extent of Arsenals utter domination for more than 60-70mins of the match, hell they had 57% of posession at Ewood, 16 shots on target (we had 5) scoring 3, 13 corners (we had 2).. yes we got unlucky at Everton but overall in that game we only just won the battle for posession (51%) we only had 2 shots on goal more than Everton and while we happened to be the better team on the day the margins where not as big as Arsenals domination in this match. Very happy we won and ejoyed the specticle, but if we continue to play like that we will get hammered more than I can care to imagine, and will age beyong recognition by the time the season ends. Whatever happens if we stick to the starting 11 we had today we will be relegated.. If Kean changes his tactics and understands that you need cover for your fullbacks, that we need to play with two defensive midfielders to cover for the lightweight but exciting attacking midfielders we have (and the fact that they are kids so neither Nzonzi nor Petrovic can as yet do the role solo) and fully understands that Roberts is an utter donkey then without a doubt he will turn the results and fans around and I would not be suprised if we managed to drag ourselves into the top half. Based on Keans choices so far I am not sure he will realise these issues need addressing and we will see the same routine week in week out rather than him taking note of our best games and realising that is why we did well in them. One thing is certain although not at our best we got a win and vital experience for a side with an average age of less than 25 so if Kean can get his tactics right and we survive the season the future is looking very bright.
