Can't help feeling once is enough for Bothroyd. Was complete gashflaps most of his career, aside from his time at Cardiff. He probably wants fairly big wages too.

QPR have just released Bothroyd. Did very well at this level with Cardiff and could be a very good foil for Rhodes.

As long as he doesn't kick out at an opponent in the corner again...

I'm not sure how that would work though. The only way it could possibly work is to play diagonal balls into Bothroyd and have Rhodes sniff around for any knock-downs. That's pretty primitive stuff though and very easy to defend against.

As Rhodes likes to play on the shoulder and as close to the goal as possible, his ideal partner is one that would run the channels, drop deep to make room and look to play through balls for him. When Rochina wasn't losing possession or making the wrong decision he did some of these things well (particularly dropping deep and playing through balls).

I don't think Rhodes had a good game when he was playing with Best. That's because they faced the issue that Bothroyd would also face - far too easy to defend against.

Best is pretty poor in the air though. It could work well with a decent target man.

Morris looked a totally different player towards the end of the season. Bulked up and more confident. He could easily make left back his own this year.

We won't miss Olsson at left back.

He was terrible on loan at Sheffield Wednesday last season. He got loads of stick from there fans then went on twitter and abused them all. I'd steer clear of him.

I personally don't think we will add to the strikers unless he can offload Gomes and or goodwille.

Play Jack O'Connell at left back, he's not good enough in the air for CB.

Is he fast enough for left back ?

Don't think it's worth us getting into a big debate again here, but I do find that ironic given that you championed Givet for centre back! :)

Givet's not too small to be a centre-back. He's too small to be a ball-winning CB.

In March two seasons ago, he had won 50% of his headers in the PL. Scott Dann had won 40%, despite being over 3 inches taller.

I can't remember anyone saying Givet was too small to be a CB until he missed one header against Boro in Kean's last game.

Fabio Cannavaro was a 5 foot 9 CB and he won World Player of the Year.

He was also on drugs. Morris is the answer at left back. Offers balance and has excellent delivery, just needs to gain a little more confidence, but that will come.

You may well be right, but what I saw of him suggests that he's got a bigger role to play in midfield than at left back.

Givet has no neck and can't jump. His height isn't the main limiting factor but doesn't help.

Dann cant jump not only that he cant predict the flight of the ball.

Was he? I presume you mean more Lance Armstrong than Lemmy.

He absolutely was. There's footage floating around the internet of he and teammates blood doping in their hotel rooms. Well known stuff.

He definitely used to be and also had the engine for it, he isn't keen on being a full-back though.

You're going to have to explain that one to me as I'm guessing your assuming height was the issue. Crouch for example is 6 foot something and he's pants in the air. O'Connell just isn't that great in the air.

Yes I would sort Givet and play him, why. Because Hanley needs an experienced man alongside him to guide him and Givet has more experience and ability that Dann will ever have, he's a blood and guts player, exactly what Hanley should be being guided towards. He's also more along the lines of what we need in this league.

Why do you hate players who get picked from our academy, where Gary Bowyer knows more than most? Did the academy reject you as a kid or something?

Hanley doesn't need anyone to tell him how to be a blood and guts defender. He needs someone to teach him when to be a blood and guts defender and when not to be. As Givet suffers from the same deficiency i'm not sure he has it in his locker to help Hanley. Both will have matches when they win every header, challenge or block and everyone will wet themselves about how great they are. But more often than not they leave themselves and the rest of the back four really exposed because they don't know when to challenge and when to hold their position. I'm always a bit suspicious of center halves who consistently have to make last ditch blocks and tackles. They usually find themselves having to because they were out of position in the first place. This is the area Hanley needs to improve on. Still, at least he's no Scott Dann. He's crap in the first tackle and isn't clever enough to sweep up either. Lost cause that one.
